Ok so here's my situation:
I'm an 18 year old female & I'm living at home going to community college because it's all I can afford. I'm working part time but my hours are very inconsistent and I'm always looking for a more steady job but haven't found anything yet. I don't have my own car, I use my mom's extra car to get to school and work, which are both about 20-25 miles away.
Basically, my mom's psycho. I can't get along with her no matter how much I try. I try my best to just stay out of her way and do what she wants but she's so unhappy that she takes it out on my and is extremely emotionally abusive. For example, this week I worked 8 hour shifts every day on my feet in a very stressful sales job, and today's my day off. So this morning I got some much needed sleep and then went online to open a savings account. My mom came in my room and started telling me I needed to take all the clothes I don't wear to a consignment shop and get some money. I told her no, since I felt that I'm an adult and she shouldn't be able to tell me what to do with my days off, especially when the things she feels I should do don't affect her at all. Then she started telling me it's her house, I need to start acting like an adult, the real world doesn't work this way, and proceeded to ground me from the car (something she does every few days when she doesn't get her way). She started spouting off about how I need to take care of my stuff, and when I asked her what the only thing she could think of was to wash the tomatoes down the sink.
She's a very unhappy person and it drives her crazy whenever I have a day off and I'm not doing something. She's very controlling. Lately she's been threatening to kick me out (this is normal but I'm afraid she might be serious), saying she's moving to a smaller place and I'm not invited and I need to figure something out. This scares me because I hardly have any money and I literally can't afford to get another place, especially without a cosigner.
I want to keep the peace but don't know how. I try to stay out of her way but it's things like this that make it impossible. In my eyes she doesn't do much for me. Yes she lets me live here rent free, but she threatens to kick me out every day. She doesn't pay for my gas, food, school, or any other expenses.
Also, she bought me a laptop a while back and I've been paying her back monthly for it. I've paid for it almost in full, but she's threatening to take it away from me. Can she do that? Sorry about the rant, thank you to anyone who made it this far. :)

I could tell you how to be frugal like me.
How to save the money you have: Stay away from cigarettes & drugs! use cantines instead of buying waterbottles or sodas, get water instead of sodas at the movies & restaurants, try to eat at buffets instead of restaurants, shop for clothes & furniture at discount stores like Salvation Army, use spiral bulbs instead of normal bulbs, watch movies on putlocker or youtube instead of buying or renting them, when you buy a car buy a small efficient one instead of a truck or SUV, & if you ever build your own house order white roofing instead of the usual dark. Another somewhat frugal habit is using progressive grammar like me (&>and, 2>two, 1st>first, %>percent) when you're writing papers. If books used progressive grammar they'd be shorter & cheaper to make.
How to make some money: Collect cans & other scrap metals & take it up to your local metal recycling place that pays you. If you have any books or DVDs you don't want anymore sell them to Half Priced Books. If you have any unwanted gold or silver sell it to Cash4gold. When you pass by vending machines look in the coin slots for coins. In my experience 1/10 of them have coins.
If you're a kid & some of this doesn't apply to you, saving on electricity still saves your parents money. If you wanna be radical then follow power4patriots & make your house energy independent.
With that money, it would be best to spend it on stuff that will improve your life & stuff that will last such as spiral bulbs, new leather furniture, emergency supplies, & other luxuries & conviences. This world would be a much better place if everybody was frugal & I hope I am making this world better by answering questions like this. If you don't wanna pick me as best answer at least let me know if my advice has helped you & if you wanna become frugal too. It's up to us to make our future better by spreading frugality.

SALES: How to sell warranties effectively?

Please offer tips! Here's mine:
1. Going through benefits such as "general wear and tear", "FREE replacement"
2. Discounting warranties to make them attractive
3. Pretending to bundle and package deals (Camera, memory card, bags AND warranty) for additional price, which I usually discount furthermore.
4. Acting surprised and intentionally "double checking" prices for warranties. For example, "oh.. hang on, this is odd.. the warranty is only another $40 for two more years. Gee, usually it's about $89, let me double check this"
Should really stop discounting warranties but how should I go about it?
I use to get a flow going and would normally be able to convince customers to pay for them, but i've lost that flow.

Having to do ANY discounting makes you a terrible sales person.
What you really ought to emphasize is perception of value.
Let me explain. With a warranty, you're selling them reassurance. What you're setting out to underline is the "fear factor" of having to send their beloved computer/camera/electronics AWAY for repair - 1 week, 10 days, A LIFETIME! From the outset, determine the use of it - business or home use. How often is it used? How long? Does their entire family use it or are they the sole user? By doing this you're building up a clear picture of how VITAL this device is to their lifestyle. Is the customer a newbie, a technophobe or a confirmed "tech junkie"? You're not prying into their world, but rather trying to see things through their eyes and gain some trust. By asking these questions, the customer is thinking "this guy's on my side, he's interested in me." It also helps open up the conversation and makes it less "salesy".
You need to watch out for and overcome objections. Some of the most popular are:
1) I can fix it myself.
2) I know a guy who can repair it.
3) I'll just toss it away and buy another one.
4) This warranty is just too costly!
Your responses should be:
1) How confident are you in your skills? Are you sure you'd be willing, or even have the luxury, to take the time and effort in trying to figure it out and risk voiding the manufacturer warranty versus sending it off to a trained technician who is guaranteed to be able to fix it?
2) Does your friend have access to FREE parts and is he willing to follow you like a nomad in case you move away in the future?
3) Why even bother when the warranty is CHEAPER? It's very unlikely that it will be completely impossible to repair, and even if it is, this warranty will entitle you to a NEW one! Would you rather buy another one at full price or get it for the price of the warranty?
4) Compare the price of parts and labor versus the price of the warranty.
Example: Tell them: "You and I both know that when stuff goes wrong, it ALWAYS at the worst time and it's always expensive. With this warranty, it's guaranteed to get repaired or replaced. A hard drive of this size for a laptop would run about 100 bucks if you bought it off the shelf. Yes, that is cheaper than the warranty, but consider that we can also replace something like the motherboard or screen. Those things typically run you about 150- 200 bucks. That's about the same price as the warranty and we still haven't talked about labor yet! I think we know that's not free and even if it's a friend who WILL do it for free, how confident are you that it will be done in a reliable and timely way? Are they available to talk to 24/7 and how long would you be able to keep pulling favors? This warranty is guaranteed for X amount of years and is good for as many repairs as you need... etc."
Also, if you reach a point where the customer is thinking about it and needs a little push, reassure the customer by asking "How can you afford NOT to get it?". This turns the tide and makes the customer try to disprove what you've just said. Of course, it's much harder to do that since they probably aren't prepared to say anything much back. They probably came into the store EXPECTING you to try to sell them over on a specific item with an endless list of product features.
