Answer
Tanning comes & go, unless you do them everyday 24/7 for the rest of your life. But in the end the only thing you'll benefit is either moles, freckles, skin tags or discolorations from sunscreens, lotions, etc. and the more you do, the more they get larger, darker & bumpier. My nephew had a membership in a tanning bed salon for a year. After it expired, he stopped, now he's as white as before he began.

Tanning, is a result for 'damaged skin' and no products can reverse you from skin cancer or damaged skin, may prevent you from pre-mature aging, but that's part of the billion dollar beauty industry.
A new study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology has found that tanning bed exposure can be dangerous when tanners self-diagnose skin problems and use the radiation to treat skin eruptions. The study specifically found that a tanning bed user that used the radiation to treat a mild skin rash caused by an ibuprofen allergy developed a much more severe reaction called toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). When left untreated, TEN can be fatal.
Melanoma is the leading cause of death from skin disease. An estimated 76,259 new cases of skin cancer will be reported particularly among women in their 20's & 30's, and that's 6,020 more than 2011, people died from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute. Two million people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the US each year, according to the EPA's Sun-Wise Program. That's more than breast, colon, lung and prostate cancer cases combine! Now however, a recently published study suggests that those people with ginger hair and fair complexions face a much higher risk of developing dead skin cancer even if they are completely protected.

How do i get a dark tan fast?

Madison

I am very pale skinned and i burn very easily... Then my burn peels and im pale again. So how do i Get a natural tan fast? Or how would i apply bronzers to be even with no streaks and look natural?

Answer
Not possible, unless you go for 'fake tan', which btw according to the FDAâs good manufacturing processes and to the extent that these ingredients can be avoided, DHA may contain up to 3 parts per million of arsenic, 20 parts per million of lead, and 20 parts per million of iron.

To get super tan you will have to be tanning for @ least 60 years, George Hamilton & Tom Jones are two examples, who ARE super tan! Google them.

SELF-TANNERS: "I've had many patients who think these products somehow offer UV protection or that they give them a 'base tan' so they won't burn," says Dr. Hale, a NYC M.D., dermatologist and vice chair of the Skin Cancer Foundation. "'If I have skin cancer, you'll just remove it, and I'll be OK'. But the color that self-tanners create on your skin is completely artificial. But a lot of young women use these products so they don't look pale when they go to the beach to tan." 86% of women surveyed who use self-tanners reported they'd also baked in the sun, and 36% admitted they'd also used tanning beds (a leading cause of melanoma!) at least once in the past year. Australian study confirms that sunless tanning likely did not reduce the amount of UV exposure women get.

Answer
Hi there.

Whether you have a shoestring budget or have the luxury of a big spend, it is worth trying to suit the gift to the recipient. If its something she really needs, and best of all likes, it makes it really worth the trouble and the effort. The joy on her face is reward enough!

Letâs check out some options:

1. Jewellry:
. You could gift her a necklace, pendant, earrings, bangles, bracelet, or a ring.

2. Clothing :
Most women feel they never have enough outfits be it for work, social occasions or even the gym. If you gift her an outfit, moreover in a shade or style she doesnât already have, sheâll be over the moon.Do keep in mind a style that will suit her. . Try and have her size or her measurements readily available or at least ensure you donât buy something at a sale unless youâve checked that it can be exchanged.

3. Accessories :
Like never before, accessories are playing a major role in enhancing an outfit. Add a dash of glamour to a simple pair of denims and a white shirt with a really cool leather belt. Or add to her eveningwear accessory collection with a designer clutch purse. Or even a trendy but utilitarian bag to carry to the office. Make it a little roomy to store the million little things that women love to!

4. Watch:
From the delicate to the funky, watches are cool gifts for a lady. From leather straps, to bracelet ones, oval dials and gold embellishments, you know the kind she may be keen on so go ahead and treat her. Try and get one that has a warranty of at least one year.

5. Lingerie:
From the sexy to the practical, womenâs innerwear has unlimited options. Itâs a very popular gift between lovers but do get the size right. Itâs really not ideal to be holding up your hands and saying âthis muchâ or âthat bigâ when the salesgirl tries to help you out! Or even worse to run your eyes over her and say, âsheâs about your size!â Women love to receive lingerie from their partners. Thereâs something very sweet about the idea of those masculine hands going through delicate scraps of lace trying to unearth the right gift!

6. Beauty treatment:
If youâd like to pamper your woman, you could gift her a massage or a spa session or even a beauty package, which may include a facial, manicure and pedicure. Sheâll be thinking good thoughts of you while sheâs enjoying the soothing treatment.

7. Kitchen products:
If sheâs the domesticated kind and takes pride in her culinary skills gift her something that she will use and enjoy. Maybe a cookbook of Thai cuisine that sheâs never experimented with or an appliance sheâs wanted to buy. You may be lucky enough to be invited to a good Thai meal!

8. Knickknacks:
There are a variety of curios or ornaments to choose from if you know sheâs house proud or redecorating and you know sheâd really like something youâve spied. Scented candles, artfully packed potpourri, crystal, fluted glasses, or china the list is never ending.

Try this Example. I hope this works for u.

Good luck.

Rummy Sam

I'd like to buy my boyfriend a nice watch for Christmas. While I'm primarily looking for something he could use at the office (he works in a major personal wealth financial firm), it would be nice if the watch was a bit versatile as to be appropriate in casual situations as well. But this watch will be primarily used for work, where it's paramount that the watch be fashionable and appropriate. I'm looking to spend no more than $350.

I need to know:
1. Which types of watches are appropriate for businessmen, and would work well in casual settings too? (leather bands? metal bands? thick or thin? Chronograph? etc.)
2. Which brands are considered business appropriate? (Armani? CK? Hugo Boss? Lacoste? D&G?)

I'm a bit partial to some of these below, are any of these appropriate?

I need as detailed a response as possible as I know almost nothing about watches or finance culture. Thanks a bunch!

Answer
If your boyfriend is an I-Banker or works with clients at any time during his work day, I would recommend sticking to actual watchmakers. To explain, while these watches look nice and look good, they are what are called "fashion watches." These watches are only designed and then licensed by Armani, Burberry etc... (And fun fact.. FOSSIL actually makes most of the watches you listed... basically those Burberry, Armani, Michael Kors watches are fancy looking Fossil watches (see wiki link below).

Examples of luxury watchmakers are your Rolexes, Omegas, Tag Heuers, IWC, etc... and the list goes on... a Patek Philippe chronograph will set you back $150,000 to put it in perspective. But seriously, few of us have the means to even drop a $1000 for a watch. While I imagine some of your boyfriend's clients may be sporting car-priced timepieces on their wrists, there are definitely quality watches in the $350 range.

For the price range you gave, I would look into Citizen, Seiko and Tissot. These are excellent watchmakers and their watches are extremely reliable and well made. The Citizen Eco-Drive for instance is one of the best quartz watches on the market. When investing in a quality watch or product in general, a good thing to look for is a company that specializes in doing what they do. I would leave Hugo Boss to men's suiting rather than fine watches.

Stick with a stainless steel face and a brown strap. This is timeless and can be dressed up or down. Black leather strap watches (while black 'goes' with everythings) can look too dressy. Stick with a watch face between 38mm - 42mm. (see the Tissot link below)

Hope this helps!

Who willl the 76ers take with the second pick?

JH

hey,im a sixers fan i was just wondering who you think the sixers will take..im hoping evan turner but im fine with wesely johnson or demarcus cousins..and do you think theyll trade igoudala now?

Answer
All signs point to Evan Turner. Ed Stefanski pretty much implied that Turner is their man (unless the Wizards take Turner then it would clearly be John Wall). Wall and Turner are the two supersars in the draft that can do it all. Lucky sixers. They will probably trade iguodala just because of salary cap space. Since Turner is going to be the 2nd pick in the draft, he is going to be paid high, and the Sixers would have to pay him ou of luxury tax. The Sixers are rebuilding so trading Iggy, Dalembert, Brand, Kapono would be great. Then, next year they can go out and sign a big name free agent (That can actually play, not another Elton Brand). So now you would have a lineup of Holiday Turner Young (big name power foward) and Speights. The Sixers would then be contenders. So yes the get used to watching Evan Turner in Philly for many years to come, and look to see Iggy elsewhere.

Tanning , not so good to me?

LeeBj

I'm REALLY white and i dont like that , i wanna be tanned a little bit . But when i go to the beach , i spray my self with a deep tanning nivea product , and sit under the sun for 2 hours , i BURN ofcourse . But the problem is that when i get home i couldnt get my shirt off one time i had to cut it !! *because of the burns everywhere* . I get Red and after 5 days it all go away and i return white . Any soultions for me to get tanned??????? Plz!

Answer
There is no such thing as be tan a little bit.

Pale people don't tan, they burn. Visit the ladies @ the senior center, with pale skin, and see how much their skin is covered with: moles, freckles, skin tags, discolorations. Ask them how they got their skin that way.
Many beauty & hair products now have LABEL INGREDIENTS and DISCLAIMERS, specially makeup, they are required to put labels so consumers are aware to watch for chemicals: DBP, TITANIUM, MERCURY, HYDROQUINONE, or Toluene solvent, that causes cancer or harm us. In other words, less is MORE.

Answer
Summer, spring, fall or winter, ANYTIME you go tanning, that's more risks than ever. The sun & too much soaking in the tub or poll are skin's worst enemies.

If i was planning a road trip starting in Los Angeles and San Diego, driving up to Vegas for 4 or 5 nights, and then on to San Francisco, what towns would you recommend stopping over in...?
I've heard Santa Barbara is a nice place to see... Any other suggestions?

Answer
Well, first of all, I'd highly recommend starting in San Francisco, then working your way to LA, and then to Vegas. Or, alternately, start in Vegas, then hit LA and then SF. The easiest drive between Vegas and SF will take you through the LA area, so I'm not sure it makes sense to start there.

At any rate...

Santa Barbara is a beautiful city! I also highly recommend Morro Bay. Both are quaint coastal towns. If you can, you should stop at Hearst Castle in Cambria. It was William Randolph Hearst's home here on the coast, and it's entirely over-the-top luxury! I also enjoy visiting Solvang, which is a little Danish town on the coast...There's not a whole lot to do there, but it can be a great place to stop for a lunch break (some Danish cheese for a picnic is fun!). All of these are in the same general area, north of Los Angeles, on the coast Highway 1.

If you have time for another stop, Big Sur...The forest and coastline are gorgeous. There's a restaurant just south of Big Sur, called Nepenthe. On a sunny day, you can sit on their deck, which overhangs the cliff, with AMAZING views of the ocean, and just about nothing else. They also have a fireplace inside, so if the weather's not cooperating, you can still enjoy the view, and keep warm at the same time.

Naturally, Monterey and Carmel are also great stops. There's all kinds of tourist things to do - Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Depending on the time of year, it can also be fun to take a whale watching cruise on the bay. I also very much enjoy sitting at the 19th hole at any of the Pebble Beach golf courses (I'm not a golfer, so I'd rather just enjoy the view!).

Hope you have a great trip!

Golf Swing - Is it best to see video and learn ORRRR by posts/reviews/forum?

Rohan BS

Hi All
I will be honest, I recently developed passion for Golf.. very beginner golfer.. How many of you (both beginner and pro golfer) think that watching video is better than any other means of learning the game??? I strongly believe videos.. but i wanted to know your opinion... Help me

Thanks
RBS Desai

Answer
I believe a lesson (well, lessons...) with a pro is the best, but I also know that not everyone has that luxury. That's life. If that's the case, recording your swing and asking people at places like Y!A and golf forums to review it can help. Something is always better than nothing.

If you get the V1 software (available for desktop, iPhone and Android) or some other recording software, you can take that video and either upload it to V1's instructors (you're on a wait period if you use the free version... at least for the desktop) or to either "School of Golf" or "The Golf Fix", both airing on The Golf Channel. I can't guarantee you'll get a response from them, but it doesn't hurt to try.

I love you

I loved cartoons growing up as a kid. Unfortunately children nowadays do not have the same luxury as
my generation did, back in the days, to get quality
programming. I grew up in the 80's by the way.
My favorite cartoon was Thundercats and Transformers.
I still watch them online when I can. But as I said, now
kids get all this generic craps. Especially on the Noggin
Network. Are you kidding me. That stuff sucks. What
was your favorite cartoon growing up as a kid.............

Answer
I watched the cartoon Spiderman and Xmen cartoons RELIGIOUSLY as a little kid. I was born in 1988.

What percentage of childless women between 30-40 in America do you think are still single?

luxury watches for women with price image

Quatzequat

As in, what percent of all women this age ( who have not had any kids) are not (yet) married... Just want opinions, not looking for facts necessarily.

Answer
I usually do not answer questions based on opinions but I will make an exception. First, let tell some facts.

1. Marriage and parenthood are not necessities. They never were and never will be. They are luxuries. You pay the price one way or another. It is also the choice of the couples. Of course they never teach you this in school, in the streets, on TV, in you house of worship, and at the dinner table.

2. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being single and parentless for the rest of your life. It is still your choice and not the choice of family, culture, religion, and government. If that is what you want and makes you happy then be single and parentless.

3. It is wrong to ostracize people who are single and parentless. They simply did nothing wrong and are not breaking the law.

Now to answer your question:

I have seen a pattern of more and more women postponing marriage and parenthood. But this is from reading the newspapers and watching TV news. The reasons are they are not ready, want to have fun and be happy, and know that most males are not really worth their while. The percentage is I don not know because I have not seen any scientific poll on this.

What should a woman take into account financially when wanting to become a stay at home mother?

the Family

If a woman wants to leave work and stay home there are a lot of financial things to take into account. The woman may make a salary, but pay for eating out more, professional clothing, child care.....what else financially would a woman have to take into account when deciding on whether or not to stay home. Have you transitioned to staying home? Where do you find you actually save money because you are home? What were some of the hidden financial costs of working?

Answer
I recently went from working full-time outside of the home to staying home with our almost 3 y.o son. Like everything else in life, it has its good and bad points.

You will probably save money by eating at home and shopping smarter. Pre-SAHM, I'd never have bothered clipping coupons - who had the time? These behaviors extend to larger purchases as well (I shopped around for a great price on our new garage door opener, for example), so it can add up.

If you wore business or business casual clothes to work, then there may be some slight savings. My experience was that I actually had to buy jeans, tees and sneakers - I only owned a few things for the weekends, not enough for the daily grind.

Commuting costs may decrease, too. My husband now hops the train, and my son and I walk nearly everywhere. This had made a big savings, and if it means we don't replace our car for an extra year or two, then that's some major bucks.

I also think that thinking about your budget simply leads to spending less money. And now that there's time to make better decisions, most of us do. I don't feel deprived if I can't have that sweater, for example, because the 15 sweaters I already have are neatly laundered and stored in the right place. Less chaos, more calm - it can't be bought! :)

There are a few areas, though, that might surprise you.

* We still pay for childcare. Now that our son is nearly 3, he needs time with other kids - more than he was getting in a once-weekly playgroup or story time at the library. Part-time nursery school can be expensive, but it's worth it.

* Now that you have time to take your kid to lessons, you might want to enroll in Gymboree or swimming ... even with a smaller kid. Some things are free or cheap, but that's not always the case. (My hockey-obsessed 3 y.o. wants ice skating lessons. Cha-ching.)

* Some women have also mentioned to me that they finally have the time to take on those projects around the house - planting a garden, painting the study - but realize that they're breaking the budget taking them on. Likewise, if you're a recreational shopper, watch out! It's an easy trap, especially when you have the time and the mall has that great kids' playspace in the center.

* When your primary role is caregiver, you'll need to budget in some bucks for luxuries - a latte, a movie, a pedicure. Taking care of yourself is important, especially when you've just taken on a 24/7 kind of job.

* Lastly, and this is the big one, you'll need to figure out how to save for retirement now that you don't have an income. In addition to looking at your monthly budget to see where you can make cuts, examine your long-term financial position. If you're not saving for retirement at all, now's the time to start. And if you're saving through automatic payroll deduction, you'll need to figure out how to replace those dollars.

I like watches and would like to start buying expensive ones to collect. Will I be able to sell these in the future or are old luxury watches not in demand? I guess I just want to know if they will be worth anything later on. (Rolex and other name brands)

Answer
For collectors like myself, there is always demand. It is a fascinating and very addicting hobby. Do not limit yourself. In addition to high end brands, there are some inexpensive, custom, and limited edition pieces available.

There are some excellent resources and watch forums available online.

We are planning to come to Hoi An - Vietnam !

Answer
The beauty of one of Asiaâs least known nations, Vietnam is just now being discovered by travellers from all over the world. Spend your holidays in the heart of Vietnam and discover our luxury hotels & resort, which are located in the most authentic areas of Hoi An - Vietnam, ideal bases of exploration of these unspoiled and beautiful regions. Book your luxury hotel in Hoi An - Vietnam with Vinh Hung Hotels & Resort.

Listed below are the real stories written by the guests who have stayed at the Vinh Hung hotel groups. These stories are either received ourselves from the guests directly or collected from Vinh Hung partner websites:

âVinh Hung 1 is a good choice !â
We were so glad we were stayed here, and in the old town itself - this hotel must have one of the best locations. Yes, it was on the dark side, due to the old Chinese furniture and architectural style, but this was a novelty for us! We felt we experienced more of the atmosphere of the old town. The Vinh Hung restaurant across the road (where the included breakfast was served) was good. Staff were friendly.

Vinh Hung 1 Hotel - Oozes character and charm !
Vinh Hung 1 hotel particularly the Michael Caine room is great for a short stay in the old town of Hoi An. With the red lanterns outside and the chinese furnishings inside sets a romantic mood for couples. We didn't see any creepy crawlies in the room thank goodness... only each other! Staff are friendly and helpful. Don't expect 5 star luxury. Do expect lots of charm and character. Vinh Hung 1 fits in perfectly with old Hoi An town and is a stones throw away from many sights and restaurants.

Vinh Hung Resort - Beautiful setting, great location and amenities !
The Vinh Hung Resort was a beautifully presented resort on the edge of the river. We were concerned that the resort may have suffered flood damage in october, however could not see any sign of it as the grounds were well-manicured and the room was clean. We had a standard room on the first foor. The room was large with a well-appointed bathroom. There was a beautiful balcony at the front overlooking the pool. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the pool as it was quite cool, but a few people ventured in and made use of the pool bar. The breakfast buffet was excellent, however Hoi An has such wonderful pastries that we often went to Cargo Pattisserie instead. The resort was about a 10 minute leisurely walk to the main restaurants. The walk takes you through some wonderful neighbourhood streets. Across the road from the resort are several stalls set up hiring bikes and offering washing for $1/kg. We had our washing done here and I was impressed. The woman took me into her house to show me her modern washing machine and the line where she hangs your clothes. It only took her a little over 24hrs to do our load, and she was watching for us to return to the hotel when it was ready to be picked up.
Hoi An was by far my favourite place in Vietnam. It is so cute and has the best food in Vietnam. There are so many restaurants there, but I would recommend Cafe Des Amis, Morning Glory, Mango Rooms, and any place selling pastries. We also did the Red Bridge Cooking School, which is a must. Our tailor was B Lan - they were wonderful! Hoi An is definitely the place where you will do most of your shopping, so save room!
FoodFollower - Sydney, Australia - Apr 28, 2008

Vinh Hung Resort - Superb, approaching 5-star !
Fabulous place, best we got in our Vietnam tour. Not only the gardens and pool (nice Jacuzzi part and real pool bar) but mostly the DeLuxe riverside room. REALLY spacious, nice balcony, and lovely bathroom with a large double jacuzzi that really worked with nice warm water.
Breakfast buffet also lovely, with lots of choices including a made-to-order egg station. And 10 minute walk from town for a wide choice of restaurants, the hotel one is not that special for dinners (but has a nice free 'happy hour' tasting local foods daily from 5-6). Staff very friendly and helpful wherever possible.
So it's really only a few minor points holding them from reaching 5-star. Absolutely recommended!

Vinh Hung Resort - Peaceful!!!
This is a really nice hotel. Perfect location - just 5minutes walk from the center (don't panick nor get scared when you walk from the hotel - alot of little streets and little homes, little everything - all in all Hoi An people are very kind and curious). In the center of town you can do your visiting, shopping, eating. It's quite safe there, and cute. Arrived with the rain, left with the rain, so the streets were a bit flooded, but, that's ok...it couls ave been worse...Back to the Hotel now (! ), the room is very spacious and bungalow typed. Big pool, but didn't get to use it (with a group, not much time, and anyway it rained...). Hotel is located on the big Thu Bon river where the Hotel has a floating restaurant. They also have a restaurant oin the Hotel grounds -the night we arrived we had dinner in the Hotel restaurant - D LI CIOUS ! Big choice of Breakfast
when you return to your room in the afternoon, you can find a heart made out of petals and leaves, the mosquito screen is wrapped around the bed - very romantic.Bathroom is big - considering Vietnam, room is humongous.!

advantages and disadvantages of lowering your car?

Jamie F

hello, i was thinking of lowering my first car.
i am currently a p plater, with a 2003 mazda 6 luxury sport.
my step dad says that once you lower the car, the insurance wont be active on the car because you have modified it in a way.
also with putting some rims on the car.
i was thinking about some 19" rims, the car currently has 17' on it. would this affect my insurance too?
could you please help?
thanks

Answer
In terms of lowering the car...

Advantages...

1. It lowers the profile and wind resistance of the car.
2. It means the car is harder to turn over in a corner, but NOT better grip.
3. Some people think it looks cool.

Disadvantages...

1. The car has been designed by a professional who knows what they are doing, your mechanic will not have done the same sums that the car manufacturer has in order to determine how this will affect your vehicle.
2. The ride becomes harder, as you have less travel in the suspension it has to be harder to support the same weight.
3. It costs money, stupid money and your insurance will go up.
4. If you are in an accident then people will assume that it is the fault of the guy with a modified car.
5. It lowers the value of your car. In part because people will know it has been driven by someone who sees themselves as a racer. Even if I wanted a modified car, I would not buy one that it modified but just modify it myself. That way I would know it has been done properly.
6. Every time you go over a speed bump, you will have to be careful (also hitting curbs).
7. Your warranty will be invalidated (if you have one).
8. If you lower it by clamping down the springs all you have done is take travel out, if you do it with new springs then you will spend a lot on it.
9. Cops will pull you over ALL the time.

In terms of alloys...

Alloys are a modification and no matter what people say you do need to notify your insurance as it does affect the performance and reliability of the car. The lighter a wheel is, the better it grips the road because the amount of time that it is in contact with the road is affected by the ratio of sprung to unsprung weight. Also if the wheel is wider it will have more grip, this is not a good thing as fast starts that were powerful enough to damage the clutch would have spun the power away in a wheel spin, but if it grips then the clutch will suffer the brunt. Also wider wheels giving more grip mean that the calculations that the manufacturer has done to work out whether the car will roll are now inaccurate. With the correct wheels you should not roll with wide wheels you cannot know.

You are likely to spend a lot of money on any modifications worth doing, so much in fact that you are better off just getting a better car (especially factoring in safety and resale values). Women prefer men who drive unmodified cars and in all fairness if you want to be a fast driver then you should just spend the money on track time and tyres. There is nothing better than whooping some kid in a modified BMW with a diesel golf. Speed comes down to the competence of the driver much more than people give it credit for, if you invest in yourself, not in your car then you will always have that skill no matter what you are driving. I have watched a skoda fabia with four old men overtake a race spec porsche 911 (with its driver head to toe in race suit and helmet) at the Nurburgring because the skoda drivers were better. It is also great when you set a good lap time and people ask you what have you done to modify that car, and you say nothing, it was all me.

EDIT: You even have to tell the insurance company if you change your stereo, and that has no effect on performance.

Were the Rolex "President" and "Super President" models originally produced by the company?

Luis

If yes, are they still in production?

Answer
The primary bracelets for the Rolex Oyster line are named Jubilee, Oyster and the President. Rolex "dressy" watches are from their Cellini line. The third brand in the Rolex empire is the less expensive, but high quality, Tudor brand. It was started by Rolex founder, Hans Wilsdorf, in 1946. While still sold in Europe and the Far East, the Tudor line was discontinued in the United States as of 2004.
Rolex is the largest manufacturer of Swiss made certified chronometers. In 2005 more than half the annual production of COSC certified watches were Rolex.

Rolex President
The Rolex Day-Date watch is also known in America as the 'President' watch. The chairman of Rolex presented President Eisenhower with an 18kt Datejust watch, one of the companyâs most exclusive, in 1948 to celebrate the victory over the Nazis in World War II.

Rolex
Arguably the most recognized name in luxury watches, Rolex was originally called Wilsdorf & Davis. It was founded by a German national in 1908. A perfectionist, Hans Wilsdorf worked hard to improve watch standards and prove that high quality products could be produced outside Switzerland (though he received his movements from a small Swiss company

Rolex SA has three watch lines: Oyster Perpetual, Professional and Cellini. Among modern Rolex Oyster watch models here are a few from there vast watch range
â¢Milgauss
â¢GMT Master II
â¢Submariner
â¢Sea Dweller
â¢Daytona Cosmograph
â¢Yacht-Master

The primary bracelets for the Rolex Oyster line are named Jubilee, Oyster and the President. Rolex "dressy" watches are from their Cellini line. The third brand in the Rolex empire is the less expensive, but high quality, Tudor brand. It was started by Rolex founder, Hans Wilsdorf, in 1946. While still sold in Europe and the Far East, the Tudor line was discontinued in the United States as of 2004.

The President and Super-President style Rolex was specifically designed for the addition of the âDayâ to âDay-Date.â It has been worn by World Leaders and other high-powered dignitaries. Because of its size, raw materials and sheer handsomeness, the Presidential sets you far apart from even those also wearing the Rolex name.

Originally the Rolex came either with no âDateâ or simply the numeric âDate,â known as the âDateJustâ timepiece. It was first released in 1956 and branded the âDay-Date.â The Presidential was only produced one year before the model was changed to add waterproofing. It earned the nickname of the âPresidentâ when Rolex presented one to former U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, while he was president. Thus it became important for men of high style and importance to have this timepiece in their collection.

The fundamental of customizing your Rolex watch still exists with the Menâs and Ladiesâ President. It can be crafted in 18 Karat Yellow or White Gold and in Platinum. You can add stunning diamonds to your lugs, which gives the timepiece a very distinct and pointed look. You also have the choice of altering your bezel with a variety available to select from, ranging from high polished to fluted to diamond and others.

It is the most expensive line of Rolex watches and thus is viewed as the most prestigious. It has been worn by former U.S. Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon and Ford. The Presidential has the elevated quality for those that wish to express their power and level of success. Those around you will see your assertiveness without you have to say nary a word simply by viewing the exquisite craftsmanship that lays on your arm.

whats the difference between a cheap watch and an expensive brand ie rolex, omega etc.?

high end luxury watches brands
on High End Watches - Luxury Watches R Us
high end luxury watches brands image

yep

I have always loved buying watches but all my life i have gone with less expensive brands (quartz) I would just like to know what I am buying when I buy a more expensive brand such as omega, rolex, etc. The specs are sometimes identical. why would someone spend so much money?

Answer
Captain Obvious is correct about a few things, but not all.

For the most part, there isn't much of a difference (functionally) between a $50 quartz watch and a $2,000 quartz watch. Quite obviously, there will be a better quality product -- both in terms of aesthetics and finish as well as in terms of reliability and quality of timekeeping. Otherwise, both tell time fairly well.

However, the differences start showing when you are looking at mechanical watches that do not use Quartz, such as Automatics. These watches are mechanical marvels that can do some pretty darn interesting and complicated things. The advantage of an Automatic over a Quartz, of course, is that the good ones are built to last and you can pass it on to your next generation.

In that regard, a lot of the watches may seem the same (i.e. they tell time - duh). However, remember that with luxury watches, you are paying for it as a piece of expensive jewelry and art. The fact that it tells time is secondary.

Therefore, the difference therefore comes in *how* a watch tells time -- i.e. what mechanism (or movement) does it use, how well does it work, what else can it do, how well was it made, who made it, where was it made, what materials were used etc. In that regard, there is a world of difference in the tiers.

You've beginner luxury brands -- Raymond Weil, Longines, Stowa etc. Great watches, very reliable and use standard "movements" with excellent quality construction -- but nothing special. Not particularly expensive (less than $2,000 usually).

Then you have the mid tier brands. Within the mid tier brands, you've the lower mid tier and the higher mid tier brands.

In the lower mid tier, you have Omega, Rolex, Breitling, IWC etc -- around $2,000 - $10,000. About the same as the beginner (mostly), but slightly better quality and finish, and better brand name. In the higher mid tier brands, you get brands like Girard Perregaux, Breguet, and even IWC. Much better quality -- and you start getting into "custom" movements and "complications" that do some really amazing and cool mechanical things, and they are usually between $10,000 - $50,000. Their finish and quality tends to be rather outstanding, and they are not as commonly found.

Both the beginner and mid-tier brands are pretty reliable, and adhere to COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) standards of timekeeping accuracy, even when they don't have to. More than likely, a cheap $50 watch -- or even some of the "branded" $1,000 watch (think Armani or Guess watches) -- will fail at these standards.

Finally, then you get into the truly higher end brands -- Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Audemar Piguet, A. Lange & Söhne, etc. These guys make mechanical marvels, and they maintain the market by producing only a handful of truly outstanding pieces that pretty much take several top notch master watchmakers years to make their timepieces. These can go into the millions. And remember -- in this category, it's less about it being a watch and more about prestige, art, and the fact that you own one of a kind mechanical marvel.

At the end of the day, you must remember that once you leave the functional realm, watches become status symbols, and ergo Veblen goods (i.e. people buy them *because* they are expensive and elitist). You end up with "snob effect", where people want to use exclusive products, and price becomes associated with quality. Unfortunately, the side effect is the "bandwagon effect", where everyone wants to use exclusive products, and the demand for high-priced goods goes up. Consequently, the price of the already high-priced goods goes up.

If it helps, you should check out manufacturers like Parnis [1] or Sea Gull [2] -- Chinese watchmakers that make rather excellent watches comparable to lower end Swiss watch makers at a much lower price point.

Either way, watches are rather interesting, and you'd be amazed at just what's out there. Enjoy!

And here are some examples of "grand complications" --

All were GT cars, with the first proving a successful launch for the Mazda Wankel engine and acting as a halo vehicle for the new Mazda brand. Later Cosmos competed in the ultra-high luxury performance market in Japan with the final JC Cosmo (1990-1995) sold as the Eunos Cosmo - Eunos was a luxury sales channel similar to Toyota's Lexus brand.

Accompanying a six-part series on BBC2, "Adam's Guide to the Cosmos" takes us on a mind-bending journey to the edge of the Universe and the frontier of our understanding of our mysterious Cosmos

About COSMOS
There have been four generations of Mazda automobiles which went by the name of Cosmo, although they are not all particularly related.

Gracie Sun

I just started indoor tanning recently, standup booth. And I have I guess average but kind of sensitive skin. I burn kind of easily but I'm not like Snow White or anything. I just don't tan to easily. Anyway, I was wondering what kind of tanning lotion would be best for my skin and for the best overall tan and quickest effects. I tan at my gym so there's not like tanning consultants to ask. Also I don't wanna hear about how bad it is for you so save your energy. Thanks!

Answer

Little white dots on skin after indoor tanning?

Kaytee

I'm 19 and have never used a tanning bed. I've been tanning for about a week and I have VERY pale skin. I noticed little white dots on my shoulders and a small spot on my back today. Should I be worried?

Answer
The minute you get in the tanning bed, that's 1 minute too long to get melanoma. Yes, you should be worried.

What "English" speaking island is worth taking a vacation on?

Immagrant

I am looking for any "facts" that are "worth while" to share (WITH ME) of the following islands (or others)?
Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Dominica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Belize, Grenada.

Answer
Of the islands listed here's some quick facts:
1. St. Lucia: is tourist-oriented. Tourist visits tend to be more noticeable during the dry season (January to April). St Lucia tends to be popular due to its tropical weather and scenery and its large number of beaches and resorts. Many people visit as part of a cruise
2. St. Vincent and the Grenadines: the Grenadines have become a favorite of the up-market yachting crowd. Tourism is on the increase and will likely continue. New cruise ship and ferry berths have been introduced thus increasing the number of passenger arrivals.
3. Barbados: Other folks have been detailed in their responses, not much more to add. Very tourist oriented, Lots of resorts and beaches to choose from.
4. Dominica: nicknamed the "Nature Isle of the Caribbean" for its seemingly unspoiled natural beauty. he island features lush mountainous rain forests, home of many very rare plant, animal, and bird species. English is the official language of Dominica BUT a French-based creole dialect, is spoken by many people on the island, especially from the older generation.
5. Monsserrat: Unless you like volcanoes, there's not much to do on this island. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montserrat
6. St. Kitts and Nevis: formerly very tourism dependent, with many small but upmarket hotels and guesthouses in former plantation houses. Cruise ships regularly stop at both islands.
7. Belize: not a Caribbean island. It is the only country in Central America with English as the official language. A combination of natural factorsâclimate, the Belize Barrier Reef, 127 offshore Cayes (islands), excellent fishing, safe waters for boating, scuba diving, and snorkeling, numerous rivers for rafting, and kayaking, various jungle and wildlife reserves of fauna and flora, for hiking, bird watching, and helicopter touring, as well as many Maya ruinsâsupport the thriving tourism and ecotourism industry.
8. Grenada: Conventional beach and water-sports tourism is largely focused in the southwest region around St Georges, the airport and the coastal strip; however, ecotourism is growing in significance. Accomodations range from luxury to small cottage resorts.

hope I helped a little bit.

Where is the best city to live in Texas?

Brock

I am thinking of moving there and was wondering which city I should look at.

Answer
San Antonio, TX

Enjoy your stay, then participate in our survey again. Go to southernliving.com/ readerschoice before 11:59 p.m. CT September 17, 2007, and name your favorite cities, restaurants, inns, and more. Who knows? You may win a luxury golf and spa weekend.

1. San Antonio: Sip and Sample a City
What a great city to taste! Cool a summer day with the Menger Hotel's famous mango ice cream. Sip a Prickly Pear Margarita at Boudro's, a River Walk eatery. Other don't-miss dining spots here include Biga on the Banks, The Lodge Restaurant of Castle Hills, and a local favorite, Los Barrios. On Sunday indulge in brunch at Las Canarias in the Omni La Mansión del Rio. Before leaving town, experience the noon Mariachi Mass at San Jose Mission. Visit www.sanantoniocvb.com, and watch for our story about San Antonio in the upcoming October issue of Southern Living.

2. Austin: A Texas Crossroads and More
One intersection symbolizes this city's lifestyle. At West Sixth and Lamar Boulevard, you'll find Waterloo Records (featuring the latest in Texas music), BookPeople (author signings galore), and Whole Foods Market (store and headquarters). Elsewhere, South Congress Avenue boasts fun shops such as Uncommon Objects and Vivid. Party at Continental Club, sleep in 50s chic at the restored Austin Motel, and enjoy breakfast pancakes at Magnolia Cafe South. Visit www.austintexas.org.

3. Houston: Big City, Cozy Getaway
Houston? Cozy? It certainly feels that way at several boutique hotels. Hotel Indigo Houston at The Galleria changes its artwork, music, and flowers to match the season. Hotel ICON renovated the classic 1911 First Union National Bank Building. Sports fans love the Inn at the Ballpark, a block from Minute Maid Park. At hip, contemporary Hotel Derek, the staff leaves Texas-made candies on your pillow. The more expansive but secluded Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa rises as an urban woodland retreat. Visit www.visithoustontexas.com.

4. Dallas: Wonders of West Village
Visitors and residents mingle outdoors in this neighborhood, between Blackburn Street and McKinney and Cole and Lemmon Avenues. You'll love the sidewalk dining at Tom Tom Asian Grill (try the blackberry mojitos) and the Texas-size sweet treats at Petit Fours, a great place for afternoon tea. For a Western wardrobe, try on boots and hats at Cowboy Cool. Visit www.westvil.com.

5. Fort Worth: Sundance, Moon Glow
Fun in Fort Worth goes on all day into late night. In downtown's Sundance Square, you can shop and dine and then see the stars at Bass Performance Hall. August's bill features Kenny Rankin and Tony Bennett. If Bass Hall is too tame, get rowdy at Billy Bob's Texas, the world's largest honky-tonk down in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. While in the area, treat yourself at Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, where chef/owner Tim Love cooks in his cowboy hat. Save an afternoon for the museums in the Fort Worth Cultural District. Note: the Amon Carter Museum is closed through summer for renovations. Visit www.fortworth.com.

Ladies and gentlemen: does this prove that the school system is broken?

most popular luxury ladies watches
on FASHION Trends & Styles The Argument For Rolex Watches
most popular luxury ladies watches image

Seeker Of

I need opinions and facts from guys and girls. Is the way the school system have people learn, broken?

Example. I am a professional working with a particular computer program. I'm one of the top guys in the feild with it. I recently had the luxury of watching students learn the same program at a college.

Here's the problem. the teachers at the school test students 90% on mulitple choice tests on the program. So instead of hands on learning, they have to memorize where commands are, and what definitions of the commands are, etc. Most of the students feel that the quizzes and tests teach them nothing. Many feel they get very little out of the class. Many feel they should be more hands on with learing the tools of the program.

Here's whats interesting. If I had to take that class, I would most likely fail every single test because I don't know what the commands are off the top of my head, and I don't know much about the words and definitions discribing the commands. But, give me an assignement to do in the programs and I will use all of those commands perfectly, I will know where they are located and what each one is for. I've been using the program for years.

The belief in school teaching is, ' if they pass the test, they then have the knowledge and are smart for it. If the fail the tests, that means they learned nothing'. But in actuality, many poeple who past the tests can't really use the programs professionally. And I would fail the test, but I'm a pro at using the program.

Doesn't that mean that if a school only puts importance on written tests rather than hands on actualy work, that they're system of learning is broken?

Thoughts from both guys and girls perspectives.
wendy g - Yeah it just bothers me that this kind of thing is accpetable at all. If you feel this doesn't prove that the school system is broken, I think it at the very least, proves that this teaching style is broken and does't work since passing or failing those tests don't really aid in truly learning anything.

Answer
Is it broken? Who's to say it ever worked--look at the sh*t we're in. The best and the brightest put us here. Education means d*ck in America--it's all about 1) having the balls and pulling the trigger, and 2) knowing how to adjust the accounting during the 90% of the time your strategy fails.

College is nothing more than big business now, at least in America. Some of it (state schools) may even be non-profit, but that doesn't mean the countless people running those places aren't profiting. The government wants you to go to college for 3 primary reasons 1) the government doesn't have enough room on its payroll to support everyone, 2) the private educational institutions (and their lobbyists) love the marginal revenue that comes from the annual plethora of first year dropouts (i.e. those hopeless, brainless souls convinced by popular media that college is a necessity in life), and 3) college grads are good for the economy b/c they will a) earn more over their lifetimes and thus spend just as much or even more with good credit and b) won't likely become a burden on the government via socialized services or crime.

Bottomline, higher education is a product and there's plenty of competition. You get what you pay for, and if you're dissatisfied, go somewhere else--I'm sure your money's good there.
