I'm doing a bit of ad-hoc research, and was wondering what the most popular luxury watch brands in different countries were.

I read a report that said Rolex and Tag Heuer were at the top for the USA.

Does anyone know what the top 5 are in places like Britain, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia etc?

Thanks

Answer
Omega
Citizen
Seiko
Breitling
Tag Heuer
Cartier
Invicta
Kenneth Cole
Patek Philippe
Guess
Bulova

Why is everything so expensive in a poor country.?

Q. I live in Slovenia. I know it isn't really a "poor" country, but since I grew up in the USA it feels pretty "poor" to me. People earn lots less and watch every penny. It is a nation of thrifty people. Anyways, stuff here costs twice as much as in the USA. I am not talking about luxury items, I am talking about bread, milk, beans etc... The luxury items usually cost 3 times as much. Why is everything so expensive here? What are the economics at work?
I think it is all the importing possibly
I have lived in Slovenia for 3 years
This comment from Lucille it amazing

"They said they'd raise the salaries, but you know how "well and quick" politicians work.

I love this Slovenian idea of "THEY". Haha, who the heck is "THEY"? Slovenians think politicians control salaries!!! Like Slovenia still has socialism. Weird.
TO VICTOR--

That is a lot of information. I have heard all of it before. What you said is essentially a clever way of saying "Slovenia is doing fairly well considering...." However, Slovenia, as a functioning country just squeaks by. Basically, in my opinion, the country is still trying to operate at a socialist country. In a capitalist economy that means it can't function. Internationally speaking, Slovenia is doing great within the EU but only because 40 years of socialism taught Slovenians (the entire government sector and all the non-profits) how to be masters at deception. And what about corruption? You speak of the GDP but where does the money really go. Corruption is rampant. Slovenia is so small and people are lining their pockets with millions in bribes daily--another result of the move from socialism to capitalism. The previous system had bribery and corruption over pennies, but now there is a LOT of money to steal. Does the GDP really tell us about the economy?

Answer
Slovenia is not a poor country by comparison with others joining the European Union. It has a high-income economy with the highest GDP per capita of the new member states in the EU, at $29,521 in 2008. That's over 90% of the EU average. In 2009, it had a GDP per capita of about 28,000 International Dollars, which is about the same level as New Zealand. It is higher than that of Portugal and almost the same as that of Israel. Slovenia benefits from a well-educated work force, and it now has effective political and economic institutions.

The major drawback to Slovenian development is its size and location. It is about the same size as the two counties of Devon and Cornwall in England and the same population of about 2 million. But it has almost no manufacturing sector so its wealth must be based on agriculture, tourism and financial services. These are still being developed. The consequence is that almost everything necessary for effective production in every industry must be imported, as must a great proportion of its "modern" foodstuffs and clothing. That explains the high cost of goods and some services. They must be imported and carry transport costs as well as duties.

A high proportion of the economy remains in state hands. About 60 per cent of the working population is on the national or local government payroll. Foreign direct investment in Slovenia is one of the lowest in the EU: it is not seen as an attractive destination for foreign funds. Taxes are relatively high and the labour market is seen by western business as being inflexible: still working with communist methods and attitudes. I've heard it said seriously, "I always had a decent standard of living, free education for my children, free health care, a good pension - whether I contributed or not. Why should that stop?"

Slovenian industries are losing sales to China, India, and Russia. Unemployment used to be relatively low, but it rose to nearly 10% in 2010

In some senses, Slovenia is too small to survive in a competitive Europe unless the new democratic government can arrange a serious change of national productive profile. In the meantime, the country receives substantial EU support and subsidy funding.

Edit in response to Asker's comment:
The total Official Development Assistance received by Slovenia is about â¬50 million per year, which amounts to about 15 per cent of gross national income. Although Slovenia conforms to the Maastricht Treaty on audit requirements, there is a "technical problem" in finding out how these funds are spent. I think that means that there is official government obfuscation of various public accounts. There is a suspicion in EU circles that some of the funds find their way into private accounts but no way to certify the situation. The same difficulty exists with the official audit in Estonia, Poland and Romania. It is one of the legacy problems from communism, in which official secrecy was maintained by politicians and civil servants.

OK?

Have Two Questions Concerning a very old Steamer Trunk with Initials?

djohnsonte

I have this questions listed in cameras for that part of the help I need. This trunk had all types of hidden treasures inside it. I bought it at auction unopened and I found an expensive silk rug wrapped in a wax type paper, some coins from France, and sheets and linens with the Initials DK. B. embroidered very ornately with a crest. Those sheets etc had rotted but the silk threads were there and readable. But worth zip due to rot.
The Steamer Trunk is very large, very large. It was owned by someone with the initials L.V. that he had stamped on the two brass handles and under the lock. So, either L.V. was related to DK. B. or DK. B had borrowed or rented the trunk. I found out that steamer trunks were rented or leased as well as sold back then and since no one picked this one up it may have been purchased from L.V. by DK. B. ? We just don't have a clue. Next, the coins were all French and all had the same date 1910 and were French, gold, silver, 12 of each. And the silk knotted rug.
Getting the trunk down to remove all of our Junk stored inside we dropped the trunk and here a crack sound. When it was emptied and opened we found a Secret compartment that had been nailed to the bottom of the Steamer. We looked for a trick lever or opening but there were none so someone fetched me a pry bar and a special spanner to pry open very gently the compartment and remove some tiny nails and nuts. Inside were two very very old cameras. Both wrapped in the same wax paper, in like new condition. One was black in a leather black case and strap all in great shape. But, oddly, the other was in a dark green case and it was dark green. I managed to learn how to open the cameras and placed each inside a large dark bag and I found odd sized film in the green one.

Anyone know of a trunk company initial L.V. or someone long ago with initial DK. B. with some sort of crest? The crest was also rotted and a mess and not clear enough to make anything more out. Anyone know of a special company to develop this film? Somewhere close in the Dallas Fort Worth Area? It could be junk or could be special since they were hidden? The sooner we get the film looked at by a true pro and not something like a photoshop, we can possibly find out who DK. B. was or is and who was or is L.V. who owned this trunk. And, it could be just junk for all we know. But, we expect it to be something really interesting due to the first items found hidden inside the trunk under the lining and so very old. If it helps the rug dated back 300-400 year agoago and the coins were 1910 each ooneand there were 12 of each both types of coins were the same values.
Thanks for any help you might provide on this continuing mystery.

You might try this site: http://www.thepirateslair.com/antique-steamer-trunks-chests.html
It says this about "trunk company initial L.V."--it could stand for LOUIS VUITTON . Their phone number is 540-659-6209, in Stafford, VA .
Their street address is:

Louis Vuitton Malletier â commonly referred to as Louis Vuitton, or shortened to LV â is a French fashion house founded in 1854. The label is well known for its LV monogram, which is featured on most products, ranging from luxury trunks and leather goods to ready-to-wear, shoes, watches, jewellery, accessories, sunglasses, and books. [A picture of the logo is to the right of the article.]
Napoleon III of France appointed Vuitton as Malletier (a "Malletier" is, in French, literally a Trunk-Maker) to his wife, Empress Eugénie de Montijo. Through his experience with French royalty, he developed advanced knowledge of what made a good traveling case. It was then that he began to design his own luggage, setting the foundations for LV Co. (article continues from there).

Shows these DATE CODES SEEN ON RE-LINED ITEMS:

It could also refer to its store in Copenhagen. Denmark is abbreviated as DK.
[What the B would stand for, I have no clue. Hope this helps a little.]

Okay, so I'm 15, and a guy. I'm not gay, I just like to shop a lot. I have total about 46 shirts, and 21 pairs of pants (this includes jeans, pants, khaki's, etc). I also can't help myself when it comes to brands. I have brands such as Ralph Lauren, Guess, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Brooks Brothers, JoS. A. Bank, and more. But I don't pay full price for all these. I purchase some of the more expensive clothing such as Gucci and Ralph Lauren used on eBay. The good thing about this is that most kids in my school don't have access or a paren't who knows how to use eBay, so i'm at an advantage when it comes to this. I've saved hundreds of dollars! I only paid $60 for the Gucci shirt! That shirt new was a $400 shirt!. And by some miracle, I have gotten all my Ralph Lauren shirts for around $20-$30 used! My JoS. A. Bank I purchased at Goodwill for $2.99, along with my Calvin Klein, my L.L. Bean, and my Brooks Brothers. The JoS. A. Bank shirt I got was new $119.99! The Calvin Klein new was about $50, and my Calvin Klein Jacket new was about $100! My brooks brothers shirt new was $118.50 when I looked on their website, and the Abercrombie & Fitch shirts I have I paid about $3 a piece for used when new they were $60-$70! Now I also have automatic watches, Seiko watches, etc... I paid about $30 for my used Seiko watch (new was a $250 watch), and bought my Automatic watch on eBay for $30, but not sure how much it was new. BUT I LOVE IT! Now for my shoes, I have 9 pairs, Nike Elite's (which are one of the best shoes Nike has released, costing between $250-$300, which I got on eBay for $50 used! I am even looking at a pair of used Gucci shoes on eBay at the moment.

So even though I am wearing some of the best brands in the school (Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Brooks Brothers, JoS. A. Bank, Guess, etc) I have paid about the same as all the other kids in my school. About 99% of the kids in my school wear Aeropostale, and American Eagle. I don't tell them I got all my shirts off eBay, because that wouldn't be smart. I haven't spent a dime more than the other kids at school for clothing... but have the best brands in the school. Some of the brands I wear have even found themselves onto the list of top 10 most expensive brands in the world, such as Gucci, and Guess.

So now to get to the point.... even though I am thrifty when it comes to buying my name and luxury brands, my parent's still fear I have a spending problem. I don't think so... I mean, who wouldn't want brands such as Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Brooks Brothers, and more? Plus, for the cost of very cheap brands, I have some of the best brands you can find according to an article I read online. I looked at all my clothing the other day, and added together what I would have spent if I purchased hem new. I would have spent over $5,000 on everything if they were new. But do you know what I spent? Not even 1/5 of that! About $600 total. So yes, I do spend a little more than most people, but for the brands I have, it could have been a lot more.

My mothers birthday was about 4 months ago, and to show her how nice luxury things were since she doesn't have any, I saved for about a year (yes I know I don't have a steady income) to buy her two Gucci watches, which I spent $100 for the pair on. Mind you, these watches new were about $1,000. One model was outdated, but there's one they still sell today. I thought it would show here how nice these things are... but she hasn't even worn them once! I also got my dad a Ralph Lauren Dress shirt (new was about $150), and he's never worn it. My dad sticks to his $5 shirts from Walmart, and my mom sticks to her $12 watches from Walmart.

So back onto the subject, do you think I have a spending problem?
@ Soem Gay guy: Your defiance is not acceptable to me. I view that as very low-class, unprofessional, and immature. Do you really wan't me to have that opinion of you? So I suggest you either edit, or remove your answer... before I have to.

You have to be gay if you typed a freaking essay to ask the internet if you spend too much money on clothes.

1. One of the most luxurious things you can treat yourself to, is a massage. How would you like to win a $150 gift certificate to Bliss Spa? Bliss Spa features a clever menu of super-effective services and a fun, 'no-attitude' atmosphere. There are eight bliss spas worldwide, so you can be massaged across the globe. And you can also win their famous Bliss Spa Body Butter. That's butter for your body, not your toast.

2. Next, one of my favorite jewelry designers is called Me & Ro. All of their jewelry is handmade, and today, you can win their $380 10k gold "compassion" slate pendant, set with a diamond. The necklace is a reminder to show kindness and compassion to everyone, especially during the holidays.

3. Next, you're walking down the street all nice and relaxed from your massage...wearing your new necklace...and all of the sudden, the sun is in your eyes, and you're thinkin' "I wish I had a pair of designer sunglasses right now." Well, how would you like to win a pair of Calvin Klein sunglasses? Elegant yet bold, the Calvin Klein Sunwear Collection combines luxurious materials with precise styling and elevated attention to detail.

4. Finally, nothing says luxury like a designer handbag. Am I right ladies? If you're lucky enough, you just might win a Gucci! The Gucci 'New Britt' medium hobo bag comes in beige and ebony with white leather trim and light gold hardware. There's an inside pocket zip, two pockets for your cell phone and PDA, and it comes with the classic "GG" logo.

And Head and Shoulders gave them a gift basket with their products and towels.

Hope this was helpful ~~~~
Merry Christmas !

LADIES-- Do you wear your engagement ring all the time?

btany.

I asked this one other time, and got some smart answers, so. try it again shall we?

I'm a nurse, and I opt not to wear my engagement ring to work just because I don't want my ring to get scratched or something to happen to it. I do wear it out on the weekends, or anytime I'm not working and not stuck at home. My friends from work think I'm insane. I ran into one of them at the grocery store and they automatically noticed I wasn't wearing my engagement ring. I love my ring and my husband, but white gold shows scratches easily... and if I'm only going to be working or doing laundry or grocery shopping, I don't think it's imperative that I wear it. I do wear it out anytime we're going out, like on a date or something of that nature. I don't wear it in the shower, when I'm cooking or cleaning or working...

I guess my friends think I don't love my husband enough to wear the diamond he gave me all the time, which isn't true. I think I'm being practical about the situation.

What about you? Do you wear yours all the time?
I wear my wedding band all the time. Where I work, I didn't have the option to really wear my engagement ring, the prongs are too sharp and poke holes in my gloves.

I wear my wedding band and a watch. No other jewelry is allowed.

Answer
I'm a nurse, and my sister's a nurse. Neither of us wear or engagement rings around all the time. I especially don't wear mine to work. I don't know about you, but we've constantly got to either wash or hands or use alcohol based disinfectants like Purell. That can really damage jewelry! Plus raised rings like an engagement ring can really get in the way of things. And putting on gloves- forget about it! You can poke a hole in gloves with an engagement ring, which could be a health risk. I just wear my wedding ring to work. It's simple, lays flat, and I don't have to worry as much about it getting scratched, etc. No one really comments on it, and I don't think it's all that unusual. Most of the nurses I work with just wear their wedding rings. Other times, of course, when I'm at home, or out, or doing counseling, I wear my engagement ring. But that's because I like it and because it's pretty. I don't really see what the big deal is in not wearing it. You don't need an engagement ring to show you're engaged. The wedding ring says it all.

P.S. You're allowed a watch? We don't get that luxury. Too many idiots not washing properly underneath and around the watch.

Which brands and types of male watches are appropriate for business?

Rummy Sam

I'd like to buy my boyfriend a nice watch for Christmas. While I'm primarily looking for something he could use at the office (he works in a major personal wealth financial firm), it would be nice if the watch was a bit versatile as to be appropriate in casual situations as well. But this watch will be primarily used for work, where it's paramount that the watch be fashionable and appropriate. I'm looking to spend no more than $350.

I need to know:
1. Which types of watches are appropriate for businessmen, and would work well in casual settings too? (leather bands? metal bands? thick or thin? Chronograph? etc.)
2. Which brands are considered business appropriate? (Armani? CK? Hugo Boss? Lacoste? D&G?)

I'm a bit partial to some of these below, are any of these appropriate?

I need as detailed a response as possible as I know almost nothing about watches or finance culture. Thanks a bunch!

Answer
If your boyfriend is an I-Banker or works with clients at any time during his work day, I would recommend sticking to actual watchmakers. To explain, while these watches look nice and look good, they are what are called "fashion watches." These watches are only designed and then licensed by Armani, Burberry etc... (And fun fact.. FOSSIL actually makes most of the watches you listed... basically those Burberry, Armani, Michael Kors watches are fancy looking Fossil watches (see wiki link below).

Examples of luxury watchmakers are your Rolexes, Omegas, Tag Heuers, IWC, etc... and the list goes on... a Patek Philippe chronograph will set you back $150,000 to put it in perspective. But seriously, few of us have the means to even drop a $1000 for a watch. While I imagine some of your boyfriend's clients may be sporting car-priced timepieces on their wrists, there are definitely quality watches in the $350 range.

For the price range you gave, I would look into Citizen, Seiko and Tissot. These are excellent watchmakers and their watches are extremely reliable and well made. The Citizen Eco-Drive for instance is one of the best quartz watches on the market. When investing in a quality watch or product in general, a good thing to look for is a company that specializes in doing what they do. I would leave Hugo Boss to men's suiting rather than fine watches.

Stick with a stainless steel face and a brown strap. This is timeless and can be dressed up or down. Black leather strap watches (while black 'goes' with everythings) can look too dressy. Stick with a watch face between 38mm - 42mm. (see the Tissot link below)

Hope this helps!

Dont you ppl think America could change the world but end up wasting money?

TP9

I'm sorry this is long but please read

Hello I love living in America it's probably the best place to live in the world but everyday I see people wasting money for no reason. If I was a celebrity like lebron james, tom hanks or tiger woods. I would be donating more than 50% of income (I swear on my life). All I need is a 1million. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with a little luxury. When I watch T.V. I see all these bad shows and movies and think the money used to make this film could have been used to help kids in Africa or something. I hate how celebrities donate some money to kids in a kind of ghetto neighborhood and make sure it's on T.V. Those kids don't even need that stuff and their neighborhood is just considered ghetto because the rest of America looks great. I also hate how people say their from the streets and say yeah I'm from New york, compton, detroit, chicago, miami. Try living in South Africa,Russia,Pakistan or even central America. You aint even seen ghetto yet. If you get kids from those 3rd world countries and put them in American ghettos, they will think there in heaven. Don't get me wrong America is a great country. It's clean, organized and practically anyone can make it here. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the government. This message is for the ignorant Americans that worry if their car, body or clothes look good. Stop being selfish and start donating. I'm not saying I'm perfect and maybe i am being a little hypocritical. I donated 25$ to world vision about a while ago. It wasn't a lot but it made me feel better. I suggest you do the same. Maybe I'm wrong what do you think?

Also I hate when celebrities give other celebrities gifts they dont need. I heard Adam Sandler gave the co stars from grown ups like brand new cars. Rappers waste like 100,000 dollars on jewelry and stuff. In America we got hot dog eating contests and stuff while ppl overseas are dying of starvation. Have you seen the show MTV cribs, sometimes it makes me so sick

Like i said before America is a great country but ppl here are spoiled. I donate every once in a while. Islamic relief, goodgoes.org or unicef are all great places to donate. Im not saying im a saint but atleast I help a little and im not even rich.

Their are some good celebrites who make their donations private like Brad Pitt,Steve Nash,Angelina Jolie,Dikembe Mutombo and Manute Bol

Read Manuto Bol's wiki under Activism and Life After Basketball. May Allah(swt) bless them all

Answer
Salam,

Nothing confuses me more than Earth and its people. People are very selfish creatures, just because your family is well taking care of doesn't mean your job is done! We must lend our hands to help those outside our family. We may be eating and sleeping well at night but who says your neighbor is? To turn on the TV and watch shows like "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and knowing life saving money are going to waste for our own selfish needs while desperate families die off one by one due to poor living... sickens me and Im sure many others as well. America has the opportunity to do good... & they have done so... but we could do BETTER.... Paying millions to basketball players and singers just doesn't hit me the right way..... Could it really hurt if some of that money lands on the hands of those that really need it?

Regardless we could sit on the computer and complain about what actions should be taken to make positive changes.. but people will be people... a selfish will be a selfish... a cheater a cheater.... Just know if you could make a difference whether it be put a smile on 1 face.. then go for it... dont wait for others to come and help you.. they just may NOT....

But Im glad to see others realize the bull crap happening around us.... the waste of money... the poor being thrown into the shadow ... Why do we give the famous and rich more attention than the kids dying of Aids... or lack of proper nutrition? Alot needs to change.. it will come... As Allah warns us ALL.. Allah will test us with hardship... ( loss of money.... food... etc. ) to see how much trust we really have in Allah... So the rich wont always be rich and the poor wont always not eat good....

<May Allah bless us all.. and guide us to Paradise>

the product i need to price is a mineral so you can answer with that in mind.

Answer
Premium Pricing:
Use a high price where there is a uniqueness about the product or service. This approach is used where a a substantial competitive advantage exists. Such high prices are charge for luxuries such as Cunard Cruises, Savoy Hotel rooms, and Concorde flights.

Penetration Pricing:
The price charged for products and services is set artificially low in order to gain market share. Once this is achieved, the price is increased. This approach was used by France Telecom in order to

Economy Pricing:
This is a no frills low price. The cost of marketing and manufacture are kept at a minimum. Supermarkets often have economy brands for soups, spaghetti, etc.

Price Skimming:
Charge a high price because you have a substantial competitive advantage. However, the advantage is not sustainable. The high price tends to attract new competitors into the market, and the price inevitably falls due to increased supply. Manufacturers of digital watches used a skimming approach in the 1970s. Once other manufacturers were tempted into the market and the watches were produced at a lower unit cost, other marketing strategies and pricing approaches are implemented.

Premium pricing, penetration pricing, economy pricing, and price skimming are the four main pricing policies/strategies. They form the bases for the exercise. However there are other important approaches to pricing.

Psychological Pricing:
This approach is used when the marketer wants the consumer to respond on an emotional, rather than rational basis. For example 'price point perspective' 99 cents not one dollar.

Product Line Pricing:
Where there is a range of product or services the pricing reflect the benefits of parts of the range. For example car washes. Basic wash could be $2, wash and wax $4, and the whole package $6.

Optional Product Pricing:
Companies will attempt to increase the amount customer spend once they start to buy. Optional 'extras' increase the overall price of the product or service. For example airlines will charge for optional extras such as guaranteeing a window seat or reserving a row of seats next to each other.

Captive Product Pricing:
Where products have complements, companies will charge a premium price where the consumer is captured. For example a razor manufacturer will charge a low price and recoup its margin (and more) from the sale of the only design of blades which fit the razor.

Product Bundle Pricing:
Here sellers combine several products in the same package. This also serves to move old stock. Videos and CDs are often sold using the bundle approach.

Promotional Pricing:
Pricing to promote a product is a very common application. There are many examples of promotional pricing including approaches such as BOGOF (Buy One Get One Free).

Geographical Pricing:
Geographical pricing is evident where there are variations in price in different parts of the world. For example rarity value, or where shipping costs increase price.

Value Pricing:
This approach is used where external factors such as recession or increased competition force companies to provide 'value' products and services to retain sales e.g. value meals at McDonalds.

Where can i buy cheapest Oakley sunglasses online?

there are lots of suppliers online selling Oakley sunglasses, and i was confused where can i buy cheapest Oakley sunglasses on the basis of good quality of course

Answer
Do you want fakes or do you want real Oakleys?

Oakley, like other luxury brands (LV, Prada, Gucci, etc.) practices price control and does not allow licensed retailers to discount products. If stores discount Oakley products without express permission from Oakley corporate, these stores will lose their licenses to sell Oakley.

There are only a few licenses Oakley dealers that are allowed to put product for sale below retail price:

Oakleyvault.com (this is Oakley's discount website)
www.backcountry.com
www.steepandcheap.com (the deals cycle through- you have to keep watching the website)
www,zappos.com
www.6pm.com (this site belongs to zappos).

All other deals you see are either private sales (there is no warranty even if you have the warranty paperwork) OR fakes.

What is the best UV index to get a dark tan in?

Sarah

If i lay out in the sun for an hour if the UV index is 9-10 will i tan or burn?

Answer
Burn.

Spots or blemish can be the start of a freckle, mole, skin tag, or skin diseases like Discoid Lupus, Bullous Pemphegoid or Lentigo (Google them) or stain from lotions.

If you got burned before the age of 18, it's hard telling if they're freckles and being out in the sun could make them darker & bumpier as you continue to age.

Listen. . . . I've been protecting myself from the sun since I was 9.

1. Because I don't want to look like a farmer.
2. Because I get too hot.
3. I want to look like movie stars & models, they have blemish-free skins.
4. I don't want to look like an old prune or get moles on my neck & face like my aunts.

No matter, I still got Discoid Lupus (Google it), caused from the sun. It took 12 years for them to fade. Tried all kinds of lotions that were prescribed to me, and none of them worked. More & more now I protect myself and I take my wide brim hat everywhere I go, or use an umbrella. In Asia, they use umbrella all the time. Here in the States, people started to catch on, and I see people walking w/umbrella, they are used on the beach, and they sell patio umbrellas. It was invented for a reason and also to protect us from getting skin cancer. Gene Simmons of KISS, have moles on his face & neck, now you see him under an umbrella with Shannon, during an outdoor event. Mario Lopez won't even go out in the sun to do a photo shoot for a tanning commercial, look how good his skin looks.

Sunscreen will not protect you from getting burned.

Sunscreen will only make your moles or freckles larger, bumpier & darker, if you have them already. Not just moles, but freckles, skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, Discoid Lupus, Bullous Pemphegoid, Lentigo (Google search them) and lentigines -- nearly always non-cancerous skin lesions

Sunscreen will not protect you from skin cancer.

Sunscreen will not protect you if you have allergies, I never thought I had allergies!

Sunscreens also discolor your skin - for ever!

Sunscreen blocks Vitamin D as well.

Tanning comes & go, unless you do them everyday 24/7. But in the end the only thing you'll benefit is either moles, freckles, skin tags or discolorations from sunscreens, lotions, etc. and the more you do, the more they get larger, darker & bumpier, even skin diseases like Bullous Pemphegoid or Discoid Lupus. Like exercising, your muscles will sag, when suddenly you stopped, same with getting a tan, they will fade.

Tanning, is a result for 'damaged skin' and no products can reverse you from skin cancer or damaged skin, may prevent you from pre-mature aging, but that's part of the billion dollar beauty industry.

How to get a tan before Memorial Day?

Megan

I'm really pale and never tried to tan before. I usually wear sunscreen so I don't really know how easily I burn. I want to get a tan before Memorial Day. What SPF should I use and how long should I lay out for everyday to get a tan?

Answer
Pale people don't tan, they burn.

To get super than you will have to be tanning for @ least 60 years, George Hamilton & Tom Jones are two examples, who ARE super tan! Google them.

What is the best Acoustic guitar for beginners that I would be able to use in the long run thats maybe $200 or under? And that would be able to sound like this, because i know some sound way different than others (and also depending on the person playing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiKrWQq6eKw Thank you!

Answer
There is no real best, only preference, tone comes from materials used, design and overall craftsmanship, no two brands use the same designs, its a copyright thing, except Epiphone and Gibson, as Gibson owns Epiphone, which has the luxury of copying Gibson designs and making them in China where your entry level player can afford them. which is why there so popular, all in all for the money worth every penny, other brands like Takemine and Yamaha, different designs, Takemine and Yamaha tend to have a brighter tone, others like Alverez and Washburn a bit deeper tones, all good guitars all have a different feel and nuance to them, as I said its a matter of preference. and yes all entry level guitars will be made in Asia, sorry. and whatever you do avoid the Fenders like the plague,

Beginner at tanning beds/ HELP?

Chanelle

So for my friends sweet sixteen, I want to be tan. Her party is next month. I wanna go to a tanning bed because I like the results better than spray tans. When should I start going/a week before the party???? And how many times should I do it, for how long? I've never been in an indoor tanning bed.

I plan only to do this for the party and never again because I know its bad for my skin :3

Do you think the ideal of having soft, shiny hair has a negative effect on girls who have naturally coarse hair?

Answer
Because in the real WORLD, people don't want to see something that is positive, and natural Afros the fluffy kind make one NEGATIVE. That's like eating hamburger everyday, when people could afford Filet Mignon. They don't want to show, this country is so poor, and going to the salon, is something positive that made US more luxury and because that's what OTHER COUNTRIES think of USA.
Watch: Good Hair - Documentary by Chris Rock 2009. or Tyra Banks What is Good Hair. Black women spend 80% of all hair products. She's got good advice!

It is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Another example: if you've got gray hair, you SHOULD COLOR IT. Gray is not acceptable in the business world. They are NEGATIVE, it means you're not taking care of yourself, and bringing yourself down, so they should be colored, to make yourself presentable TO THE WORLD.

They have opinions not the same as US 'normal hillbillly folks'. Once how I get compliments, when I style my hair sophisticated. Now I'm acceptable AGAIN!

âThere is a strong correlation between what we see in the mirror and how we feel about ourselves,â says Amy L. Flowers, PhD, a psychologist with expertise in self-esteem and body image and with a practice in Macon, Ga. âThomas Cash, a famous researcher in body image, states that up to 25 percent of our self-esteem is determined by how we feel about our bodies â you can't hate the way you look and still love yourself,â Flowers says. âAlso, we assume that others see us the way we see ourselves, so if we don't like a particular feature (like our hair), we assume that others find it repulsive, too.â

âI think hair can say a lot about how we see ourselves â if it looks like you just fell out of bed, it implies that you don't care about your appearance, which to me indicates poor self-esteem,â says Flowers. âI don't think you have to have on a full face of makeup before going out to get the mail, but a person who is going out in public should be clean and tidy. It shows self-respect and makes a good impression.â And she urges people to "remember that old expression: You only have one chance to make a first impression.â

Dana King, 53, started going gray in her 20s, began dyeing in her 30s and went to work for San Franciscoâs KPIX TV station in 1997, rising to news anchor. In 2010, she first approached her general manager about her giving up the dye.
âHe didnât like the idea at all and he asked me not to do it,â King said. Soon after, she did it anyway.
After sharing her hair story on-air, King was deluged with emails from viewers, including many women who colored and some who worried she had fallen ill. âThe response was overwhelmingly positive,â King said. âThey said it was a relief for them, that they could see someone that made it OK to be gray.â

Google: Rhonda Lee. Copied & pasted from her getting fired @ the KTBS station.
"I am very proud of my African-American ancestry which includes my hair. For your edification: traditionally our hair doesn't grow downward. It grows upward."
"Many Black women use strong straightening agents in order to achieve a more European grade of hair and that is their choice. However in my case I don't find it necessary."
"I'm very proud of who I am and the standard of beauty I display. As women we come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, and levels of beauty."
"Showing little girls that being comfortable in the skin and HAIR God gave me is my contribution to society," the TV personality concluded.

how long does it take to get tan in a bed?

Tanning, is a result for 'damaged skin' and no products can reverse you from skin cancer or damaged skin, may prevent you from pre-mature aging, but that's part of the billion dollar beauty industry.
A new study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology has found that tanning bed exposure can be dangerous when tanners self-diagnose skin problems and use the radiation to treat skin eruptions. The study specifically found that a tanning bed user that used the radiation to treat a mild skin rash caused by an ibuprofen allergy developed a much more severe reaction called toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). When left untreated, TEN can be fatal.
Melanoma is the leading cause of death from skin disease. An estimated 76,259 new cases of skin cancer will be reported particularly among women in their 20's & 30's, and that's 6,020 more than 2011, people died from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute. Two million people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the US each year, according to the EPA's Sun-Wise Program. That's more than breast, colon, lung and prostate cancer cases combine! Now however, a recently published study suggests that those people with ginger hair and fair complexions face a much higher risk of developing dead skin cancer even if they are completely protected.

Who cares if you have white skin, at least you will look beautiful when you get in your 50's, and girls with whiter skin will look YOUNGER looking in their 50's if you know how to preserve your skin. There's a reason why Robert Pattinson is so popular with the girls. His face has a kind of gorgeousness one sees in the faces of children, with its perfect pale skin, red lips, large eyes. It's hard to say it any other way: he's beautiful.

Watch Mirror, Mirror when the evil queen played by Julia Roberts wanted to look as fair as the princess played by Lily Collins. I came from a vacay in Ireland, and many of the people there working in the profession (luxury hotels and banks, etc.) have beautiful white complexion!

I've been protecting myself from the sun since age 9, but no matter, I got Discoid Lupus. Google that one. It was like someone punched my chin and it gave a purplish mark. It took 12 years for that to fade, so now I'm using a wide brim hat or umbrella for protection. Gene Simmons & Shannon both have been seen hold an umbrella during an event. They were invented before beauty products, for a reason. Google also Bullous Pemphegoid, photos, another skin disorder.

I dont have a babysitter, and my husband works so I have to take my kids with me. My 7 mo old sits up front in the infant seat and I have to put my 22 mo old in the basket part. He somewhat enjoys sitting there and "helping" mommy put things in the cart but can get a little out of hand somtimes and refuses to sit down. For the 1st time, which I knew would happen sooner or later, he fell out. Hes okay, dont worry, but scared me to death! Its the only way I can shop, I cant let him walk beside me because I will be chasing him all over and never get any shopping done. Our store does not have the carts with the 2 seats up front for 2 kids. And I DO NOT have the luxury of a babysitter because everyone works. Any suggestions? I distract him the best I can but Im running out of options. Hes almost 2 and doesnt quite grasp the fact of "doing what he is told" quite yet. Thanks for your help.
And its not easy dragging a second cart aroud either, tried that once. I hate putting him in the basket cuase I know its not safe unless I can keep him seated. My mom said I fell out when I was his age but I wriggled out of the belt up front!
And my 7 mo old is too big to put in an infant carrier seat ant put it over the basket part and my oldest ride up front. Thats what I used to do. She fits just right in the infant seat attached to the cart.

Answer
When mine were that little, I grocery shopped at night when they were asleep, and my husband was home.

Could you enlist a friend to do a trade, like either swap days or take turns the same day, you go and she watches your kids, then she goes and you watch her kids?

Does a nearby church offer a Mother's Day Out program you could do for 1-3 days a week, 9a-12n, depending on what you need? You'll really appreciate this time to do lots of things, like dr appts, hair cuts, working out, cleaning house, or whatever.

Are people evolving into a more apathetic being?

Deana Davi

It seems like as time goes on, people become more apathetic. This is not how I envisioned future humans to be, but tht's probably becaseu of watching Star Trek when I was young.

Answer
The world in the previous decades had more social and professional justice and sense of good overall. People could have a stable life looking forward for the future.
In today's world, people have to fight hard just to stay afloat and social and professional injustice is ubiquitous. The crooked politicians are hostile to the people who elected them and do not represent them, but instead represent the elites financial interests. People see these criminals not only go unpunished but, instead, rewarded for their criminal actions with luxury retirements and millionaire off shore accounts. These days, banks and financial institutions sell out entire countries and their population for their own profit creating widespread misery. Money is above everything. it buys everything and everyone and always has the final word. Many people don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Injustice and low ethics, as a whole, became ubiquitous. Even as one turns on the TV, one can't almost (or not at all) see or hear about these major problems being discussed (widespread financial corruption and its toll on entire countries and societies, people's lives) above everything what one sees an obvious corrupted stupefying propaganda machine that completely ignores the "elephant in the room" and ethical values, in general, instead, promoting a numb acceptance of these injustices as an unavoidable fact of life. Movies and tv-series are completely devoid of any intellectual content that would make you think and just aim for instant gratification and relief from the ugly reality with a standardized formula of permanently fixed brain numbing content.

All these, I think, contribute to this apathetic state of mind.

How much car can I afford, and what car should I get with that budget?

Hey guys, so I'm a young professional in my mid 20s and I still have my first car that my parents bought for me after I graduated high school (An old VW Golf GTI It's not bad). I think its time for a change, as it's kind of embarassing to pick up women in it. So currently I'm making around 175k after tax per year, and around 25k in rent is coming to me as well per year, but that's not guaranteed. My total expenses are 4 k a month, sometimes less. So, what would you guys recommend? Preferrably the car would be at least capable in all weather conditions.

Answer
I answered another question kind of like this... This is the answer I gave the other person below. You don't say what your age is, so I can't recalculate the numbers, but you're a young professional â I am sure you can figure out how to work a compound interest calculator. Some other guy said 50% of your income is acceptable... which is over $80k for you. Since you shouldn't have a car loan for more than 3 years, you could buy a 40k car and invest the other 40k...

You can get a lot for 40k. Does it have to be brand new? You could get a 2 year old 5 series or a 3 or 4 year old 750xi for around 40k with AWD. A 2 or 3 year old car has already depreciated a lot in value, and as long as you get a car that is still being made (meaning the body style, etc., hasn't completely changed) no one will know it is old unless you tell them. If you buy it pre-owned from a car dealer, you can probably get an extended warranty, etc. If you don't like BMW, check out the Infiniti M37x or M56x. You can get a 1 or 2 year old one for around half of what they are selling for brand new.

As for a car being suitable for all weather conditions, if you get a car that is AWD and put snow tires on it, you will be fine. The tires are SOOOOOO important. Don't cheap out and just get "all-season" tires. You need winter tires for the winter. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2wTg0l3_wI it shows summer vs all season vs winter tires.

~~~~~~
Your car loan shouldn't be for more than 3 years... Since you're 22 now (you didn't give me your age, so i can't recalculate this), if you invested that 40k over the next three years and could average 6-8% over the next 40 years, you would have...
$442,000 â $935,000. Is that car really worth almost an extra $1,000,000? (Accounting for inflation at 2.5%/year, that comes to almost $170,000 â $353,000. So, whatever you could buy for that today, you could buy the same exact thing when you are 65.)
Also, make sure you fully fund your ROTH IRA and your 401(k) to the match (if you get a 401(K) plan through your company) before you even worry about buying a car that is well above your means. You're very young, so now is the time to invest for your retirement... You'll thank me when you are old :) BY THE WAY!!! You can get a Roth IRA even though you don't qualify for one because you make too much money. Open a non-tax-deductible traditional IRA and do ROTH conversions.
~~~~~~~

My rule of thumb is don't spend more than 10% of your monthly after-tax income on a car payment... You probably make around 120k/yr after-taxes without counting your rental income. Don't figure your rental income into what you make because at any time your tenants could simply stop paying you. 120k/yr is 10k/month. A 40k car loan with no down payment over three years is going to be around 1150-1200/month depending on the interest rate you get. I think that's perfectly acceptable to go a little over the 10% in your case because you make a larger amount of money than the average person.

Also, count on your gas bill and insurance bill going up with having a luxury car. It shouldn't really affect you too much, but it's something to consider.

Why are pretty women attracted to gangsters?

I watch mob movies and play video games on organized crime. All the pretty women are romantically involved with men in the criminal underworld. The average women are with non-criminal men.

I guess gangsters get all the women.

Answer
It is true that you are getting your source from movies and video games but on the other hand there is a sense of priority in that lifestyle, the best restaurants, respect out of fear, luxury items, and somehow a belief that her love will change him. Most "gangsters" live a double life and as sociopathic as they may be on the street can be just as loving and gentle at home. Women love power in many forms and their are many woman who will find that lifestyle brash and unacceptable.

Answer
I've just been watching the CNN, BBC and Sky News on that very subject. They were showing a horrifying hospital scenes where there was only one survivor, a woman who was a Nanny for the Qaddafi Household. Completely bald with unbelievable scold-burns to her face and head. Qaddafi's wife had poured boiling water on her head for refusing to beat one of the children, as ordered.

All the pro -Qaddafi staff had fled as the revolutionaries approached, leaving the wounded to simply die. 50 people dead, lying in hospital beds.

Famously, Qaddafi boasted of an all female 'Amazon' Imperial Guard, some 100 strong, and they got away as soon as they could and told reporters that they were repeatedly raped by Qaddafi, all his sons and his Generals, as perks for supporting him.

They told of people being shot out of hand during His reign for criticising Him and the camera-men went around the opulent villas and apartments where the regime lived, with gold-plated bath taps, huge private swimming pools and every luxury imaginable.

The only 'human rights that existed there were what Qaddafi decided and that was very little.

wearing a gold medal, is it haram?

Anonymous

and how about bronze?

would they be classified as jewelery?
thanks for your help.

Answer
Islam has, however, prohibited two kinds of adornment for men, while permitting them to women. These are, first, gold ornaments and, second, clothing made of pure silk. `Ali reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took some silk in his right hand and some gold in his left, declaring, "These two are haram for the males among my followers." (Reported by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Hayyan, and Ibn Majah, who reports the additional phrase, "but halal for the females.") `Umar reported that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say, "Do not wear silk, for those who wear it in this life shall not wear it in the Hereafter." (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim) On another occasion, referring to a silken garment, he said, "This is the dress of a man who has no character.'' (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once saw a gold ring on a man's hand. He immediately took it from him and threw it down saying, "Does a person pick up a piece of burning coal and hold it in his hand?" After the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had left the place, someone asked the man, "Why do you not pick it up and benefit from it?" He replied, "No, by Allah! I shall not pick it up after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has thrown it away." (Reported by Muslim)

The same prohibition which applies to the gold ring likewise applies to what we observe among conspicuous spenders, i.e., the gold pen, gold watch, gold cigarette case and lighter, gold teeth, etc.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), however, permitted men to wear silver rings. On the authority of Ibn `Umar, al-Bukhari reported the former saying, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wore a silver ring. After him, Abu Bakr and then `Umar and `Uthman wore it, until it fell off his finger into the well of Arees." (Reported by al-Bukhari) As for other metals such as iron, there are no sound texts prohibiting them. On the contrary, in the Sahih of al-Bukhari we find that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) advised a man who wanted to marry a woman to, "Present her with a gift, even if it be ring made of iron." On the basis of this hadith al-Bukhari inferred the permissibility of iron rings.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made concessions in the wearing of silken garments for medical reasons, as he gave `Abd ar-Rahman ibn `Awf and az-Zubayr ibn al-`Awwam, both of whom suffered from scabies, permission to wear silk. (Reported by al-Bukhari)

The Wisdom of These Two Prohibitions Concerning Men

By means of these two prohibitions which concern men, Islam's aim is to achieve certain noble educational and moral objectives.

Since it is the religion of jihad (striving) and strength, Islam must safeguard the manly qualities of men from any show of weakness, passivity, and lethargy. Allah has made the physique of the man different from that of the woman, and it does not befit a man to wear clothes made of fine material or to adorn his body with costly ornaments.

There is, however, a social aim underlying these prohibitions. The prohibition of gold and silk to males is part of a broader Islamic program of combating luxuriousness in living. From the Qur'anic point of view, luxurious living leads to weakness among nations and to their eventual downfall; the existence of luxury is also an expression of social injustice, as only a few can afford luxurious items at the expense of the deprived masses of people.

In addition to this, luxurious living is an enemy of every call towards truth, justice, and social reform. The Qur'an says: "And when We intend that We should destroy a township, we permit its luxury-loving people to commit wickedness therein. Then the word is proved true against it, and We then destroy it utterly." (Al-Isra': 16) and again, "And We did not send a warner to any township without its luxury-loving people saying, 'Assuredly we are disbelievers in that with which you have been sent.'" (Saba': 34)

In keeping with the spirit of the Qur'an, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade Muslims any indulgence in conspicuous consumption. He not only forbade the use of gold and silk to men but also forbade men and women alike the use of gold and silver utensils.

Finally, economic considerations also carry some weight here. Since gold is a universal medium of exchange, using it to make household utensils or ornaments for men does not make sense in economic terms

Is there an advertising technique that sells better than sex, if so we do we keep resorting to sex appeal?

Is sex appeal even currently the most popular advertising technique?

Answer
The advertisement being used in any case has a specific aim for a specific brand/product. So depending on that specific purpose, a medium and message is chosen, which may or may not involve sexual appeal.

When you watch TV next time, take note of the vehicle most advertisements are using. It will change over the course of the day. Early morning children's programs will have ads that appeal to mum's emotional side - through her children, like a mum serving a certain jam for breakfast and her kids looking at her with loving grins as they eat it - and the kids' need for excitement and socialisation.

Sex appeal works if it is for the right product. You don't see world vision and other charities trying to gain income through sex appeal. Nor are calls for blood donations using it. And, think of political advertising before elections - do they use scantily clad bikini models next to their candidate?

The premise usually used behind sex appeal is that, by using or buying an offering, you will be able to attract the person depicted in the ad and for lack of better words, 'get laid'. The product becomes associated with sex. Think of 'The Lynx Effect' and so on.

It is great for products that communicate power, status and luxury goods. High-powered cars, expensive clothes, and as seen nearly all the time, for things like cologne, aftershave and so on. Fragrances are used to attract the opposite sex as one of if not the main purpose for using them, so sex appeal is a perfect tool for them. You will notice these products are typically aimed at men... If you are selling a product to retired women, sex appeal may not work so well!

So to conclude on your question - how well an advertising tool or technique works depend on the product and the target market. You cannot call sex appeal the 'best' tool. But it certainly has its place among the myriad of other tools for promoting a product.
