What watch brand should I buy?

needguitar

I am 21 and I am considering purchasing a watch for an everyday wear at the office, or at play.
The conditions i really want is that the watch should be luxury sport, automatic chrono.
I've set my eyes on the Tag Carrera Daydate. however, my parents have told me about watch resale values and how Tags dont have them compared to rolex and IWC. This really troubles me because it seems that the closer i get to buying an "investment watch" with premium branding, the less it seems that it can be an everyday watch. So what do you guys think? Is the tag carrera really personal garbage forever once i buy it? what about the IWC Spitfire?
and steel strap, no leather as sweat makes it.. uncool
what brands do u suggest between IWC, breitling, and Tag

Answer
You don't buy a watch as an investment. Only watches in the $10,000 plus range hold their value, and even then, they rarely go up much. Unless you are fascinated by the differences in the internal workings (say, triple axis tourbillon vs. flying tourbillon), watches are jewelry, and you should buythem as such. Buy the one you think looks best, and buy the next one based on the variety it adds to your wardrobe.

As for other brands, for men I like Audemars Piguet, Breguet, Baume & Mercier, and Patek Phillipe. Most steel Tags are great "working watches," since they are automatics, and I actually think their leather Carrera's are beautiful and nothing to look down upon.

Is Chrysler re-imagining itself?

The Intell

Is Chrysler trying to reimagine itself as a luxury brand.

That's the vibe I got after watching the Chyrsler 200 ad yesterday during the Super Bowl featuring Eminem.

Answer
Do you mean re-image? Well they most certainly needed to do something don't you think? They are currently rated as the American vehicle with the worst initial quality and the lowest resale value. Since their purchase by Fiat they are planning to bring in some imports, drop some existing models, and add some new models of which the new 200 is the first step. They are light years behind Ford and trailing GM as well so they'll have a tough fight. With Toyota building so much crap these days however they might be able to take some of that business. I'd like to see them survive so I hope they can pull this effort off and get back on track.

Why are there very high levels of feminism in Canada, Australia but not US, UK?

Biker

If you watch public debates in these countries, you'll see that feminism is embraced in the first 2 but not as much in the latter 2, even when culturally they're very similar.

I think I know why. Its because affirmative action and other such feminist entitlements are luxuries that only 'privileged' countries can have.

Canada & Australia are obviously privileged because they have a huge country with very little people. If UK tries to restrict their economy with the same pro-women/poor/elderly policies, they'd go bust as they're already becoming.
@Yacofee- that's a biased statistic from a feminist website. These are the real statistics from credible sources
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_HDI
However, it is true that life is easier in Nordic countries, CA and AU compared to US, UK, Germany or Japan. Its common sense, when you have lots of natural resources you can afford to restrict your human resource.

That's why I called them privileged.

Answer
Feminism is in a correlative relation with how leftist-oriented a country is; hence feminism in Scandinavian countries > AU and CA > UK and USA.

So the question is why are CA and AU more generally leftist and the UK and USA more centrist and rightist. I think it's actually impossible to answer that question. It could have gone either way. It's a result of circumstances and even coincidences that had happened at different points in history.

Edit:
Leftist-leaning countries give women more privilieges over men, though self-entitled princesses see this as something normal, ie. "treating women with more respect"; centrist countries are the ones that are egalitarian - Austria, Switzerland.

Iceland bankrupted a few years ago. 'Nuff said.
Leftism has shown itself for what it's worth in the past 60 years or so; only a fool can advocate for it.

How can i keep my appearence up?

MARIAHC &

I became a new mommy in 2011 & since then, my appearance has faltered. When i get payed, all of my paychecks goes on bills & i barely have enough for my daughters diapers. I dislike doing my hair. I would like to go to a beautician & go to get my nails & hair did every so often, but I simply can't afford to spoil myself to keep up my appearance. I see lots of beautiful moms with themselves well kept up & I wish that I was blessed to get that treatment & sustain a lovely appearance again. Moms, how do you all manage to develop & maintain great appearance? *MaTURE COMMENTS PLS* :)
, yes I agree with you "me"..but sadly, I'm single & I do everything independantly.

Answer
The EXCEPTION is the woman who has kids and looks well put together. The
EXCEPTION. I'd be willing to bet that underneath it all, she's a hot mess.

The rest of us must be wash n wear. Just because someone has a husband doesn't mean they're rolling in
money. Your average couple is struggling to make ends meet, and most women can't afford luxuries like makeup and
getting their hair done. Baby comes first, food comes first, bills come first.

Remember: having babies changes everything and we agreed to this change by having babies.

This isn't a bad thing. My son is way more important than how I look.

I gave up on makeup while pregnant. I worked 70 -80 hours a week as a waitress
and and discovered sleep was more important than makeup.

This carried over after my son was born. I was 38 when I had him and discovered
that, in order to keep my sanity that I had to get enough sleep and well, certain
things got sacrificed.

I cut my hair super short, so that all I had to do was run my hands thru it. I
even managed to take showers on a daily basis. I went to school, graduated and
got a job using my tech skills, and guess what? Not one of the women wore
makeup!

We were all fully clothed, however.

Once my son got old enough, to where I thought I could start wearing makeup
again, the little stinker got into it and turned it all into guns and phones and
walkie talkies. Something about the colors of eyeshadows entranced him.

Over the years, I've kept a simple, inexpensive face clean routine. Irish spring, or
zest, Dove if I could swing it, Ponds cold cream (again if I could swing it) and Seabreeze.
Never did anything fancy with nails, so this wasn't an issue.

Learn to treat yourself in ways you can afford but that don't necessarily have to do with clothing or makeup.

Take long hot showers/baths whenever you can. Get someone to come over and watch the baby for a couple of hours while you do this.
Make the VERY important effort of eating right.
Take regular walks and/or exercise if you have the time/energy.
Treat yourself to dark chocolate once in a while.
Get enough sleep.

What should I do about my unbelievably white skin?

omnomnom

I am half-Greek. I have very dark features, for example, my hair and my eyes are both very dark. However, on my dad's side I am white, and I have inherited his very, very white skin color. You can imagine the stark contrast between my dark features and white skin. In California, where I live, I stand out, which is something I do not want. Where I live, everyone is tan and wears shorts. People go swimming almost everyday except when it rains. I wish I could wear shorts but my legs are so white it looks silly and people often tease me, so I always wear long pants, and sweaters too to cover my arms. I wish I could be tan, but I turn red in the sun. My mom won't let me get a spray tan, and besides I don't have money for that. What can I do?

Answer
You need to watch: Mirror, Mirror, with Julia Roberts and Lily Collins as Snow White.

Many people envy complexion such as yours. If you go to Asia, India, Africa, where dark skin is the majority, people would treat you like a Goddess.

Tanning, is a result for 'damaged skin' and no products can reverse you from skin cancer or damaged skin, may prevent you from pre-mature aging, but that's part of the billion dollar beauty industry.
A new study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology has found that tanning bed exposure can be dangerous when tanners self-diagnose skin problems and use the radiation to treat skin eruptions. The study specifically found that a tanning bed user that used the radiation to treat a mild skin rash caused by an ibuprofen allergy developed a much more severe reaction called toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). When left untreated, TEN can be fatal.
Melanoma is the leading cause of death from skin disease. An estimated 76,259 new cases of skin cancer will be reported particularly among women in their 20's & 30's, and that's 6,020 more than 2011, people died from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute. Two million people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the US each year, according to the EPA's Sun-Wise Program. That's more than breast, colon, lung and prostate cancer cases combine!
Mom died of Paget Cancer and has bullous pemphegoid, skin disorder, and I'm a cancer awareness advocate.
Lotions does not protect you from nasty, painful burns. Lotions does not protect you from skin cancer. Lotions does not protect you from skin diseases. Lotions does not protect you from discolorations - permanently. And lotions does not protect you from skin tags, freckles, moles, they will only get larger, darker, and bumpier as they are exposed from UV.

To get the level of SPF you see on the label, you have to spread the lotion on like a layer of vanilla frosting; that's the thickness used in Food & Drug Administration tests. "So your SPF 30 is really a 10." says Steven Q Wang, M.D. director of dermatologic surgery and dermatology @ Memorial Sloan-Ketterng Cancer Center in Basking Ridge, NJ and author of Beating Melanoma. So don't skim: Frost that cupcake!"
~ Vogue May or June 2011. Glamour May 2012.

I came from a vacay in Ireland, and many of the people there working in the profession (luxury hotels and banks, etc.) have beautiful white complexion!

I've been protecting myself from the sun since age 9, but no matter, I got Discoid Lupus. Google that one. It was like someone punched my chin and it gave a purplish mark. It took 12 years for that to fade, so now I'm using a wide brim hat or umbrella for protection. Gene Simmons & Shannon both have been seen hold an umbrella during an event. They were invented before beauty products, for a reason. Google also Bullous Pemphegoid, photos, another skin disorder. If I were you, I'd continue protecting myself from the sun. You're mom is a smart woman!

Take the Skin Picture Quiz - Identify These Common Skin Conditions on MedicineNet.

SELF-TANNERS: "I've had many patients who think these products somehow offer UV protection or that they give them a 'base tan' so they won't burn," says Dr. Hale, a NYC M.D., dermatologist and vice chair of the Skin Cancer Foundation. "'If I have skin cancer, you'll just remove it, and I'll be OK'. But the color that self-tanners create on your skin is completely artificial. But a lot of young women use these products so they don't look pale when they go to the beach to tan." 86% of women surveyed who use self-tanners reported they'd also baked in the sun, and 36% admitted they'd also used tanning beds (a leading cause of melanoma!) at least once in the past year. Australian study confirms that sunless tanning likely did not reduce the amount of UV exposure women get.

TAN OBSESSION: "When I see a woman with bronzed skin, I look at it the way you might picture the inside of a smoker's lungs," says Dr. Ellen Marmur, MD., associate professor of dermatology @ the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in NYC.

MFS: Will you watch the women's futbol Olympic final? + long BQ?

i!Moreno_1

Its gonna USA vs Japan again like in the world cup. I though the USA vs Canada match was pretty exciting. Is anybody gonna watch it?

BQ: Okay so I have a little money saved up and idk what would be the right thing to spend it on. The options are the following,

A) I really want to go to a concert that is in a couple weeks, I have been waiting for it for a while now but its kinda expensive since its a two day concert. I would have to pay for my friend too though cuz he's broke and who knows when he would pay me back.

B) Buy some new glasses, I have some okay ones right now but I don't like wearing these in public, I want some better ones that I can wear all the time. I see that most cool glasses are expensive though.

C) Buy clothes for school. I only need a couple pair of jeans really. Could be the cheapest out of all the options.

D) Buy a couple futbol jerseys that I want but don't really need. Could also be a little cheaper than the other options.
For the BQ I just want to know which one you would go with if you were me. Kinda stupid question but Im trying to save money now and idk which one to go with lol
The final is tomrrow, idk at what time though lol. Probably in the morning I think.
@Jessica, Yesss!!!!!!!!! lol , I went last year and it was cool but this time its gonna be waayy better since its two days. Now its like 100 bucks though and I would have to pay for my friend too so it would be like 200 bucks :/

Answer
Of course =D
BQ: Sounds like u really need those glasses id rather do that to get ones u dont feel ashamed of wearing
Jeans would be good too if u need them
the concert & jerseys r just luxuries u really dont need

Do you think it was smart of Palin to bring up being a hockey mom in America?

Banned fro

this isn't canada..no one here likes hockey..doesn't this just show how out of touch she is? She's been living out there in the middle of know where too long. I wouldn't exactly go out and brag about my husband being a snow mobile driver either..a luxury..at a time when most people are struggling to pay for gas.

to tells me how out of it she is.
reaching? lol....didn't you guys steal that from the obama supporters?

talk about reaching.

look fact is nobody watches hockey..it was stupid of her to bring it up.

but then again you probably live in the middle of nowhere
according to the nielson ratings barly anybody watched hockey in the usa this past year...so...
the right is so far behind that they will accept a woman that mccain just met about 2 months ago (and not even met just shook her hand)..who thinks running a town of 8 thousand is "experience"..she say's show fought big oil..but yet just APPROVED A 27 MILLION DOLLAR pipeline...so much for fighting them and looking for them alternative oils she claims she's looking for. Then there's her husband that helps run a BIG oil company..matter of factly I believe he's vp of bp...something like that.

why didn't she fight to get a new refinery in alaska? ya know so gas could be cheaper than the 8 dollars a gallon it is there now?

palins so eazy a target it makes me ALMOST want to NOT write about her.

Answer
Is that what she said? wow..she's out of it. No one watches hockey in the states..oh wait..yes they do all 50 of them.

Its a sad case she has. The men who run the republican party only picked her because she looks cool..she's a man's fantasy a women with a gun and she's pretty..but yet they forgot that most women don't support gun rights and that most women dont' support taking away roe vs wade and that most women DON'T RELATE to a gun carrying "hockey" mom. They picked Palin because she APPEALS to the men but they MEANT to use her as a tool to get women.

it went backwards

what are some luxury watches for men?

Zyzz

i usually get nixon watches or bulova watches. what watch companies have luxury watches but still under like 700 dollars?

Answer
Luxury watches are usually considered to be costlier than $700. I recently finished writing the 5th edition of my book about "The Costliest Watch Brands". The costliest brand overall now is Richard Mille whose cheapest watch, a basic steel sports watch, costs $70,000. His costliest now is a $660,000 tourbillon. The 2nd costliest brand is Patek Philippe that begins at $25,400 for a basic steel sports watch. Costliest now is a minute repeater-tourbillon-perpetual calendar that isn't priced but probably costs nearly a million bucks. Also in the 20 Costliest Brands are Roger Dubuis, F.P. Journe, Greubel Forsey, Franck Muller (whose $2,666,700 "Aeternitas Mega 4" is the most complicated wristwatch ever made with 1483 parts), A. Lange & Sohne, Concord, Jacob & Co., Parmigiani, Harry Winston, Vacheron Constantin, Piaget, Audemars Piguet, etc.
In recent watch magazines and almanacs, I see these brands have mechanical watches priced $449 to $700: BWC-Swiss, Deep Blue, Nivrel, Stowa, Tissot and Vostok.
More common in the price range you want are quartz watches priced $349 to $700 by Alfex, Boccia, Botta, Chronotech, Citizen, Ernest Borel, ESQ, Gc, Haemmer, Issey Miyake, Links, Luminox, Movado, Ocean 7, Pierre Junod, Reactor, Sector, Seiko, Swiss Military, Tissot, Victorinix, Vuarnet, Wenger and YES.
I've owned watches by Citizen, Movado, Sector, Seiko and Tissot, and I can testify that they are good. (I also own watches by Patek Philippe [1893, 1926 and 1995 models], Vacheron Constantin [1902, 1933 and 1994 models] and Piaget [1953 and 1979 models] that are great.)
EDIT- Shiraishi and Carlos listed some brands that cost more than the $700 maximum you want!
Epos, $1350 to $2550
Omega, $4400 to $35,200
TAG Heuer, $2700 to $9500 for sure and some not priced surely cost even more
Union, $1995 to $4795

What is the difference between luxury watches and regular watches?

It's Like

Answer
Luxury watches are more expensive than regular watches. Luxury watches are made with higher quality materials and are made by high end brands like Rolex, Breitling, etc. If you have the money to spend on a luxury watch, then I would go that route. If you don't then go with a what your are comfortable buying. If you are not sure, go to a good jeweler and look at some high end watches and ask questions so that you can compare the luxury watches to other regular watches that you have seen around.

Who owns a Bulova watch? Men and Women share your experience.?

Truth

How are they? Are they quality watches? How do they measure up? Is it a luxury watch or just another Timex or Casio (sorry not to disparage any owners of Timex or Casio).

I'm considering getting a Bulova but unsure if it's a quality time peice such as B & M, Cartier, Movado, etc.

Give me your opinions

Answer
Great subject! I have 3 primary wrist watches~ 2 Seikos & 1 Bulova! My Bulova is the newest, Feb 2004. It's just fine but, in spite of the 4 button, vibration/audible alarm, smart gold/oyster face, brown leather strap, I am partial to the Seikos due to the nice, unique 'chime' alarms, 5 button case with glow in the dark hands & dials, gold inner dials & date displays! The Bulova was selected for the utilitarian operation of the silent (vibration) alarm while I was an Usher in a concert hall. It looks fine with a Tux or jeans but this Millenium model dosn't have a date window & it's not illuminated! The Seikos are selected for bling bling with pizzazz! The features of the Seiko actually have me spoilt for the second one. While the 1st is Gold Cased with white face & black strap, the 2nd is all gold on gold on gold! I really LIKE my Bulova & do knock around about an 1/8th of the time with brownie, but I LOVE my Seikos with 5/8th of the time goldie & 1/4 time blackie! I'm not impressed with anything else I've seen lately. The Rolex is nice & pricey but doesn't sound as good as my $350- Seikos or even my $200 Bulova! They ALL keep the same time!

Breguet XX or Cartier Ballon Bleu?

DrNoSxg

I saw a Breguet XX aviators watch on the silver bracelet. I just wanted to ask an owners what they think as I also like the Cartier Ballon Bleu.
I could end up buying one eventually so helpful advice please be as helpful as possible and not all both are good watches but arent necessary.
Thanks

Answer
I would prefer the Cartier purely for the history and integrity of the brand, the fact that their stores are worldwide and that they bring out new models frequently. They are au courant -and always will be.

CARTIER BALLON BLEU de CARTIER
Cartier Ballon Bleu watches are the newest addition to the Cartier family. The most stunning fact about the Ballon Bleu is that every model incorporates solid gold into the timepiece, and no stainless steel only version has been produced. How do Westboro Baptist Church members justify their embrace and utilization of goods and technology?

Clyde

Most of us dislike their approach in preaching their beliefs. However, let's say, theoretically, that what they say in interviews and demonstrations is true. I am curious as to how they would respond to a question about their use of the latest technology (Twitter, iPhones [some have them in demonstration footage]), their clothing (name brand [Nike], other textiles produced in mass quantity in China, sunglasses clearly not hand made), other tools they use to highlight their beliefs (Photoshop, Windows) and their own personal luxuries (leather couches, new appliances, entertainment centers with surround sound and flat screen televisions). I am not being facetious, but truly interested in what the online community thinks they would justify these utilizations.

They preach that their intent is to make all aware of God's will, and that if we are not showing others the way, we are enabling 'f**s' and the destruction of our own world. BUT, if they are contributing to this 'enabling' society through purchasing and utilizing all of the means listed above, are they not, themselves, enabling the enablers?

I, most likely, similar to many of you have spent some time researching the WBC and watching interviews and no one, not even Brick Stone as far as I can tell, brings up these seemingly obvious questions. There seems to be some serious double-standards occurring here.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks in advance...
For instance, just now I watched a clip of Brick Stone interviewing Steve Drain in February of this year, and Mr. Drain is wearing an Under Armour brand jacket. Under Armour, like most widespread, successful companies, has a non-discrimination policy. So, by purchasing these garments (and promoting them by wearing them) are they not supporting companies whose ideologies are in complete contrast to their own?

Answer
Not that I agree with WBC and how they do things, nowhere in the Bible does it forbid Christians to wear clothes that are of a brand name. The Bible basically just said to dress modestly...so whether the brand be Nike, Under Armor, etc... it's not forbidden.

As far as technology goes, the church utilizes those things to operate in today's world. Those things were created by humans to enhance life. They are not by themselves wrong, but the use of them that can be wrong. If you read the Bible, people back then were fishermen, carpenters, builders, clothing makers, shipbuilders, etc... They made stuff that helped people function in the world. "We are all sinners and come short of the glory of God" was as true then as it is now. Not every shipbuilder was a follower of Jesus, or lived a life that went along with the Gospel, but their boats were still used by the disciples to fish and travel from place to place.

Christians today are businessman, carpenters, mechanics, electricians, etc... and "We are all sinners..." still applies - christian or not. Whether or not the Christian does research or is enlightened by the brand name's company that may or may not agree or go against the policies of their church - and how they feel they should react - is between them and God. But nowhere in the Bible does it forbid the use of these things.

FYI, when you read the Bible it may seem as though it's full of conflicts, but that's because there are different "dispensations" (periods of time in English, or "ages"). The Old Testament, for example, was basically the dispensation of Law. Simply put - The people had to follow all the laws, or they were condemned. There was only one way to get out of or make right your sins, and that was to sacrifice a "clean" animal, such as a sheep. That animal's blood was put on the alter and burned. The sacrifice of the animal's blood caused God to forgive that person's sin -- but it only lasted a limited time.People had to sacrifice animals on the alter all the time to cover their since.

Today, we are in the dispensation, or age of Grace - why? Because God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for all of our sins. He is an everlasting sacrifice. His blood was shed to eternally cover all of our sins. So, we don't need to follow the law like the people in the Old Testament did. "Everything is permissible, but everything is not beneficial" according 1 Corinthians 10:23. so it is not wrong for a Christian to wear Under Armor, or use an iPhone. Now, if a Christian beat up an old lady and stole that iPhone, that's not beneficial....and is against what God would want them to do. But all they have to do is ask God's forgiveness, turn from that sin of stealing and beating up old ladies, and make things right with the old lady by apologizing....and God forgives them and restores them.

This is a simple explanation of what I'm talking about: http://www.matthiasmedia.com.au/2wtl/2wtlonline.html

Again, I am not a Fundamentalist like the WBC people. I am a Christian, but I don't agree with their practices of marching at funerals, being legalistic and downright hateful. But this particular thing that you're talking about is not wrong, so I wanted to explain why. Christians are taught to live as Christ did....loving, ministering, healing, praying for, and encouraging people - which is what I believe.

Hope this explained things.

Looking for a movie about an orphaned girl?

lizshouse8

I recall watching this movie year and years ago when I was probably between 6 and 8 years old (24 now) and I never knew what the name of it was but i've always wanted to see it again for some reason. Here is what I can remember.(before I begin, it's not "the secret garden" or "little princess"

The main thing I remember is the girl stayed in a mansion and it was snowy outside. The woman there was really mean to her and made her work in this (factory?) with other young girls. They were washing sheets in huge things of boiling water. She ended up getting burned by the water I think. I think I remember her going through a "secret door" in her bedroom to escape.

That's all I can really remember but it would be a much older movie (at least 14 years old since it's been at least that long since I saw it). If anyone has any hints please let me know!

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase (1989)
starring Stephanie Beacham
Amazon.com review of novel (cannot find movie synopsis):
Bonnie Green has lived in the lap of luxury in the manor house of Willoughby Chase in the English countryside. Her father, Sir Willoughby, is the richest man for five counties. There is much love in the house, both from her parents and the dedicated household workers. Because Lady Sophia has become ill, her parents are going on a sea voyage to restore her health. Sir Willoughby asks his attorney, Mr. Gripe, to locate a suitable governess, and he recommends one who is Bonnie's fourth cousin once removed, Miss Slighcarp, who arrives the night before the parents leave. To keep Bonnie company, Sir Willoughby has invited her cousin, Sylvia, to stay. Both will be tutored by Miss Slighcarp, who will run the estate. Sylvia is an orphan who has been living with Sir Willoughby's elderly sister, Aunt Jane. They have been barely surviving in genteel poverty, and Aunt Jane makes new clothes for the trip from her curtains. Sylvia has to make a journey by herself on the train. It is freezing cold, and wolves attack the train. One breaks the window and comes into the compartment. Fortunately, fellow passenger Mr. Grimshaw kills the wolf before it can do any damage. Later, he is injured, and Bonnie insists that they bring him to Willoughby Chase for the doctor to examine. As soon as Bonnie's parents leave, strange things start to happen. Most of the servants are dismissed, and Mr. Grimshaw and Miss Slighcarp begin looking through Sir Willoughby's papers, burning some. Miss Slighcarp also starts wearing Lady Sophia's best gowns. When Bonnie complains, she is locked in a closet with only bread and water for food. Worse treatment soon follows.

The film might vary from the novel, but this should provide enough details.

I need advice please.....?

Q. I currently work for a luxury hotel in downtown chicago. Recently i was called in for a meeting with my manager of my department as well as Dir. of engineering which in my hotel he plays the Dir. of security role (My department). I was asked a series of question regarding this guest i was helping and apparently i had spend more time that i needed to assisting the guest. My manager reviewed the cameras and i was observed showing her the property as well as assisting her in the business center (Please keep in mind that i work as overnight Security and that its not busy at all my job duties include walking of the property and assisting guest to the best of my ability) at times i perform other job duties especially working at night as a bellman and while showing this young lady to the Business center i offered to take her coat in which she agreed. I kept it professional at all times, as she stepped in the Elevator i placed my hand 1 inch away from her lower back (Not touching) the guest, my manager stated that i was seen steeping in the elevator with the guest also but i explained that she proceeded to go up to her room to retrieve some information she needed as i waiting out on the floor by the elevator. My manager stated that i was no where to be seen for 7 minutes ( No cameras on guest floors) the guest and i then were seen back on camera (No touching or any kind of contact) getting off the elevator and heading out the door yet on camera which has no audio the guest is asking me for the nearest store to purchase cigarettes as i'm exiting the building from the main entrance showing her directions. then he proceeded to ask me another series of question in regards to our employee entry card which is a hard card that we use to enter and exit our building apparently i don't use my card to exit the building but i do entering the building. I explained that as a security officer my job duties include patrolling the employee entrance as well as the perimeter. The original Director of Security quit our department a little less than a month ago, The hotel decided to promote from within the department and the Manager that is in charge now was a partner of mine along with six other guys (What I mean by partner is another Security officer with the same rank as me) all thru out my 5 months working there i noticed that he would say racist things like example " there is things coming up missing from the safe in our office you gotta watch those Puerto Ricans" he said this in front of another officer. and of course i'm the only Puerto rican working in our department, He then always proceeded to state that if he would be manager he would get rid of any security officer with experience because he says that Security with experience know this so called "Loop hole". Now i have been in the hotel industry for 10 years as a security officer. I have several times encountered other officers of Caucasian race explaining to me that our manager wants to get rid of me. I feel that he wants to get rid of me because i am Puerto Rican he asked me about the entry card and exiting the building without using it but yet i have witnessed other officers doing the same and no warnings were said to them (other caucasian officers) and while he became a manager he sends other Caucasian officers to get him coffee down the street and when they leave the building they dont even use the entry card to leave the property and they do this in front of him and all he says is keep the change and that they could've bought something for themselves, Now i was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation but yet i was not made clear on what investigation was being done i was not even made clear of what i was being investigated over, I could only assume based on the series of questioning that he provided. i have only received one form of documentation based on my tardiness in which i have not ben late for work again and when he provided this to me he explained that it was not a write up but yet a form of documentation describing that he did have a talk with me over my tardiness. I suppose to receive a call tomorrow from H.R department and im so worried because i dont know what to say or yet if they would even hear the side of my story, I feel like they have already made some decision but for what? for me doing my job? Please help me and guide me in any way. I very much appreciate your time honestly i cant sleep and im so stressed its been 3 long days.

Answer
When the H.R. department phones you, if it seems that they are not letting the situation go, be sure that you are given an opportunity to state your defense. Confidently state the details of the night in question. You must also state that you believe this is a personal attack from your supervisor because of the racist comments he has made in the past. Sometimes companies set up a separate private line for employees to file racial harassment reports if they are too uncomfortable reporting it to someone they work with. Say you would like to file a formal report and ask what your options are for filing one. Also, if he made the comments some time ago, be prepared to explain why you are now just coming forward (otherwise they may think that you're afraid of losing your job and that you're making something up to protect yourself). You might consider explaining that while you were initially willing to let the comments go unless they worsened, based on the current accusation, you fear that he is taking his racist mentality to the next level. If possible, get members from your team to serve as witnesses (request to set it up so they can do it anonymously, so they won't be scared that they will later be targeted by this supervisor). Be confident in your accusation against your supervisor and demand that your case is reviewed, most companies take such accusations very seriously (as they can sometimes be sued).

HYUNDAI TIBURON your opinion?

anonymous

what do you think?
pros and cons?
anything

Answer
The pro is that it is a Hyundai and the con is that it is a Hyundai. Hyundai is a ship builder, they transport 90% of the worlds freight. It is for this very reason, they have deep pockets giving them the ability to offer the Hyundai Assurance Program. Hyundai is a diverse company specializing in global commerce. Since their introduction to the world of automobiles this company has shown grit in building solid economy cars with a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty; now they have the audacity to challenge the world's best premium cars with a non-premium name.

Hyundai is based in South Korea, also the home of Samsung and LG TV. I would say South Korea has something to offer the world when it comes to manufacturing product as evidenced by their line of products, they can compete anywhere on the globe. The South Koreans are more technologically capable than most countries and have demonstrable best practices in manufacturing. This too spills over into automotive manufacturing.
The thing to watch with Hyundai, is to keep a close watch on the even level of manufacturing quality. What they have to do is establish quality controls, too. This would be benchmark workmanship which directly connects brand owner experience to perceived quality; much like the Apple brand is to computers, the Mercedes brand is to luxury cars, the Samsung brand is to cell phones and the LG brand has been to high definition television.

This automaker's design language is a little Lexus, a little Mercedes and a little Hyundai. The performance specs on the 08 and 09 model years are in line with the best in the business.
You will not have the prestige name plate, but you will definitely look the part for thousands of dollars less. Lexus pulled this same strategery on Mercedes and Cadillac in the late 80's early 90s. At the time, Toyota was not viewed as having the business acumen and marketing savvy to build a rival luxury car line, named Lexus. The Japanese snatched market share from their new rivals and laughed all the way to the bank. This is the same risk approach Hyundai is taking, minus the upscale name and reputation.

Recently Volkswagen tried to pull off a similar feat with the Phaeton. The Phaeton has Bentley bones and will be a collectors item, but it did not help the overall upscale efforts of Volkswagen. A valid question is this. Can Hyundai "that rhymes with Sunday" sale the buying public with a previous well known budget economy car name? This remains to be seen. Volkswagen could not pull it off.

How important is a name? Elijah Wood played Frodo Baggins in Lord of the Rings. He has been type cast as Frodo, to have a future as an actor on the silver screen, he must be perceived beyond his very frumpy flat foot character in Lord of the Rings. Despite his award winning performance as Frodo, Elijah Wood cannot suddenly be a convincing big screen comic book hero like, Spiderman. Will the Hyundai name be type cast as the venerable automotive equivalent of Frodo Baggins, the notable hobbit from Shire? If not, how can "Hyundai which rhymes with Sunday," make the market leap from being perceived as a mid level acceptable economy car manfacturer, to pursue the analogy, to a muscular premium brand that gives the market impression of a super hero?

Hyundai arguably is offering the best value in it's class of vehicles. The risk may be, just like every auto manufacturer in this tumultuous climate, will Hyundai be boom or bust. Hyundai has put their money where their mouth is with the Hyundai Assurance Program. A would say, they are a pretty good bet. Cheers.

What's the most you would be willing to pay for sunglasses ?

ffjfvjvfw

I was looking on the Oakley website, and I was thinking "wow, these are real expensive just for sunglasses!" Why are they so expensive ?

Answer
There's a lot of technology that goes in their glasses.

Oakley has the most patents of any eyewear/sunglasses manuf. out there (over 300 patents).

Oakley glasses (specifically the lenses) have been proven time and time again by both government and private labs to be the best Combination of clarity and strength out there. YOu can find glasses with better clarity, but often the strength (impact resistance) of the lens suffers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUoV-NqruDc I have yet to see ANY other manufacturer test their glasses like this, head to head with another brand.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEjcwvKH5FM
http://www.youtube.com/embed/lZuQunJ7GJA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_GL9XNjcBI

There's a reason why Oakley is one of the few manuf. of eye wear allowed by the US military to be worn in combat situations. Oakley has always considered it's glasses eye "protection", even the fashion glasses. https://secure.usstandardissue.com/Page.cfm?id=5

The facts speak for themselves.

Oakley's are expensive. Don't forget, they are considered a Luxury brand. You could ask the same question of Louis Vitton, Prada, Gucci, etc. Think about this, How much is your eyesight worth to you? $30? $40? $50? Priceless?

Consider this, a $20 pair of sunglasses from the gas station will provide you with UVA, UVB protection. Just like pair of Oakleys. However, they will not protect you from impacts. It may not be a bullet, but it could easily be a piece of gravel that a passing car kicks up while your walking to your car in the parking lot (has happened to me before). Shards of cheap polycarbonate cost a lot of money to remove from you eye. Gas station glasses do not provide UVC protection. As you wear cheap sunglasses remember, that your irises get bigger and will actually let in MORE non-visible light. Thus, you will be over exposing yourself to UVC rays, which, in the long run, causes eye damage. You would be better off NOT wearing sunglasses as your iris would get smaller, thereby letting in less light rays (visible or invisible).

How long can my skin keep the tan?

Rachel

I'm fair skinned and have been working on a tan for the past week and a half (and I'm being safe with plenty of sun screen and I have not gotten any sun burn) and I'm actually starting to notice color which is a big achievement :) and I'm going to the beach at the end of June and then right after the beach I am going to Pratt university in Brooklyn for an art college program and I will be gone for 4 weeks. If I continually use lotion and exfoliate my skin once a week.. Will I still have some of my color when I get back? I know I won't have all of it.. But I don't wanna be ghostly white and have to start all over :(

Answer
You're TRYING TO TAN but you're also using SUNSCREEN?

Sunscreen will not protect you from getting burned.

Sunscreen will only make your moles or freckles larger, bumpier & darker, if you have them already. Not just moles, but freckles, skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, Discoid Lupus, Bullous Pemphegoid, Lentigo (Google search them) and lentigines -- nearly always non-cancerous skin lesions

Sunscreen will not protect you from skin cancer.

Sunscreen will not protect you if you have allergies, I never thought I had allergies!

Sunscreens also discolor your skin - for ever!

Sunscreen blocks Vitamin D as well.

Many beauty & hair products now have LABEL INGREDIENTS and DISCLAIMERS, specially makeup, they are required to put labels so consumers are aware to watch for chemicals: DBP, TITANIUM, MERCURY, HYDROQUINONE, or Toluene solvent, that causes cancer or harm us. In other words, less is MORE.

Tanning comes & go, unless you do them everyday 24/7 for the rest of your life. But in the end the only thing you'll benefit is either moles, freckles, skin tags or discolorations from sunscreens, lotions, etc. and the more you do, the more they get larger, darker & bumpier. My nephew had a membership in a tanning bed salon for a year. After it expired, he stopped, now he's as white as before he began.

Now however, a recently published study suggests that those people with ginger hair and fair complexions face a much higher risk of developing dead skin cancer even if they are completely protected.

How long should I tan for?

Brooke

So it's summer and I was wondering how long I should tan for everyday without my skin starting to look leathery I don't burn easily at all! What do you guys think? Oh and what's a good self tanning lotion?

Too much sun and too much soaking in the tub or pool ARE SKIN'S worst enemies. With that said:

Moving to Kuwait in 2010?

Derricks A

My fiance, who is in the military, just found out today that he will be deployed to Kuwait in 2010. When I asked if I could follow he replied that he thought I couldn't because it is considered a "hot spot" and non-military wasn't allowed. I have read online and noticed that several American people (non-military) have recently moved over there and actually enjoy it. Do you think it is possible for me to move there too so that I can be closer to my soon-to-be husband? If so, what should I expect of Kuwait?

Answer
Kuwait city (the capital) is a very cosmopolitan city and a big one, for that matter! However if he is posted to one of the outskirts like the border with Iraq, it may not be the best place for you to live in. You could live and work in Kuwait city and meet with him over weekends, etc.

The conditions for women were not that great in Kuwait in the past, but now things have changed. They actively encourage foreigners to move and work there. You may be better off doing jobs that do not require interpersonal relations (like sales) because language and women in sales are still problems. Also you may have to watch your attire when you go out, drinking and smoking are not allowed (except in some luxury hotels), english movies are edited substantively and it gets really really hot! So, your call!

What should I know about car seats before I buy one?

chloe

I need a car seat for my 12month old (FAST) she 's really outgrown it. But I don't really know what to look for. What makes a good car seat? What should I watch out for? I went to buy one today, but there were so many, and the salesperson didn't know much. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Remember these rules:
1)the BEST seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. (This is why convenience features DO make a difference and ARE worth the money! If its easy to use, you're more likely to use it correctly.
2)Children should stay rear facing AS LNOG AS POSSIBLE!!!! The 20lbs/1 year rule is outdated and provides a bare minimum for turning kids forward facing. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration both recommend keeping kids rear facing as long as possible, up to the limits of their seat, preferably until at least 2 years of age. For good reason: A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 4 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age. A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone. In other countries, rear facing 2 - 3 - 4 year olds is standard, they understand that its safer. Here, we turn them as soon as we get to, seeing it as a right of passage thing or something. Ridiculous. Most convertible seats have a 30lbs rear facing limit, Cosco/Dorel/Safety1st/Eddie Bauer seats rear face to 35lbs, Britax rear faces to 33lbs.
3)Once you do turn them forward facing, they need to stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. 4 years/40lbs is the minimum for riding in a booster, and most 4 year olds have no business using one yet. If they can't sit upright for an entire trip, they need the harness of a car seat still. And, even if they do sit properly, a 5 point harness is safer, so you want to keep them in one as long as possible. This is important to consider b/c most car seats only forward face to 40lbs. My son just turned 3, and is in the 95th% for height and weight - 40" tall and weighs 41lbs. He outgrew the 40lbs seats shortly after his 2nd birthday. It was a total waste of money. He now has a Britax Marathon, which goes to 65lbs, and will be able to fit it for some time yet. If I'd have bought it when he was born, I could have had one car seat this whole time instead of the 3 I wasted money on. They are more expensive for many reasons, this is one.

So...knowing all that, here's some about specific seats. Please don't get a Graco Comfort Sport. Car seat techs call it the 'crappysport'. LOL Its a crappy seat that won't last your child very long b/c it has a really short shell. The straps twist all the time, and if they're twisted they won't support your child in a wreck properly. They're hard to install. There's nothing good about these seats except perhaps they're cheap sometimes. Ditto the Safety1st 3-in-1/Cosco Alpha Omega/Eddie Bauer 3-in1 seats. These are all the same company - same seat, just different covers. They stink. Hard to install, b/c of narrow belt paths. Ever tried to wash a skinny cup by hand? Now imagine that skinny cup with pointy edges. That's what putting your hand through these to install them is like. AND they have too short a shell to really go to 40lbs. And they do not make good boosters. Also, most kids have to use boosters until they're at least 8 years old. Car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture, so no matter what they say it is NOT the last seat you'll ever need to buy.

The Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathalon (These 3 are the same seat, just different variances of luxury additions, with the Marathon being the cheapest base model) can be found for regular price of $269, and on sale at Albee Baby online for $209-$219. The Marathon a wide open easy to route belt path, which makes using it correctly a lot easier, as do the built in lockoffs, which mean you never again have to use a locking clip. I can get it into 4 different vehicles in under 2 minutes. Because of the way the base is made, it fits in most cars. And, it is worth the money, b/c it lasts usually twice as long as most other car seats (all car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture) lasting a baby till they are 5-6 years old, where most at Walmart will only last till 2-4 years old. Rear faces to 33lbs, then forward to 65lbs. and top slots 17inches tall, lasts most kids to ages 5-6 years old.

The Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the original Triumph, make sure it says Advance) is a great seat. $150 version at Babies R Us has padding similar to Britax seats, top slots of 17", harnesses to 35lbs rear facing, and 50lbs forward facing. $120 Walmart version just has little less plush padding. Wide open belt path, easy to install, though it doesn't have built in lockoffs. The harness adjusts at the front of the car seat, you don't have to take the car seat out of the car just to raise/lower the straps. It's one of only 2 seats that does this (The Britax Boulevard is the other, I believE), and it has infinite harness adjustment so the harness always fits perfectly until its outgrown. No more tugging straps to tighten them either. You tighten and loosen the harness using knobs on the side of the seat. As a major bonus, it can be used in a recline position even in forward facing mode. Awesome for kids who still sleep in the car. I LOVE THIS SEAT! LOL My son, who is too big for every other car seat at Walmart has the same amount of room in this as the Britax Marathon.

The Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe Convertible seat is great, it is made by Britax, without all the frills. It's the same shell as a Marathon, but for less than half the price. $130 at Albee Baby online with free shipping, or at their eBay name, babysurplus. Rear faces to 33lbs, forward to 55lbs. Easy to use, fits in most cars.

These are the best you can buy that will give you the most bang for your buck. As a single parent I'm always watching the budget - I have no money to speak of, and these are what I would buy. (My son has a marathon and is soon getting a Britax Regent). They will last the longest. I only wish someone would've told me all this before I had him, I coulda saved some money for the extra seats I started out with!

All seats in the US must meet the same safety criteria to sell, so technically they all are safe, however, if its hard to install, then it won't be used correctly and that makes it unsafe. Also, they only must meet the guidelines, some seats barely pass, some exceed them. Britax exceeds the guidelines and is easy to use.

What are some of the best watch brands for women?

birthday gift:)

Answer
An elegant luxury watch is always the best gift, I'm sure. No woman can resist a diamond encrusted designer's watch. (I don't want to promote any brand ). Or just any expensive one. (That is if you're not on a tight budget). I would like to answer your question without citing any brand name. I'll just give you some tips to decide in buying a luxury watch. First, consider her personal style; the watch should reflect her personality. Next, her activities, does she need that watch for everyday use? Then, her personal taste--that you should know. Now, you must decide which type of watch to buy--mechanical that needs winding, kinetic that requires little maintenance or battery powered? Of course, the price and quality is always a consideration. But if you want to make an impression, go for the limited edition. If you don't have that much savings, I'll tell you something--there are replica watches you can choose for(Chinese, Japanese and Swiss replicas). But go for Swiss grade replica, they may cost you around $1000, not cheap but they are made from precious and semi-precious materials like gold and diamond. They can even be the exact copy of the original branded watch including the materials and mechanism, many watchmakers wouldn't able to tell the difference--including your girlfriend.

Anyway, it's the thought that matters most. Any gift will always be appreciated if it comes from someone who truly love. If you are still indecisive, just check the link below for additional tips.

Which brands and types of male watches are appropriate for business?

Rummy Sam

I'd like to buy my boyfriend a nice watch for Christmas. While I'm primarily looking for something he could use at the office (he works in a major personal wealth financial firm), it would be nice if the watch was a bit versatile as to be appropriate in casual situations as well. But this watch will be primarily used for work, where it's paramount that the watch be fashionable and appropriate. I'm looking to spend no more than $350.

I need to know:
1. Which types of watches are appropriate for businessmen, and would work well in casual settings too? (leather bands? metal bands? thick or thin? Chronograph? etc.)
2. Which brands are considered business appropriate? (Armani? CK? Hugo Boss? Lacoste? D&G?)

I'm a bit partial to some of these below, are any of these appropriate?

I need as detailed a response as possible as I know almost nothing about watches or finance culture. Thanks a bunch!

Answer
If your boyfriend is an I-Banker or works with clients at any time during his work day, I would recommend sticking to actual watchmakers. To explain, while these watches look nice and look good, they are what are called "fashion watches." These watches are only designed and then licensed by Armani, Burberry etc... (And fun fact.. FOSSIL actually makes most of the watches you listed... basically those Burberry, Armani, Michael Kors watches are fancy looking Fossil watches (see wiki link below).

Examples of luxury watchmakers are your Rolexes, Omegas, Tag Heuers, IWC, etc... and the list goes on... a Patek Philippe chronograph will set you back $150,000 to put it in perspective. But seriously, few of us have the means to even drop a $1000 for a watch. While I imagine some of your boyfriend's clients may be sporting car-priced timepieces on their wrists, there are definitely quality watches in the $350 range.

For the price range you gave, I would look into Citizen, Seiko and Tissot. These are excellent watchmakers and their watches are extremely reliable and well made. The Citizen Eco-Drive for instance is one of the best quartz watches on the market. When investing in a quality watch or product in general, a good thing to look for is a company that specializes in doing what they do. I would leave Hugo Boss to men's suiting rather than fine watches.

Stick with a stainless steel face and a brown strap. This is timeless and can be dressed up or down. Black leather strap watches (while black 'goes' with everythings) can look too dressy. Stick with a watch face between 38mm - 42mm. (see the Tissot link below)

Hope this helps!

Rolex or Hublot watch?

Yonkers

Which watch do you think is more class/stylish/expensive and just well better? Which do you prefer and why?

Answer
Some answers here are too subjective and give no reasons for their choices. Let's look at these two brands as objectively as possible by comparing some data about them that I find in my many watch magazines and almanacs. You can then have some basis for forming your own opinion.
HISTORY
Hans Wilsdorf began making watches in 1905. In 1908, he began using the name Rolex on his watches. The derivation of that name is uncertain.
Carlo Crocco founded Hublot in 1980. "Hublot" is French for "porthole" that the bezel resembles with its screws. Jean-Claude Biver who revived Blancpain in 1982 moved to Hublot in 2004 to become CEO.
EMPLOYEES & PRODUCTION
Rolex has over 2000 workers who produce almost 1,000,000 watches each year lately.
Hublot has about 150 workers who make 24,000 watches annually.
COLLECTIONS
Rolex offers mainly "Oyster Perpetual" automatic water-resistant sports watches and some "Cellini" dress watches.
Hublot offers "Classic", "Big Bang" and "King" lines.
MONEY SPENT ON ADS IN THE USA IN 2007
Rolex spent much more than any other company, i.e. $47,100,000. Breitling was a not so close second with $27,070,000. Hublot was 18th with $5,280,000 spent.
BASIC SPORTS WATCHES
$6300Sb, $9950S&Rb Rolex "O.P. Datejust" 4fa
$6900S, $10,900S&R Hublot "Classic Fusion" 4fa
DEEP DIVING WATCHES
$10,650Sb Rolex "O.P. Sea Dweller Deep Sea" 4fa 3900 meter diver
$19,000T Hublot "King Power Diver" 4fa 4000 meter diver
GOLD CHRONOGRAPHS
$27,650R Rolex "O.P. Cosmograph Daytona" 3fa-C (also $34,700Rb)
$27,900R Hublot "Classic Fusion Chrono" 4fa-C
MOST COMPLICATED MODELS
$27,650R Rolex "O.P. Cosmograph Daytona" 3fa-C (listed under Chronographs)
$375,000R&CF Hublot "King Power" 3fm-MR-T-C
SECOND MOST COMPLICATED MODELS
$25,150S&Rb Rolex "O.P. Yacht-Master II" 3fa with yacht regatta countdown
$195,000Z Hublot "King Power" 3fm-T-C
Well, what do you think? I say that Rolex is "hyped". Everyone hears about about it, since it spends far more money on ads than any other brand. It's not the costliest nor the best brand. My Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin dress watches cost over 3.5 times as much as a comparable Rolex, and they're worth it. The production figures show Rolex is mass-produced with each employee making 500 watches per year. Each Hublot employee produces 160 watches per year and thus works 3.125 times as long on each watch. Patek and Vacheron spend even more time on each watch. Rolex is hardly a major brand when it makes no watch more complicated than a chronograph. The most complicated wriswatch of all is Franck Muller's "Aeternitas Mega 4" -GS-MR-T-PC-CR with 1483 parts that costs $2,666,700P in 2012. I have written five editions of a book about "THE COSTLIEST WATCH BRANDS". Rolex places 46th costliest in 2012. It seems that Rolex is vastly over-rated. The top watch aficianados aren't impressed by it. I bought two Rolexes soon after I graduated from college, but now, I wear Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget, Cartier, IWC, Patek and Vacheron more often.
EDIT: Hasan is wrong to say Rolex is the best watch. It's good but not great. I own two Rolexes, but some of my other watches I've listed are better by far. A Jeager-LeCoultre "Master" sports watch is severely tested for 1000 hours while 1.4 Rolexes are made each day. Rolex is what I consider a bottom line Luxury Brand, since it's so much cheaper than the costliest brands. Lee Cameron a San Francisco watch repairman I know well likes Omega better than Rolex. Repairman Rolf Klotz from Germany also likes Omega very well.

High school level home school programs?

brendalee8

where is the best places offered on the Internet for High School academic programs that are not christian in base

Answer
Completing High School Independently

Below is a checklist to help you get started homeschooling your high school student. If you are brand-new to homeschooling, please read about the basics of getting started first.

* Create a list of objectives (see a sample objective) for the year. These include topics and activities that you will do as required to graduate (see your state's laws).
* Follow your objectives closely. Have your student keep good records in a logbook and create a portfolio of their best work. The portfolio should include self-tests taken, samples of math problems and science experiments they have done, artwork, writings, etc. The logbook should be consise. It is used to document daily activities and other things that the portfolio does not cover such as field trips, reading a book, watching an educational video, etc.
* At the end of the year get together with a certified teacher and have them go over your student's logbook and portfolio. Either you (the parent) or the certified teacher may create a transcript showing that the student has completed the requirements to graduate. This is important if your student plans on going to college (read The Homeschooler's Guide to Portfolios and Transcripts). Many homeschool students can obtain an official diploma and official credits for their work by going through a private/public school program such as North Atlantic Regional Schools. If your student is thinking about going to college, read our advice on this topic.
