Rolex or Hublot watch?

Yonkers

Which watch do you think is more class/stylish/expensive and just well better? Which do you prefer and why?

Answer
Some answers here are too subjective and give no reasons for their choices. Let's look at these two brands as objectively as possible by comparing some data about them that I find in my many watch magazines and almanacs. You can then have some basis for forming your own opinion.
HISTORY
Hans Wilsdorf began making watches in 1905. In 1908, he began using the name Rolex on his watches. The derivation of that name is uncertain.
Carlo Crocco founded Hublot in 1980. "Hublot" is French for "porthole" that the bezel resembles with its screws. Jean-Claude Biver who revived Blancpain in 1982 moved to Hublot in 2004 to become CEO.
EMPLOYEES & PRODUCTION
Rolex has over 2000 workers who produce almost 1,000,000 watches each year lately.
Hublot has about 150 workers who make 24,000 watches annually.
COLLECTIONS
Rolex offers mainly "Oyster Perpetual" automatic water-resistant sports watches and some "Cellini" dress watches.
Hublot offers "Classic", "Big Bang" and "King" lines.
MONEY SPENT ON ADS IN THE USA IN 2007
Rolex spent much more than any other company, i.e. $47,100,000. Breitling was a not so close second with $27,070,000. Hublot was 18th with $5,280,000 spent.
BASIC SPORTS WATCHES
$6300Sb, $9950S&Rb Rolex "O.P. Datejust" 4fa
$6900S, $10,900S&R Hublot "Classic Fusion" 4fa
DEEP DIVING WATCHES
$10,650Sb Rolex "O.P. Sea Dweller Deep Sea" 4fa 3900 meter diver
$19,000T Hublot "King Power Diver" 4fa 4000 meter diver
GOLD CHRONOGRAPHS
$27,650R Rolex "O.P. Cosmograph Daytona" 3fa-C (also $34,700Rb)
$27,900R Hublot "Classic Fusion Chrono" 4fa-C
MOST COMPLICATED MODELS
$27,650R Rolex "O.P. Cosmograph Daytona" 3fa-C (listed under Chronographs)
$375,000R&CF Hublot "King Power" 3fm-MR-T-C
SECOND MOST COMPLICATED MODELS
$25,150S&Rb Rolex "O.P. Yacht-Master II" 3fa with yacht regatta countdown
$195,000Z Hublot "King Power" 3fm-T-C
Well, what do you think? I say that Rolex is "hyped". Everyone hears about about it, since it spends far more money on ads than any other brand. It's not the costliest nor the best brand. My Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin dress watches cost over 3.5 times as much as a comparable Rolex, and they're worth it. The production figures show Rolex is mass-produced with each employee making 500 watches per year. Each Hublot employee produces 160 watches per year and thus works 3.125 times as long on each watch. Patek and Vacheron spend even more time on each watch. Rolex is hardly a major brand when it makes no watch more complicated than a chronograph. The most complicated wriswatch of all is Franck Muller's "Aeternitas Mega 4" -GS-MR-T-PC-CR with 1483 parts that costs $2,666,700P in 2012. I have written five editions of a book about "THE COSTLIEST WATCH BRANDS". Rolex places 46th costliest in 2012. It seems that Rolex is vastly over-rated. The top watch aficianados aren't impressed by it. I bought two Rolexes soon after I graduated from college, but now, I wear Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget, Cartier, IWC, Patek and Vacheron more often.
EDIT: Hasan is wrong to say Rolex is the best watch. It's good but not great. I own two Rolexes, but some of my other watches I've listed are better by far. A Jeager-LeCoultre "Master" sports watch is severely tested for 1000 hours while 1.4 Rolexes are made each day. Rolex is what I consider a bottom line Luxury Brand, since it's so much cheaper than the costliest brands. Lee Cameron a San Francisco watch repairman I know well likes Omega better than Rolex. Repairman Rolf Klotz from Germany also likes Omega very well.

Who has the best selection of ladies luxury watches in San Diego?

bonniej

Answer
There are following links to a couple of websites to try, and I suggest them both because none seems to carry what I would consider the full spectrum. Maybe it would be worth the drive up to LA for a better selection?

what is the value of a BAUME & MERCIER watch?

mark h

it has roman numerals...it has the day feature...it has a hexagonical style face...it is 50m water resistant..it also says "riviera" above the six...it has a metal band

Answer
It really depends on the style and the condition of the watch. It ranges from $1k to couple thousands depending on the embellishments (diamonds/ gold, etc).
I would take it to a local jeweler that deals with luxury watches to get a more accurate appraisal.

Im thinking of getting a movado watch for my wife's b-day is that a good present? is it a luxury watch?

tommy

I would spend up to $1000 or a little more if nesscesary

Answer
Does she like expensive jewelry??? Does she wear a watch??? Personally, I wouldn't find value in a $1K watch (the one I got for $18 tells time just fine, and is real cute) so it wouldn't suit just any woman...you know her, so you should know what she likes...I've never heard of that brand, so can't say if it's a good brand or not (but IMO, no watch is worth that much)...

What are some prestigious brand names of men's watches?

Hannibal

Im shopping for a watch and i was wondering what brand name to buy. I want it to be an "impressive" brand name. Like Rolex. But Rolex is just too expensive. What famous prestigious brand names are out there. Like the Benz or Lexus of watches. If the style makes a difference then im looking for a stainless steel shiny watch thats big.

Ive seen a Charles Jourdan... I dont know if thats any good.

Answer
The following site has alot of mens watches in all price ranges. America is a brand oriented culture. Lots of people know names like Rolex, Tag Heuer, Tissot and Omega, less know of brands like IWC and Jaeger LeCoultre. I tend to buy watch brands that few people know of and I get alot of compliments on them. I've even had people with $10k watches take note and compliment watches that cost less then $1000.

If you want brand name recognition, got with Rolex, Tag Heuer, Tissot, or Omega. But browse through the site below, you should find lots of great prices on luxury watches as well as come across brands you never heard of.

Car enthusiasts or experts? Luxury/racing question?

I was curious if anybody knew of a website that gives brands of luxury cars and performance racing cars and a brief overview of them?
If not, would anybody be able to give me a list of luxury and racing cars (Audi, Benz, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Peugeot, etc.) And give me their take on them? Like, just a brief overview of the manufacturer, if they're overpriced, if they're not well built, you know, general stuff.
EX: Lamborghini; Italian made since 1960s, competes in F1 racing, way overpriced
(I don't know if most of that is true, but I mean just an example like that)

I need some help with my baby list.?

highschool

I need a LIST of all the things I should have for my baby in 6 months. Please and thanks.

Answer
-Car seat
-Stroller
-Diapers (For my kids, Target brand holds in the leakage at night the best) Start with 1 box of Newborn size, 2-4 boxes size 1, 2-4 boxes size 2. Open just one box at a time and if baby outgrows a size, you can always exchange unopened boxes for different size and brand
-Wipes (We love Walmart brand wipes)
-Crib or Pack and Play (Basically a place for baby to sleep; a bassinet is more of a luxury because babies outgrow them pretty quickly)
-Bedding
-Onsies (start with about 6-9 newborn size, 6-9 zero to three months size, 6-9 three to six months size) You can always buy more as needed
Sleep and Play sleepers, (for my kids, I personally preferred cotton ones with zipper instead of snaps)
-Socks
-Hats (Newborns need to wear light cotton hat for the first month of their life because the head is where they lose most of the heat from)
-Cotton pants (2-4 newborn size, the rest bigger sizes) Walmart sells great pants, I think they are Faded Glory, that are cotton and skinny at the bottom, which is great, especially for a newborn baby, you can put socks over pants and layer with another set of clothes on top if it is cold, or for summer nights, these pants donât expose babyâs legs as much as regular pants do, which you donât want when it is cold
-Cotton sweater (one newborn size, the rest bigger sizes, babies do grow fast)
- Receiving Blankets (get as much as you can) I use them as towels after giving baby a bath, swaddling, diaper changing cover, etc.
- Swing
- Bathtub ( I love our Fisher Price Whale tub, both my boys fit in it from newborn, and my older son is 22 months old and he can still fit into it)
- Shampoo and Body wash
-Grooming kit (make sure it includes a thermometer)
-Nasal aspirator (Nosefrida one is by far the only aspirator that works for my boys)
-Washcloths
-Medicine kit (saline drops, gas drops, gripe water, Ibuprofen, etc)
-Humidifier of Vaporizer ( I personally prefer Vaporizer when my kids are sick it seems to help better)
-Breastfeeding pillow (Like Boppy, can also be used to prop baby up, or during tummy time)
-Nipple cream
- Double electric breast pump
-Bottles (On occasions like when someone else will be watching the baby, you want to pump and give baby bottle)
- Formula (If formula feeding)
-Bottle drying rack
-Formula Dispenser (If formula feeding)
-Diaper Bag (although a big purse with lots of pockets and compartments will do)
- Diaper scented trash bags (great to keep stink at bay, as well as when you are out and there is no trash can)
-Toys
-Play mat
-For later : High chair, jumperoo or exersaucer)

Heres the question; What is the best way to get revenge on a cheating boyfriend??

Q. I was engaged to a man (we will call him Retardo) he was the perfect one so I thought... anyways he gave me his email password and told me to keep track of his things cause he's military, so in doing so I seen where he had ordered flowers and sent them to another woman... When I questioned him he denied he loved her then left me for her Now I want my revenge!!!

Answer
1.Got the victims address? send them A note supposedly from a real doctor at your local hospital. the letter should be about that a patient who has contracted the aids virus has named you as a past sexual partner please contact me (give doctors nameat the end) at (hospital name and number) in two days so that I can make arrangements for a blood test. This will drive them nuts untill they actually call.

2. if you can bring yourself to do it. obviously a sleezy guy. set up a camera. lure him to you. sleep with him and send it to her...or find a way into his house or car and plant false evidence of him doing the same to her.

3. Revenge story"We purchased a bright white vibrator and made sure to fill it with fresh Duracell's. We followed him to a largely crowded supermarket one evening. While he was in the store we quickly super glued the running (full blast) vibrator to the hood of his shiny, new, black, luxury car.

After watching the faces of every soul leaving the parking lot, (which was worth it alone) he came out of the market. When he saw the vibrator, he stood frozen with shock. He was too afraid to touch the thing and was quite puzzled at what to do. He tried hitting it off with a loaf of bread, but to no avail. After being stared at by dozens of exiting customers, he decided to make a quick get away.

He was forced to drive about two miles home with the vibrating vibrator. It was classic and unforgettable!!"

4) Make a bumper sticker that says something to the nature of "white power, Jesus is dead, anything about weed smoking for the cops, KKK rules...ect" I wonder how long they would drive around before they figure out it is there???

5) If you know their phone number.... Make a fake screen name online with a gay profile and go to a gay chat room for your area. Flirt with as many gay men as you can and tell them to call you. You can E-mail too!!!!! ; ) If you are brave, go to a gar bar and leave their number and name in the bathroom. "Shy closet case-call me...."

Is there anything about the Chrysler Superbowl ad that is remotely offensive to you?

Tink

I saw it for the first time this today - it was mentioned in a news story so I looked it up...

And I can love the idea that Chrysler spent that much bank for a two minute Superbowl ad about this place (Ford and GM sure didn't) and that they used "the local talent" in it...but once I get past the initial "let's hear it for the spirit of Detroit" feeling, I'm kind of bugged by it...

I can get past that they used a few select shots near the courthouse and Woodward to represent all of Detroit...that would be expected...I don't know how to phrase it, but watch it a few more times and see if there isn't something that rubs you the wrong way in the verbiage. I just wondered what others thought....

Be well

I appreciate ALL of the comments ~ I'm really wondering about the breadth of opinions.

Answer
*climbing onto the soapbox*

I found nothing offensive about that ad, the intent, or the production behind it. I found it inspiring. As a suburban resident who has visited many other functional cities, we in the metro Detroit area -- city and suburbs together -- have been dysfunctional for too long.

Part of that comes from the passive-aggressive "8 Mile Border" mentality that we all share. Those in the city simultaneously cry about less than ideal conditions within the city borders, but then decry those of us out in the suburbs who dare to make our opinions about the city known, saying that we don't live there so our opinions are therefore invalid. And those of us in the suburbs are quick to dismiss the city as a cesspool that should just be swept clean with fire.

Part of this also comes from the short-sighted, short-term-fix myopia that resists spending money in directions that don't seem to have short-term solutions. We cry for quick fixes without stopping to look further down the road to see the effects in the big picture.

This Chrysler ad addressed all of that. Detroit was once one of the crown jewels of the midwest, competing with Chicago in the early/mid 20th Century. Look at some of the historic exhibits at the Ford Museum or Detroit Historical Museum and you'll see what kind of idyllic life we had here 50-100 years ago. Then the '60s and '70s happened, and we in this region have struggled to recover ever since. The Big Three had a lot to do with preventing this area from moving forward along with the rest of the country and it took this economic meltdown to show them how antiquated their methods were. By assuming that there is a race/class war going on, we actually CREATE that race or class war ourselves.

That Chrysler is owned by foreign interests is irrelevant. What's relevant is that WORKERS have jobs and get paychecks and can turn around and spend that money here. The men and women on the lines in the plants assembling the cars are what's important. When they make the money, they demand products and services. When the cars are built here -- whether it's an Italian Chrysler, a Mexican Chevy, or a Tennessee Honda -- local suppliers are tapped for parts. Local services are tapped for uniforms and cleaning services. Local restaurants and bars serve lunch.

Creating demand for products and services is what we should be doing, not the political soundbites of "creating jobs." What's the use of a job if there is no demand for the product it's creating?

The Sebring (and now 200) may not be a "luxury car" in the classic sense, but consider that the Chrysler brand is more on the high-end than, say, Dodge or Jeep. Chrysler brand is akin to Buick for GM and Mercury for Ford (despite Mercury's impending death) -- the upscale versions of the every-man cars that Dodge, Chevy, and Ford brands cover.

That part of the message said that Detroit isn't just coney dogs and Vernors. We do actually know about the finer things in life. Just that our reputation doesn't make that clear to the rest of the world.

------------------------

TL;DR: it was a cool ad and said the right things.

I am interested in getting a luxury watch and need help?

lucinda

I am just now getting into the watch game and I do not want to spend a lot of money on a bs watch. I want to spend around $1000-$1500 on a nice luxury watch with diamonds and at least 18k gold. I'm looking at Movado, but I do not know if they are a good brand or not. I know Rolex is the best but I do not have the cash flow for that. If you guys could fill me in on anything it would be appreciated! I'm looking for well known respected brands that are not all show, but have some quality to them also, Thanks again

Answer
Movado is an excellent watch brand. Rolex is a better watch brand. If you want to talk about "the best," though, you're looking at Patek Phillippe and similar brands--some of these watches go for millions.

The bottom of this website includes rankings of major watch brands: http://www.chronocentric.com/watches/brands.shtml. Besides Movado, you may want to look at Baume & Mercier. Movado's really a very unique look, though, so if you like Movado, I'm not sure you'll like the other luxury watch brands at a similar level.

which watch should i buy, seiko or coach?

mastaj121

debating on buying a seiko or a coach watch... coach is considered luxury but seiko are well known for watches. Also seiko has been around for awhile so they would know more about watches. but being materialistic, coach is luxury and seiko has watches that start off in the 30's. The seiko watch im looking at is 400 retail price, titanium band. The Coach is also 400 retail price but it's stainless steel....
Seiko
http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-Grand-Sport-Titanium-SLC033/dp/B0007N543S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=jewelry&qid=1195924086&sr=1-3

Coach
http://www.amazon.com/Coach-Waches-Movado-Collection-Stainless/dp/B000W03D52/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&s=jewelry&qid=1195921830&sr=1-30

Answer
Depends what you want
If style and brand name is important to you then go with the Coach. But Coach's speciality isn't watches so the quality of it is questionable.

If you want a watch you can rely on then Seiko. But they won't have the same style and look as the coach watch.

So it depends! Good luck picking though!

(I'm sure both are good watches so no worries!)

Are gucci watches good quality? Or should I wait to buy another one?

.

I can't afford Cartier, Montblanc or Baume et Mercier right now (their watches start at around 2,000 which is twice what I can afford) but I saw this really beautiful Gucci watch at gucci yesterday. It was stainless and had little diamonds instead of the numbers, it was a little over 1,000$. Are gucci watches good quality? Or should I save more money to buy one from the top brands?
Thanks!

Answer
Save the money. Im a big fan of gucci and I can tell you that their watches are only expensive because of the brand name. Cartier (not so good imo, but definetely on the luxury range), and these kind of brands have their own mechanical movement. Im not sure who makes Gucci watches for them, but for sure they don't (kinda like the same with burberry watches, theyre made by Fossil). Get a used one if you cant afford it. Look for cartiers in the 1k range on eBay AND MAKE SURE THE BUYER HAS A REPUTABLE FEEDBACK AND A RETURN POLICY (this just proves that they are authentic, and just in case, you might get it checked before the return policy expires).

I'm 19 and i'm very pale, lately i've started to notice that i have a lot of body hair like on my stomach and back, i know it's natural but i feel unattractive because of it and the fact that not all of it is blonde. What can i do about it?
I also have very sensitive skin so stuff like nair gives me allergic reactions.

What Men Want: Teeth More Important Than Hair, Clothes In Match.com Survey 2-7-13
The online dating site conducted a three-year study of over 5,000 single men and women and came up with a list of the top 10 things men judge women on. The least surprising news? Over half of the list was appearance-based. It makes sense -- women have seemed to adjust their getting-ready times accordingly, devoting 136 full days of their lives primping and preening for a night out, according to another 2008 survey.

EXAMPLE OF ONE FROM YA Poster, who've tried everything. . .
-WAXING: the wax usually irritates my sensitive skin. I used an organic wax once and it worked out much better than the regular one I used but it still didn't stop my skin from getting red & irritated.
-THREADING: this is an option that isn't as bad as the other things I have used. But I prefer not to do it unless it really is the only other option I have.
-SMOOTHAWAY: this is the little pink hair removing applicator. If you're not familiar with it, look it up on Google and you might get an idea as to what it is. I use Smoothaway when I don't have another option. But more often than not it irritates my skin and my skin turns red on the sides of my upper lip. And it makes it worse when I try to put my face lotion on.
-HAIR REMOVING CREAM: I used this a few times but this irritates my skin more than anything else I have ever used. My skin turns red and all that....

GLAMOUR magazine's monthly man survey March 2013:
1. You hook up with a woman you like a lot, but she has a few days' worth of stubble on her legs. Is there a future here?
Sure. 61% of guys do't care about leg stubble.
Nope. 15%
24% only if there's an explanation, like a citywide razor shortage.

No one looks forward to their hair removal routine, regardless of what it is. Each option comes attached to its unique drawbacks. Shaving is terribly time-consuming and has to be repeated daily in order to achieve best results. Waxing is painful while hair removal creams can be smelly and irritating to the skin. Electrolysis is effective and near-permanent⦠but it's also expensive to the point of being outside of the average person's budget. There is NOTHING PERMANENT, not even laser. Once you stopped? How long can my skin keep the tan?

Rachel

I'm fair skinned and have been working on a tan for the past week and a half (and I'm being safe with plenty of sun screen and I have not gotten any sun burn) and I'm actually starting to notice color which is a big achievement :) and I'm going to the beach at the end of June and then right after the beach I am going to Pratt university in Brooklyn for an art college program and I will be gone for 4 weeks. If I continually use lotion and exfoliate my skin once a week.. Will I still have some of my color when I get back? I know I won't have all of it.. But I don't wanna be ghostly white and have to start all over :(

Answer
You're TRYING TO TAN but you're also using SUNSCREEN?

Sunscreen will not protect you from getting burned.

Sunscreen will only make your moles or freckles larger, bumpier & darker, if you have them already. Not just moles, but freckles, skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, Discoid Lupus, Bullous Pemphegoid, Lentigo (Google search them) and lentigines -- nearly always non-cancerous skin lesions

Sunscreen will not protect you from skin cancer.

Sunscreen will not protect you if you have allergies, I never thought I had allergies!

Sunscreens also discolor your skin - for ever!

Sunscreen blocks Vitamin D as well.

Many beauty & hair products now have LABEL INGREDIENTS and DISCLAIMERS, specially makeup, they are required to put labels so consumers are aware to watch for chemicals: DBP, TITANIUM, MERCURY, HYDROQUINONE, or Toluene solvent, that causes cancer or harm us. In other words, less is MORE.

Tanning comes & go, unless you do them everyday 24/7 for the rest of your life. But in the end the only thing you'll benefit is either moles, freckles, skin tags or discolorations from sunscreens, lotions, etc. and the more you do, the more they get larger, darker & bumpier. My nephew had a membership in a tanning bed salon for a year. After it expired, he stopped, now he's as white as before he began.

Tanning, is a result for 'damaged skin' and no products can reverse you from skin cancer or damaged skin, may prevent you from pre-mature aging, but that's part of the billion dollar beauty industry.
A new study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology has found that tanning bed exposure can be dangerous when tanners self-diagnose skin problems and use the radiation to treat skin eruptions. The study specifically found that a tanning bed user that used the radiation to treat a mild skin rash caused by an ibuprofen allergy developed a much more severe reaction called toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). When left untreated, TEN can be fatal.
Melanoma is the leading cause of death from skin disease. An estimated 76,259 new cases of skin cancer will be reported particularly among women in their 20's & 30's, and that's 6,020 more than 2011, people died from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute. Two million people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the US each year, according to the EPA's Sun-Wise Program. That's more than breast, colon, lung and prostate cancer cases combine! Now however, a recently published study suggests that those people with ginger hair and fair complexions face a much higher risk of developing dead skin cancer even if they are completely protected.

Answer
Did you say you're PALE? To get the level of SPF you see on the label, you have to spread the lotion on like a layer of vanilla frosting; that's the thickness used in Food & Drug Administration tests. "So your SPF 30 is really a 10." says Steven Q Wang, M.D. director of dermatologic surgery and dermatology @ Memorial Sloan-Ketterng Cancer Center in Basking Ridge, NJ and author of Beating Melanoma. So don't skim: Frost that cupcake@"

Best protection is wearing DENIM clothing, or a wide brim hat, but better yet, an umbrella.
Lotions does not protect you from nasty, painful burns. Lotions does not protect you from skin cancer. Lotions does not protect you from skin diseases. Lotions does not protect you from discolorations - permanently. And lotions does not protect you from skin tags, freckles, moles, they will only get larger, darker, and bumpier as they are exposed from UV.

She had 2-3 melanoma moles removed, one by her nose. She had nose surgery just to get her nose straighter, so she can breath again. She got those moles from a tanning bed.

I've been protecting myself from the sun since I was 9.

1. Because I don't want to look like a farmer.
2. Because I get too hot.
3. I want to look like movie stars & models, they have blemish-free skins.
4. I don't want to look like an old prune or get moles on my neck & face like my aunts.

No matter, I still got Discoid Lupus (Google it), caused from the sun. It took 12 years for them to fade. Tried all kinds of lotions that were prescribed to me, and none of them worked. More & more now I protect myself and I take my wide brim hat everywhere I go, or use an umbrella. In Asia, they use umbrella all the time. Here in the States, people started to catch on, and I see people walking w/umbrella, they are used on the beach, and they sell patio umbrellas. It was invented for a reason and also to protect us from getting skin cancer.

The sun is more powerful than most people think!

Now however, a recently published study suggests that those people with ginger hair and fair complexions face a much higher risk of developing dead skin cancer even if they are completely protected.
