just need help in picking a good car seat. i know i have asked the question all ready about brands. Just want pros and cons of this brand now. Thanks all

Answer
Not a good choice - even though Babies R Us pushes these seats hard and as a result you see them in every vehicle. UGH! the Safety1st 3-in-1/Cosco Alpha Omega/Eddie Bauer 3-in1 seats. These are all the same company - same seat, just different covers. They stink. Hard to install, b/c of narrow belt paths. Ever tried to wash a skinny cup by hand? Now imagine that skinny cup with pointy edges. That's what putting your hand through these to install them is like. AND they have too short a shell to really go to 40lbs. And they do not make good boosters. Also, most kids have to use boosters until they're at least 8 years old. Car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture, so no matter what they say it is NOT the last seat you'll ever need to buy. And the straps twist up all the time, and if the straps are twisted its not safe to use so you spend lots of time untwisting the straps. Worst buy for the money. There are much better ways to spend $150+.

The Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathalon (These 3 are the same seat, just different variances of luxury additions, with the Marathon being the cheapest base model) can be found for regular price of $269, and on sale at Albee Baby online for $209-$219. The Marathon a wide open easy to route belt path, which makes using it correctly a lot easier, as do the built in lockoffs, which mean you never again have to use a locking clip. I can get it into 4 different vehicles in under 2 minutes. Because of the way the base is made, it fits in most cars. And, it is worth the money, b/c it lasts usually twice as long as most other car seats (all car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture) lasting a baby till they are 5-6 years old, where most at Walmart will only last till 2-4 years old. Rear faces to 33lbs, then forward to 65lbs. and top slots 17inches tall, lasts most kids to ages 5-6 years old.Britax is having one of their semiannual sales from February 24 - March 2. You could snag a Britax seat for $200 or less including shipping!

The Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the original Triumph, make sure it says Advance) is a great seat. $150 version at Babies R Us has padding similar to Britax seats, top slots of 17", harnesses to 35lbs rear facing, and 50lbs forward facing. $120 Walmart version just has little less plush padding. Wide open belt path, easy to install, though it doesn't have built in lockoffs. The harness adjusts at the front of the car seat, you don't have to take the car seat out of the car just to raise/lower the straps. It's one of only 2 seats that does this (The Britax Boulevard is the other, I believE), and it has infinite harness adjustment so the harness always fits perfectly until its outgrown. No more tugging straps to tighten them either. You tighten and loosen the harness using knobs on the side of the seat. As a major bonus, it can be used in a recline position even in forward facing mode. Awesome for kids who still sleep in the car. I LOVE THIS SEAT! LOL My son, who is too big for every other car seat at Walmart has the same amount of room in this as the Britax Marathon.

The Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe Convertible seat is great, it is made by Britax, without all the frills. It's the same shell as a Marathon, but for less than half the price. $130 at Albee Baby online with free shipping, or at their eBay name, babysurplus. Rear faces to 33lbs, forward to 55lbs. Easy to use, fits in most cars. A small word of warning about these seats: they are now officially not making them anymore, so the date of manufacture is getting older and older, with many being delivered that are 6+ months old already. Since car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture, this could make a difference to you, especially since its possible your child could fit in the seat for the next 5-6 years.

These are the best you can buy that will give you the most bang for your buck. As a single parent I'm always watching the budget - I have no money to speak of, and these are what I would buy. (My son has a marathon and is soon getting a Britax Regent). They will last the longest. I only wish someone would've told me all this before I had him, I coulda saved some money for the extra seats I started out with!

All seats in the US must meet the same safety criteria to sell, so technically they all are safe, however, if its hard to install, then it won't be used correctly and that makes it unsafe. Also, they only must meet the guidelines, some seats barely pass, some exceed them. Britax exceeds the guidelines and is easy to use.

Remember these rules:
1)the BEST seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. (This is why convenience features DO make a difference and ARE worth the money! If its easy to use, you're more likely to use it correctly.
2)Children should stay rear facing AS LNOG AS POSSIBLE!!!! The 20lbs/1 year rule is outdated and provides a bare minimum for turning kids forward facing. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration both recommend keeping kids rear facing as long as possible, up to the limits of their seat, preferably until at least 2 years of age. For good reason: A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 4 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age. A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone. In other countries, rear facing 2 - 3 - 4 year olds is standard, they understand that its safer. Here, we turn them as soon as we get to, seeing it as a right of passage thing or something. Ridiculous. Most convertible seats have a 30lbs rear facing limit, Cosco/Dorel/Safety1st/Eddie Bauer seats rear face to 35lbs, Britax rear faces to 33lbs.
3)Once you do turn them forward facing, they need to stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. 4 years/40lbs is the minimum for riding in a booster, and most 4 year olds have no business using one yet. If they can't sit upright for an entire trip, they need the harness of a car seat still. And, even if they do sit properly, a 5 point harness is safer, so you want to keep them in one as long as possible. This is important to consider b/c most car seats only forward face to 40lbs. My son just turned 3, and is in the 95th% for height and weight - 40" tall and weighs 41lbs. He outgrew the 40lbs seats shortly after his 2nd birthday. It was a total waste of money. He now has a Britax Marathon, which goes to 65lbs, and will be able to fit it for some time yet. If I'd have bought it when he was born, I could have had one car seat this whole time instead of the 3 I wasted money on. They are more expensive for many reasons, this is one.

P.S. As far as the brand goes in general - I attempt to steer clear of it. There were several models of seats a few years back that had a notch cut out in the head area of the plastic shell - one case was reported of a child ending up with brain damage when her head struck it. Dorel was made aware of the problem several times and refused to acknowledge it until years later when those seats were being widely used putting a huge amount of kids in danger. Dorel has a reputation for being exceedingly profit only oriented. Is that who you want designing a seat for your child? Britax has time and again shown that their first goal is the safety of your children. And they back that up with the type of products they make.

From your experience, what is the best car seat for babies 22 lbs and up and why?

Answer
I will gladly share my preference - in a minute - but first I want to say that even the American Academy of Pediatrics says the 'best' car seat is one that fits your car (not all will!), fits your child, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. A seat that almost always fits the bill, in fact I haven't heard of a car it wouldn't work in yet, is the Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathalon. These 3 are the same seat, just different variances of luxury additions, with the Marathon being the cheapest base model, and it can be found for regular price of $269, and on sale at Albee Baby online for $209-$219. It is one awesome seat! That poster above who praised the Eddie Bauer seat? Please don't go with it. She's right, all the Safety1st/Dorel/Cosco/EddieBauer seats (they're all the same company) have sharp pointy edges on the skinny belt paths that will pinch and scratch your hands up every time you have put it in/pull it out. She is wrong - not ALL car seats are this way. The Marathon sure isn't. It has a wide open easy to route belt path, which makes using it correctly a lot easier, as do the built in lockoffs, which mean you never again have to use a locking clip. It rear faces to 33lbs, which is very important since babies should stay rear facing AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!! If you have your baby front facing at 22lbs, turn her back around! Even the AAP and other safety experts say keep them rear facing to the limits of their seat. They are safest that way. And then the Marathon will front fact to 65lbs, 25lbs more usage than other seats, and it has 17"tall top harness slots, which is important since most kids outgrow their car seat by height before they outgrow it by weight. Comparitively, the Safety1st/EddieBauer/Cosco seats have 14.5-15" top harness slots. Most kids won't even make it to 40lbs in them b/c the slots are too short, and you're out shopping for a car seat again, since kids shouldn't be in boosters until they are 5-6 years old, at least.

The Evenflo Triumph DLX is an ok seat, I loved the features of it (like the knobs to adjust tightness, and up front height adjustment and recline) until I realized that the short shell meant my son outgrew it at 33lbs, 18 months old!!! Then I had to find him another seat...his third, including the carrier he had as a newborn. If I'd have bought a Marathon from the beginning, I could've bought ONE seat instead of 3! The NEW Evenflo Triumph Advance has solved this problem, though, and it is a great seat. Great choice, if you can find it. It just came out this month and hasn't made it to all the stores yet.

Also a quick summary of the story would also be helpful. Thanks so much =]

Answer
A young American woman, Laura has come to Mexico City in the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution in order to work for the revolutionary cause, in support of a socialist regime. She is a schoolteacher and also acts as a go-between for the local revolutionary leader, Braggioni, and his adherents. Braggioni has a personal interest in the lovely but cold young woman and he pays her nightly visits, hoping to seduce her. As the story opens, Braggioni is in Lauraâs room, singing to her. It is the end of the day and Laura is tired, but she receives Braggioniâs attention politely, not wishing to offend the powerful man.

There is little action in the story. The events are mostly internal, as Braggioniâs terrible singing and bantering conversation triggers Lauraâs thoughts and emotions. Laura knows that Braggioni would like to seduce her and that she âmust resist tenaciously without appearing to resist.â She finds him grossly sensual and corrupt, but Braggioni is a local hero, embodying all of the hypocrisy that threatens the ideals of the socialist revolution. Laura longs to flee from him and from the disillusioning cynicism of the revolutionaries, but she sees no other option than to continue her commitment.

As they sit together, Braggioni flaunts his elegant clothing, telling Laura that she is more like him than she realizes and warning her that she will be as disappointed in life as he is. Laura wonders about her devotion to the cause, thinking about her duties teaching English to Indian children, attending union meetings, and delivering messages and supplies to political prisoners. Despite her disgust with Braggioniâs blatant hypocrisy, Laura has her own lapses as good socialist. The revolutionaries are politically opposed to the Catholic Church, but Laura sometimes goes to church and prays, though she is no longer faithful. She also has a secret love of luxury, favoring handmade lace, which also runs counter to socialist ideology.

Braggioni continues to sing to Laura and flirt with her. Laura has had several suitors in Mexico in addition to Braggioni. She has skillfully rebuffed the pass of a former soldier in the army of another revolutionary faction. She draws a parallel between this ârude folk-heroâ and the children she teaches, who express a surprising and unrequited affection for her.

The other suitor is a young union activist who serenades her according to the Mexican tradition. Lauraâs maid advised her to toss him a flower from the Judas tree outside her window in order to stop his singing. She does this, not realizing that this is actually a signal of encouragement. The young man continues to follow and watch her. She ignores him, but does not regret her mistake. She maintains an attitude of stoicism and negativity in all of her interactions.

Braggioni goes on to tell her about the confrontation planned for the next day in the nearby town of Morelia, where a Catholic festival for the Blessed Virgin will coincide with a celebration of labor activism by the Socialists. He predicts violence and asks her to clean and oil his weapons, which she does obediently. She returns his guns to him and, with uncharacteristic boldness, tells him to âgo kill someone in Morelia, and you will be happier.â She then reveals that a prisoner, one of Braggioniâs adherents, whom she had visited earlier that night, had committed suicide by taking sleeping pills she had brought to him the day before. Braggioni pretends indifference, but he leaves abruptly and reconciles with his wife.

After Braggioni leaves, Laura undresses and goes to bed, plagued by oppressive feelings of guilt and alienation. When she finally falls asleep she has a disturbing dream. The prisoner who committed suicide is beckoning her from the house. She says she will follow him only if she can hold his hand, but when he refuses her, calling her a murderer, she follows him anyway. He offers her flowers from the Judas tree to eat, and when she consumes them greedily he again calls her a murderer and cannibal. She awakens to the sound of her own voice crying âNo!â and is afraid to fall asleep again.

How is the Recession effecting Brazil?

We are studying Brazil in Geography and all our videos are from the year 2000. It got me wondering what effect the current economic climate was having on Brazil.

Answer
Not much, Ciara.

I hope the videos are not based on the news of CNN or movies from Hollywood...

I don't know where are you from and what you learnt at elementary school, but, I know that many people around the World imagine Brazil as international news and idiot movies from Hollywood pictures my country.

Many people in Brazil have standard of life similar and many others, better than millions in Europe and USA. Brazil is not the richest nation of the World but is too much far to be one of the poor part of the World. But, many persons thinks they knows enough about Brazil to teach a class, then all they explain are stereotypes based in their own thinking as Brazil must be. They don't care about how Brazil is.

Brazilian economy is growing (4-6%/year) and inflation is about 6.1%/year. Brazilian ministry of economy expects some extra number of person will be unployed in 2009 due the international crisis. Since Europe and USA are submerse in crisis, international demand may to dimi but some bailout is given for agricultors, among others. Brazilan Central Bank was authorized to realize currency "SWAP" operations.

Brazil is a great nation with a large territory and a big GDP almost 2 trillion dollars/year. It is at level to belong the G7. Canada and Italia, to be more specific. And this put us in the 9th place, in terms of economy, behind the G7 and Spain. Medium class is strong and have an incomming about 9,000.00/year (medium), but, wages can vary only US$ 500.00/month to more than US$ 25,000.00 dollars/month for a typical person of medium class. Even people in the slums have microwave stove, TV, DVD player, etc.
Is this a poor nation?

The medium class passes the life expending the money in the shopping centers where many prices are highest than in the USA. As I told in another answer, a guy of the middle class from the EUA can buy a Ferrari F430 because it is very cheap there. I see in the movies "my 175,000 dollars Ferrari..." while the cheap price for a Ferrari in Brazil is more than 1 million dollars.

A simple marriage cerimony/party like these below, may costs more than 200,000 dollars, here. It's a luxury for the riches ones in the USA, but a goal to the brazilian high middle class families.

http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=m_GshJy_uV0
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=91U16s9dPc4

Note that many prices are different in Brazil. Some things costs much less, but, some, are more expensive than in the USA, due the taxes for importing (60% over the price in the country of origins).

Brazilian imports are toys (from China), some musical instruments, mahines and parts for machines, locomotives, some motherboards and other hardware for computers, etc.

The best salaries are for managers, business men/women, publicitaries, experts in marketing, programmers and systems analists, TV anchors/reporters and hosts, designers, electronic/telecommunication engineers and tecnicians, DJs, videomakers, professional photographers and all that works in communication or business, special. The worst wages are for office workers, sellers, nurses, teachers, police men/women and others.

Magic sky

I am thinking that when I leave home, if I hadn't turned out successful at all and I have to live in some shoddy apartment on the bad side of town or something bad like that, that all my life I have been setting up a small investment to buy survival gear (like knives, ropes, medkits, firestarters, and such.) if the time comes, I will get all this stuff, find a girl (who is willing to do this with me,) and got rent a boat. I will then go out and find a desolate island in the carribbean and survive there because I will have a better chance there than I would at home. I know that for a fact. period. I have watched survival island movies and documenaries, every episode of man vs wild, survivor man, and woman man wild. I love guns and knives, I can build shelter with just sticks in under an hour (extremely hard to do,) and I can start a fire with a magnifying glass. everyone I know says that I have good brains and they would choose me to live with if a zombie apocalypse or something starts, and I think I am going to become a failure at life. is this a good "plan B?"
everything I said is serious, too. I really want to know.
I have gone survival camping a bit and it turned out fine.

oh. and most species of fish are large, fleshy, and edible (if you can catch them. a reel isn't that much, is it?) a spear works too.

Answer
I feel sad that your perception of how your life may turn out is so bleak. I am sadder to realize that many of your generation feel the same way.

I fear your ambition may be a tad unrealistic. First, I find it highly unlikely that you will find a girl willing to leave her family, her life, modern luxuries, etc. to join you on this excursion. Second, the human species evolved as a social creature. We simply do not do well with limited (or zero) interpersonal contact. Even our very anatomy is predicated on the fact that we have always operated with others by our sides. One semi-serious accident out in the bush (or on your island) could incapacitate you for awhile. When your survival depends on your efforts alone, something as seemingly trivial as a tooth abscess could end up killing you. Even an infected cut on your foot that makes hard to walk could keep you from securing enough food or water to survive.

However, you have expressed a desire for an 'unconventional' lifestyle. here is a link with information on how to become a park ranger:
http://www.nps.gov/personnel/rangers.htm
The link is for the National Park system, but that is by no means the only parks out there (state, county, etc.). Often, parks need folks who will sit in fire towers for months on end ready to radio in forest fires. Here's a link to an open fire lookout position: http://www.dnr.wa.gov/Lists/Job%20Openings/Attachments/773/2012_9131.pdf (just so you can get an idea of the requirements).

Out of the park system, there are logging companies that pay folks to walk the wilderness planting little seedling trees to reforest the landscape. You get to 'survive' in the bush for weeks at a time, but get paid and don't have to give up all modern conveniences completely.

not to squash your dream, but it is highly unlikely you could even find a suitable island just by launching a boat aimlessly. Most habitable islands are occupied, and those that aren't are often frequented by smugglers and the like. Not the best prospect for you and your lady friend.

Check out some other careers. Remember, success is what you make of it. You don't have to have the typical 9-5:00 job in an office with a boss breathing down your neck. You don't have to drive the flashiest car or make the most money to be successful. If your needs are simple, you can be happy anywhere, doing just about anything.

Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do.

People making rude comments about pale skin?

Elysium

I'm naturally very pale and that's just fine by me, but every summer I get bombarded by the same types of comments. Some of the people making the comments are my friends, but some are people I barely even know. Why do people feel like it's ok to walk up to me and say things like: "Wow, I bet you glow in the dark.", "Don't you EVER go out in the sun? Do you live in a dungeon or something?", "You know, it wouldn't kill you to go tanning once in a while...you could use it.", "You're pretty, but you really need a tan!", or just laugh and make some condescending remark like "Oh my gosh, look at your pale legs! That's so funny!" I don't understand why so many people seem to feel that it is acceptable to say things like that. I always want to tell them that if they wouldn't walk up to a heavy person and say "Lose some weight, tubby!" then they shouldn't say "Go get a tan, glowstick!". I'm not self conscious about being pale at all and I don't wish I was tan - I just want to know what to say when people put me down for my skin color. I always have to fight the urge to say something rude, but I also don't want to just keep laughing it off and letting people think it doesn't bother me. Has anyone else ever been in this situation before, and if so, what's the best way to handle it?

Answer
THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS! Friends do not hurt & say mean things to the other! You'll have the last laugh, when you meet up with them again, 30-40 years from your HS graduation! Continue taking good care of your pale skin. In the long run, you'll look younger than they do, by the time you're 50 or 80.

I have Discoid Lupus, and I wear my umbrella. I also sometimes wear my floppy hat. I actually wore floppy hat all 4 years of my HS, and it was fashionable back in the 70's. In Asia where I came from 95% of the people there use umbrella to protect them from the heat, among other reasons. But in other countries where BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL, and tanning is beautiful . . . they're very ignorant about pale is REALLY beautiful. Sometimes, along the way, while wearing my umbrella, I'd hear someone say: "Is it going to rain today?" "or is it raining outside?" etc. What they really don't know is that: there are skin diseases related to tanning. Aging is the reason why people are into buying anti-aging products, and why dermatologist have better skin than those who tan. There are as many tanning lotions sold out there, as there are whitening products from soap, skin creams, and lotions but cancer is also rising. Skin Lighteners and Anti-aging Treatments: May Contain the Toxic Metal, Mercury.

What they also don't know is that tanning causes them to get moles, freckles, skin tags, melanoma or worst skin diseases like Bullous Pemphegoid, vitiligo, ski discolorations permanently from lotions etc.

Watch Mirror, Mirror when the evil queen played by Julia Roberts wanted to look as fair as the princess played by Lily Collins. I came from a vacay in Ireland, and many of the people there working in the profession (luxury hotels and banks, etc.) have beautiful white complexion!

You DON'T NEED TO SAY anything to them. "Sticks & stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." keep repeating those children's rhyme, and you'll do just fine. Christina Aguillera has a song called "Beautiful". Or Bruno Mars, "Just the Way You Are." Listen to them.

Been there, I know what it's like. I did without anyone's help, no teachers, no parents, no friends. Think positive and have confidence, without those two, you can't make it into the world. It's up to you to change, since you can't CHANGE THEM.
Lady Gaga, go listen to some of her music. She's a good example of one that was bullied in middle school.

I'm almost 60 now, and I still get those bullies once in a while. It's a tough world, but only YOU can do it. But I have flawless skin, same as that of some 30 something person!

What should a woman take into account financially when wanting to become a stay at home mother?

If a woman wants to leave work and stay home there are a lot of financial things to take into account. The woman may make a salary, but pay for eating out more, professional clothing, child care.....what else financially would a woman have to take into account when deciding on whether or not to stay home. Have you transitioned to staying home? Where do you find you actually save money because you are home? What were some of the hidden financial costs of working?

Answer
I recently went from working full-time outside of the home to staying home with our almost 3 y.o son. Like everything else in life, it has its good and bad points.

You will probably save money by eating at home and shopping smarter. Pre-SAHM, I'd never have bothered clipping coupons - who had the time? These behaviors extend to larger purchases as well (I shopped around for a great price on our new garage door opener, for example), so it can add up.

If you wore business or business casual clothes to work, then there may be some slight savings. My experience was that I actually had to buy jeans, tees and sneakers - I only owned a few things for the weekends, not enough for the daily grind.

Commuting costs may decrease, too. My husband now hops the train, and my son and I walk nearly everywhere. This had made a big savings, and if it means we don't replace our car for an extra year or two, then that's some major bucks.

I also think that thinking about your budget simply leads to spending less money. And now that there's time to make better decisions, most of us do. I don't feel deprived if I can't have that sweater, for example, because the 15 sweaters I already have are neatly laundered and stored in the right place. Less chaos, more calm - it can't be bought! :)

There are a few areas, though, that might surprise you.

* We still pay for childcare. Now that our son is nearly 3, he needs time with other kids - more than he was getting in a once-weekly playgroup or story time at the library. Part-time nursery school can be expensive, but it's worth it.

* Now that you have time to take your kid to lessons, you might want to enroll in Gymboree or swimming ... even with a smaller kid. Some things are free or cheap, but that's not always the case. (My hockey-obsessed 3 y.o. wants ice skating lessons. Cha-ching.)

* Some women have also mentioned to me that they finally have the time to take on those projects around the house - planting a garden, painting the study - but realize that they're breaking the budget taking them on. Likewise, if you're a recreational shopper, watch out! It's an easy trap, especially when you have the time and the mall has that great kids' playspace in the center.

* When your primary role is caregiver, you'll need to budget in some bucks for luxuries - a latte, a movie, a pedicure. Taking care of yourself is important, especially when you've just taken on a 24/7 kind of job.

* Lastly, and this is the big one, you'll need to figure out how to save for retirement now that you don't have an income. In addition to looking at your monthly budget to see where you can make cuts, examine your long-term financial position. If you're not saving for retirement at all, now's the time to start. And if you're saving through automatic payroll deduction, you'll need to figure out how to replace those dollars.

What hotels in pattaya do not question if you bring women?

mychael101

I have heard some hotels in Pattaya beach make you pay extra if you bring women or guest. I am looking to enjoy myself after a year in Iraq, so I am looking for good reasonable hotels where I can bring two women, the same time, day or night without problems.

Answer
Most of the hotels in Pattaya that are not expensive usually will allow you to bring in a guest without a charge. Many hotels that are under 1000 baht will still have air conditioning and private bathrooms.

If you intend to stay in more luxury accommodation they usually ask you to pay. They figure you can afford it and besides they don't want to alarm any of the other guests by your continually bringing "guests" back to the hotel.

Check one place out for a couple nights and if it works out for you stay longer. If not move on, lots and lots of places in Pattaya to stay at. Choose a hotel between Central Pattaya and Royal Garden Mall.

By the way, if the front desk asks for identification of your friend it is for YOUR protection! "Guests" have been known to run off with money, watches, passports, etc. of the guy or gal who brought the guest in. Checking ID's is okay!

Happy hunting.

How do I look more tan?

I have been teased about my pale skin, so I want to look more "sun-kissed". However, when I go out in the sun, I get sunburned, even with sunscreen lotion, due to a skin condition. I have tried seeing a dermatologist, but nothing seems to work. Is there a way that I can become tan?

Answer
Don't worry what others or what I think, you NEED to take care of your skin, when you're burning that is not a good sign!

Sunscreen will not protect you from getting burned.

Sunscreen will only make your moles or freckles larger, bumpier & darker, if you have them already. Not just moles, but freckles, skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, Discoid Lupus, Bullous Pemphegoid, Lentigo (Google search them) and lentigines -- nearly always non-cancerous skin lesions

Sunscreen will not protect you from skin cancer.

Sunscreen will not protect you if you have allergies, I never thought I had allergies!

Sunscreens also discolor your skin - for ever!

Sunscreen blocks Vitamin D as well.

But I had Discoid Lupus caused from the sun. Google it. Took 12 years for mine to almost 'fade'. I don't want any more lupus appearing on my skin, so now I'm more & more into protecting myself.

I'm the kind of person who has families with moles as large as raisin-size. I don't want moles on my body, so I always have been concern about that. But, how I got lupus? I don't know! I got it period.

The sun is more powerful than most people think.

Who cares if you have white skin, at least you will look beautiful when you get in your 50's, and girls with whiter skin will look YOUNGER looking in their 50's if you know how to preserve your skin. There's a reason why Robert Pattinson is so popular with the girls. His face has a kind of gorgeousness one sees in the faces of children, with its perfect pale skin, red lips, large eyes. It's hard to say it any other way: he's beautiful.

Tanning, is a result for 'damaged skin' and no products can reverse you from skin cancer or damaged skin, may prevent you from pre-mature aging, but that's part of the billion dollar beauty industry.
A new study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology has found that tanning bed exposure can be dangerous when tanners self-diagnose skin problems and use the radiation to treat skin eruptions. The study specifically found that a tanning bed user that used the radiation to treat a mild skin rash caused by an ibuprofen allergy developed a much more severe reaction called toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). When left untreated, TEN can be fatal.

I am naturally a lightskinned young lady, I would like to try to tan outdoors, is there anything at home I could use to speed up the process? I live in WA and tomorrow it will be 80 degrees. I was planning on starting tomorrow. I don't have money to spend right now so I was wondering what kind of home remedies there are to speed up tanning or help the tanning process? :)

Answer
Find a car that has a sun reflecting on YOU.

I've been protecting myself from the sun since age 9, but no matter, I got Discoid Lupus. Google that one. It was like someone punched my chin and it gave a purplish mark. It took 12 years for that to fade, so now I'm using a wide brim hat or umbrella for protection. Gene Simmons & Shannon both have been seen hold an umbrella during an event. They were invented before beauty products, for a reason. Google also Bullous Pemphegoid, photos, another skin disorder.

Any GMC Acadia owners out there?

Waiting on

I think my hubby and I have settled on this car, but there is not a lot of consumer reviews out there. Just wondering if there was anything you loved or hated about the vehicle. Possibly going next week to get it.

Answer
Well, your question has been on my private watch list for about as long as you posted it. Since knowone has taken the time to answer your question, I will give it my best shot, as long as you know I have an unqualified opinion because I do not own a GMC Acadia. First, I would like to congratulate you on your third child. I am sure it is a wonderful feeling beyond what words can describe. What an accomplishment. Your husband is the man!! lol.

I am an avid reader of the automobile industry and I have followed the product cycles of cars and trucks for the better part of 20 years. I would suggest that you google the technical service bulletin for the GMC Acadia on the internet and this will give you facts from the manufacturer as to what is wrong. If anything.

I sat in the Acadia about a year ago at a car show and my jaw dropped. It is an amazing piece of automotive engineering that any motor company could be proud of. It is a keeper. The greatest concerns I have heard from consumer reviews have been comments around the automatic transmission. Many describe it as hunting for a gear and slow to down shift when passing a vehicle. The reason why this is the case is because the vehicle is heavy with a big motor, the higher the gearing the better the fuel economy. So for some, it may feel under powered, but who is racing with 3 kids in tow? It will get you there in good time.

The Acadia has the comfort and capacity to be luxurious even though the brand, GMC is not a luxury brand. As a result, you are getting a top notch best in class vehicle, that others will copy. As with all SUV's pay attention to the blind spots and a back up camera is not a must but would be nice when kids are running around and you are backing out of the drive, or trying to park downtown against a curb. Now when I was in the service we just had somebody get out of the vehicle and guide the truck, which will save money and is not a bad idea...sorry Dad. lol.

I sincerely hope this helps you.

Peace.

Cunard vs. Other Cruise Lines such as Princess, HAL?

forcrazyan

A few questions please..

1. What are the things/services offered on Cunard that don't offer on other cruise lines?
2. What is that Cunard Grills Experience all about? Is that another type of dinning style? Does that cost extra?
3. Would you recommend for someone who's not comfortable dressing up all the time to cruise with Cunard?

P. S. Have cruising experience with HAL, Princess, Carnival. Thinking about trying out a new cruise line.
Thank you.

Answer
Perhaps our experiences may help you in a different direction.

Our very first cruise was Princess, Vancouver to Seward in Alaska. Loved it.

Cunard is not like Princess and certainly nothing like Carnival (not been on Carnival - never will!). It is run as a separate "brand" under Carnival but there the similarity stops. Having done a Transatlantic trip Cunard is perfection in high class living!

We had several other quality big ship cruises worldwide before realising we were missing the "real world" passing by. Big ships only visit tourist trap destinations and sometimes we were appalled to find 2/3 other big ships also in for the day and the town swamped by passengers.

We now only go on small (+/-100 passengers) ships visiting remote/unusual/incredible places. Seldom do we see a major city (except departure + arrival) but we have:-
Sat with 1/2 million King penguins in South Georgia (Antarctica)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1393379/King-Penguin-colony-South-Georgia-Stunning-pictures-worlds-largest-cr-che.html
Drifted in the ships Zodiacs for 2 hours watching 20 humpback whales "bubble feeding" in a remote area of Alaska.
Sat with a family of Walrus (very grumpy and fishy smelly!) and 50 ft above Polar Bear that had just caught and was eating a seal in Svalaard (500 miles north of the top of Norway).
http://www.etravelphotos.com/photo.php?pid=2068
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oi8K9z3JfB8
Drifted through the icebergs in Disko Bay Greenland.
Been on a dormant active volcano (White Island) in New Zealand.
http://www.whiteisland.co.nz/
Stood one side of a river watching the bears catching salmon the other side (remote Alaska)
Stood in our "wellies" in a remote Alaskan gravel stream (with our Zodiac beached near us) and watched the salmon running through our feet.
Swum with wild baby seals and been overwhelmed by the wildlife variety (Galapagos)
Visited the scientific bases on the Antarctic peninsular.
http://ukaht.org/peninsula/port-lockroy
Next year going on the National Geographic research ship whale watching off Baja California, and later in the year 24 person luxury boat exploring the Peruvian Amazon!
Etc. etc.

On these ships you have a selection of top quality guides. Typically:- geology, history, marine life etc. who give very informative lectures on the "nature all around you". It is amazing what you learn!

You spend a lot of time out in their Zodiacs visiting Nature in the raw! Your fellow travellers are well educated and knowledgeable - you travel in great comfort/service but the ships priorities are to give you experiences of a lifetime! The costs are similar to the best suites on the big ships - but the experiences are a million times better!

This may open your mind to a world you don't know exists - or the thought of it may appal you!

How to apply self tanner without streaks?

I just can't do it lol.

The stuff I have is rated one of the best tanning lotions out there so I don't think it's the quality, but I always seem to get lines on me. I've spent so long putting it on before, just rubbing and rubbing at the edges to blend it or try to, and by the time it darkens it looks awful.

The worst areas are my hands and feet. I always have these awful streaks between my fingers and on the side of my hand.

Any tips to streak-free lotion?

I refuse to go to a tanning place. I'd rather be a ghost than have look like a leather couch and have skin cancer by the time I'm 40.

Help please??

Answer
Use gloves.
SELF-TANNERS: "I've had many patients who think these products somehow offer UV protection or that they give them a 'base tan' so they won't burn," says Dr. Hale, a NYC M.D., dermatologist and vice chair of the Skin Cancer Foundation. "'If I have skin cancer, you'll just remove it, and I'll be OK'. But the color that self-tanners create on your skin is completely artificial. But a lot of young women use these products so they don't look pale when they go to the beach to tan." 86% of women surveyed who use self-tanners reported they'd also baked in the sun, and 36% admitted they'd also used tanning beds (a leading cause of melanoma!) at least once in the past year. Australian study confirms that sunless tanning likely did not reduce the amount of UV exposure women get.

Tanning, is a result for 'damaged skin' and no products can reverse you from skin cancer or damaged skin, may prevent you from pre-mature aging, but that's part of the billion dollar beauty industry.

Melanoma is the leading cause of death from skin disease. An estimated 76,259 new cases of skin cancer will be reported particularly among women in their 20's & 30's, and that's 6,020 more than 2011, people died from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute. Two million people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the US each year, according to the EPA's Sun-Wise Program. That's more than breast, colon, lung and prostate cancer cases combine!

Lotions does not protect you from nasty, painful burns. Lotions does not protect you from skin cancer. Lotions does not protect you from skin diseases. Lotions does not protect you from discolorations - permanently. And lotions does not protect you from skin tags, freckles, moles, they will only get larger, darker, and bumpier as they are exposed from UV.

Q. Hubby and I had our first baby 3 months ago. I cannot work because she needs physical therapy. I was going to try to watch some kids at home, but don't feel I could give them the attention they need while tending to my own child at this time. Anyone have any tips or advice to help out financially? Our money is running out quickly....what did you do to cut corners? Thanks so much!

Answer
First thing that came to mind was...

Do you qualify for WIC (Women, Infants & Children)? They are wonderful if you qualify... They will pay for most of the formula you need in the month (if you aren't breastfeeding), plus stuff like cheese, milk, cereals, etc... That is a wonderful resource to help out with groceries.

As for cutting other corners....

You can make your own baby wipes at home... Google the words in quotation: "make your own baby wipes" - you'll get lots of results!

Clip coupons, definitely! And look for "on sale" items at grocery stores. Especially keep an eye out for "buy one/get one" deals. Be willing to try generic (store) brands! They are often the same product in different packaging!

Shop yard sales, Ebay or visit www.freecycle.org for baby clothes and gear.

Try to cut luxury trips to the movies (which can cost a small fortune these days, even for just two!) and restaurants. Focus on "free fun" like trips to the library, walks through the park, etc. My daughter likes going to the zoo but is just as happy visiting the pet store... get creative!

If you spend a lot of money renting movies - try Netflix (www.netflix.com)! For under $20 a month you can get up to 3 movies at a time at home and you have unlimited rentals within that time... rent, watch, return at your leisure and frequency!

I wish I had more ideas!! And I wish you the best of luck! I know it can be hard... but try to stay positive!

teen start a collection of watches?

lawliet411

Im a little new in the world of watches and im was wondering how can a teen start his own watch collection.my father say to star small and then passing the year have great watches like rolex and omegas and other kinds.
its this a way to start

Answer
I own over 50 watches now that were made 1893 to recently. You need to study watches, so you know the brands and thus can recognize good deals when you encounter them. I look at "International Watch", "Chronos", "Watch Time", etc. magazines at newsstands and often buy them. I also have some watch almanacs, e.g. "Wristwatch Annual", 1999 to 2011. There are some books you should add to your collection, if you're serious about collecting watches. Look at libraries and bookstores to see what is available in your location. I buy some Japanese, French and German watch mags, for I speak several languages. Look at pawn shops, flea markets, garage sales, estate sales, auctions, etc. as I do all over the country. I've written five basic books about watches with several updated editions of each book. Now, I'm working on the fifth edition of "THE COSTLIEST WATCH BRANDS" for 2012. I finished earlier editions in 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2007. In the third edition, the costliest brands were 1. Breguet, 2. Patek Philippe, 3. Vacheron Constantin. Rolex has placed 18th, 24th, 41at and now 48th for 2012. Omega is a bit cheaper than Rolex. Both brands are what I call lower level luxury brands. Today I'm wearing a Vacheron Constantin "Les Historiques, Ellipse" that cost $10,290 in 1994. In 2011, it would cost $29,300 if it was still made. A couple of years ago, a comparable Rolex "Cellini" cost $8200. Thus, my VC is about 3.5 times costlier than a Rolex of the same type. Yesterday, I wore a Cartier "Santos Dumont" that costs $14,450 in 2011 or about 1.8 times more than a similar Rolex. Rolex is over-rated. It spends $47 million a year on advertising in the USA, so everyone had heard of it. There are much better brands. My book tells about that.
At a little hole in the wall store in the wino area of San Francisco (on Market between 6th and 7th Sts.), I saw a Jaeger-LeCoultre 1950s "Memovox". I had just looked at some on Sutter St. that cost $2500-$3000. It was in better shape. I asked the price and almost drooled when the man told me $200. I tried to make it seem he was besting me. I bought it and took it to Shapur the JLC dealer in SF to order a leather strap with buckle that cost $250 in 1996- more than the watch. Now, a new watch like it costs $9600, and I have $450 in it. You should study as I have, so that you can recognize such great deals as this one. I can tell about others too.

I live in a place were well there is almost nothing to do. I want to lose weight and stay healthy while having fun. Belly dancing has always looked amazing to me but i didnt know were to even begin to look for an instructor nor do i know of any local place that has this type of dance help!!! Suggestions

Answer
Check out if anything is available in leisure centres, health clubs, community centres etc, There are often classes happening that don't get much publicity. In the UK you can sometimes get evening classes via the council, perhaps you have the same.

Directory of teachers
http://www.bellydanceclasses.net/

If all else fails, get a DVD and have a go.
Amiras 101 is highly recommended for beginners.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWhfpzAItx4

You can also read up on terms, moves, costumes etc on here
http://www.shira.net/

It helps if you buy a coin belt as the sound gives you feed back on what your hips are doing.
Something like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Luxury-Velvet-Belly-Dance-Hip-Scarf-Coin-Belt-Wrap-UK-/380332439070?pt=UK_Ladies_Dancewear_LE&var=&hash=item9757fcb941
Not too cheap as the coins fall off or don't make the right noise.

You can also get online classes from top dancers but they are for more advanced dancers.
There are lots of festivals and events where may be able to take a class or a beginners workshop.
Google bellydance and your area.

Any sort of dance activity and exercise class will help you to bellydance as well. Pilates or yoga would be good, and perhaps some ballet basics, but street, hip hop, flamenco, latin would all help.

Going to CANCUN for Christmas?

hello

I have a flight to Cancun in six hours and I'll be there for a week and a half.

For those who have been, any recommendations on what to do/where to go? Scuba diving spots? Restaurants/bars? Shopping?

Thanks!
I have been a certified diver for about a decade now!

Answer
There is a saying that goes... "If you haven't been to Coco Bongos, you haven't been to Cancún." Very true... Definitely check out Coco Bongos and Senor Frogs. Other bars you may enjoy or want to check out are The City, Dady O, Dady Rock, Dos Equis Bar, Congo, and Bulldogs.
If you like being pampered and want to relax in a cabana and eat sushi and sip your favorite cocktail you should make a stop by Playa Cabana. It's a sexy, sophisticated beach club and I think you'll find it relaxing and nice. If you really want to go out and party and drink book the Party Hopper Tour. You go to three bars in one night. You get VIP access in all three places, transportation, and can drink whatever you want and however much you want. It runs for $65, which is a great deal because Coco Bongo's on the weekend is $60 just to get in (not including drinks).
As far as shopping... La Isla Mall is one of the best to shop in Cancún. If you prefer high end fashion designers like Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vetton, the check out Plaza Kukulcan or Luxury Avenue. If you want like little knick knacks and souvenirs a good place to go is La Fiesta Americanas. Other malls you may want to check out are Plaza Flamingo and Plaza Caracol. There is shopping everywhere and you will see all the places once you arrive and are going to your hotel. Another fun thing to do is to walk around the flea-markets and it's full of locals selling handcrafted items and other trinkets.
Restaurants are galore in Cancún... Lorezillo's is amazing and very romantic. You can have a great dinner while watching the sunset. It's a lobster house that has their own lobster farm and the best seafood you can get anywhere. Carlos n' Charlies is a fun place to go. Check out Bubba Gumps (based on the movie Forrest Gump), Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Pat O'briens. Those are just a few to get you started. If you want to escape the tourist things head down to El Centro and go to a place called Pericos. It's authentic Mexican food and great entertainment atmosphere. Definitely a must go to!
As far as diving there are all kinds of places to choose from and some you have to be certified. I'm not sure if you are so I can't really recommend what ones would be best for you. If you are a beginner or want to learn I would recommend just going to Aqua World. They have all kinds of different water activities for you to enjoy and they are a safe, reliable place.
If you want to swim with dolphins check out Xel-ha or X-caret. Both are ecological themed nature parks and are a lot of fun to visit.
If you like history and culture it's fun to go visit the ancient Mayan ruins. Two of the best places to do so are Chichen-Itza and Tulum.
One other thing you may enjoy is Captain Hook's Pirate Dinner Cruise. You board one of two pirate ships and sail out into the Caribbean and have dinner. On the way back the two ships converge and put on a pirate fight. It's a lot of fun and a neat thing to do.
Also, you can take a trip over to the island of Isla Mujeres and once there you can rent a golf cart and tour the island. Be sure to check out the shell house on the southern end of the island. It's a house made from all sea shells.
On your way to your hotel you will see all kinds of places that you will want to check out so you'll know once you get there. That should you get you started. There is a lot more, but once you get there and see Cancún you will know what you want to go and experience. If you need help with booking any tours or anything the front desk at your hotel can help you and if you booked with a travel company they have representatives on site at the hotels to further assist you in booking things.
Just a little tip try to stay away from the taxi cabs. They pretty much charge you what you want as they have no set fares. Use the public transportation buses. They are on a five minute schedule and there are bus stops everywhere so you never wait over five minutes for a bus and they are super cheap.
Enjoy your vacation... Cancún is a blast and you will have a great time!!! ¡Feliz Navidad!

Which is the better watchmaker? Invicta, Swiss Legend, Akribos or August Steiner?

Are these brands worth the money or just overrated japan movement?

Answer
All four are cheap watches with cheap movements inside. They all stick a ridiculous price tag on to give the illusion of quality, then sell them at 75% off to make you feel like you are getting a luxury item at a bargain price. You never see them sold at full price. AS movements are made in China. Invicta is a Florida company these days. Akribos are just another brand under the Stuhrling Original collection; they and SL may have a swiss movements, but its still a mass-manufactured cheap watch pretendning to be more.

Does "JAPAN MOVT" in a watch indicates some type of counterfeiting?

Monica

Answer
The Swiss are the proverbial masters of watchmaking.(And Nazi money/gold laundering.)

Swiss Movements usually have the longest histories/heritages.

Japanese movements, at least to me, Do represent very good bang for the buck. They are usually well built/reliable (like Seiko for example), however not at all on the same level as their Chronometer certified Swiss brethren. its also branding Swiss Movements allow a premium price.

But to earn a coveted COSC certified certification, a movement must not only be made from the highest quality components, but also be the object of special care on part of the finest watchmakers and timers during assembly, and only 3%ish of all Swiss Movements are so certified, and exactly 0% of Japan Movement watches.

Think of it as,
Japanese Movement= Affordable and usually more robust *ie: Seiko*
Swiss Movement= higher end and some luxury watches
COSC certified= luxury+ chronometers

Love my boyfriend very much. He is handsome and sexy, I want to send him a gift. Maybe a watch is his favor.

Answer
A few more additional details would help -- how old are you (and your boyfriend), what's your budget, what's his style etc?

Assuming you are a young person who cares mostly about the style, take a look at Fossil or Kenneth Cole watches -- they tend to make stylish watches for young folks that quite good looking, both digital and analog. And they also tend to be rather affordable (anywhere from $25 - $250).

In digital watches, you've Casios and Timex that make some rather interesting ones. Check out Casio's Path Finder or G-Shock line, or Timex's Iron Man line (if you're into digital that is).

If your boyfriend is into analog watches, take a look at Seiko. They make a great quality watches at a decent price. A lot of their watches are Rolex-look alikes at much cheaper prices (not cheap knockoffs, but similar styles).

Timex also has some good analog watches. Another good brand would be Victorinox, makers of the Swiss Army Knife. They have some interesting watches, as well.

If you've a higher price point, you can look at low-end Swiss watches such as Tag Heur, Raymond Weil, Tissot, or Longines. For instance, I'm in my mid twenties, and my wife recently gifted me with a gorgeous Raymond Weil Automatic for Christmas [1], since I often have to wear a suit and tie for work, and it's a very clean and dressy watch. Watches in similar styles are usually priced at around 1-2k. Those are lower end luxury watches.

If you've more to spend, you get into brands like Breitling, IWC, JLC, Patek etc. which go from 5k and upwards.

In conclusion, assuming that you're a younger couple and your boyfriend prefers "stylish" watches, I'd look at the following -- Fossil, Kenneth Cole, Victorinox, Tissot, Tag Heur, and Rolex (in increasing order of price). Good luck!

Which brands and types of male watches are appropriate for business?

Rummy Sam

I'd like to buy my boyfriend a nice watch for Christmas. While I'm primarily looking for something he could use at the office (he works in a major personal wealth financial firm), it would be nice if the watch was a bit versatile as to be appropriate in casual situations as well. But this watch will be primarily used for work, where it's paramount that the watch be fashionable and appropriate. I'm looking to spend no more than $350.

I need to know:
1. Which types of watches are appropriate for businessmen, and would work well in casual settings too? (leather bands? metal bands? thick or thin? Chronograph? etc.)
2. Which brands are considered business appropriate? (Armani? CK? Hugo Boss? Lacoste? D&G?)

I'm a bit partial to some of these below, are any of these appropriate?

I need as detailed a response as possible as I know almost nothing about watches or finance culture. Thanks a bunch!

Answer
If your boyfriend is an I-Banker or works with clients at any time during his work day, I would recommend sticking to actual watchmakers. To explain, while these watches look nice and look good, they are what are called "fashion watches." These watches are only designed and then licensed by Armani, Burberry etc... (And fun fact.. FOSSIL actually makes most of the watches you listed... basically those Burberry, Armani, Michael Kors watches are fancy looking Fossil watches (see wiki link below).

Examples of luxury watchmakers are your Rolexes, Omegas, Tag Heuers, IWC, etc... and the list goes on... a Patek Philippe chronograph will set you back $150,000 to put it in perspective. But seriously, few of us have the means to even drop a $1000 for a watch. While I imagine some of your boyfriend's clients may be sporting car-priced timepieces on their wrists, there are definitely quality watches in the $350 range.

For the price range you gave, I would look into Citizen, Seiko and Tissot. These are excellent watchmakers and their watches are extremely reliable and well made. The Citizen Eco-Drive for instance is one of the best quartz watches on the market. When investing in a quality watch or product in general, a good thing to look for is a company that specializes in doing what they do. I would leave Hugo Boss to men's suiting rather than fine watches.

Stick with a stainless steel face and a brown strap. This is timeless and can be dressed up or down. Black leather strap watches (while black 'goes' with everythings) can look too dressy. Stick with a watch face between 38mm - 42mm. (see the Tissot link below)

Hope this helps!

I never thought to ask, but that's a great point! I've never bought one, I can vouch for that at least! :)
