Check out if anything is available in leisure centres, health clubs, community centres etc, There are often classes happening that don't get much publicity. In the UK you can sometimes get evening classes via the council, perhaps you have the same.

If all else fails, get a DVD and have a go.
Amiras 101 is highly recommended for beginners.

You can also read up on terms, moves, costumes etc on here

It helps if you buy a coin belt as the sound gives you feed back on what your hips are doing.
Something like this

Not too cheap as the coins fall off or don't make the right noise.
You can also get online classes from top dancers but they are for more advanced dancers.
There are lots of festivals and events where may be able to take a class or a beginners workshop.
Google bellydance and your area.
Any sort of dance activity and exercise class will help you to bellydance as well. Pilates or yoga would be good, and perhaps some ballet basics, but street, hip hop, flamenco, latin would all help.

Going to CANCUN for Christmas?
hello
I have a flight to Cancun in six hours and I'll be there for a week and a half.
For those who have been, any recommendations on what to do/where to go? Scuba diving spots? Restaurants/bars? Shopping?
Thanks!
I have been a certified diver for about a decade now!

There is a saying that goes... "If you haven't been to Coco Bongos, you haven't been to Cancún." Very true... Definitely check out Coco Bongos and Senor Frogs. Other bars you may enjoy or want to check out are The City, Dady O, Dady Rock, Dos Equis Bar, Congo, and Bulldogs.
If you like being pampered and want to relax in a cabana and eat sushi and sip your favorite cocktail you should make a stop by Playa Cabana. It's a sexy, sophisticated beach club and I think you'll find it relaxing and nice. If you really want to go out and party and drink book the Party Hopper Tour. You go to three bars in one night. You get VIP access in all three places, transportation, and can drink whatever you want and however much you want. It runs for $65, which is a great deal because Coco Bongo's on the weekend is $60 just to get in (not including drinks).
As far as shopping... La Isla Mall is one of the best to shop in Cancún. If you prefer high end fashion designers like Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vetton, the check out Plaza Kukulcan or Luxury Avenue. If you want like little knick knacks and souvenirs a good place to go is La Fiesta Americanas. Other malls you may want to check out are Plaza Flamingo and Plaza Caracol. There is shopping everywhere and you will see all the places once you arrive and are going to your hotel. Another fun thing to do is to walk around the flea-markets and it's full of locals selling handcrafted items and other trinkets.
Restaurants are galore in Cancún... Lorezillo's is amazing and very romantic. You can have a great dinner while watching the sunset. It's a lobster house that has their own lobster farm and the best seafood you can get anywhere. Carlos n' Charlies is a fun place to go. Check out Bubba Gumps (based on the movie Forrest Gump), Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Pat O'briens. Those are just a few to get you started. If you want to escape the tourist things head down to El Centro and go to a place called Pericos. It's authentic Mexican food and great entertainment atmosphere. Definitely a must go to!
As far as diving there are all kinds of places to choose from and some you have to be certified. I'm not sure if you are so I can't really recommend what ones would be best for you. If you are a beginner or want to learn I would recommend just going to Aqua World. They have all kinds of different water activities for you to enjoy and they are a safe, reliable place.
If you want to swim with dolphins check out Xel-ha or X-caret. Both are ecological themed nature parks and are a lot of fun to visit.
If you like history and culture it's fun to go visit the ancient Mayan ruins. Two of the best places to do so are Chichen-Itza and Tulum.
One other thing you may enjoy is Captain Hook's Pirate Dinner Cruise. You board one of two pirate ships and sail out into the Caribbean and have dinner. On the way back the two ships converge and put on a pirate fight. It's a lot of fun and a neat thing to do.
Also, you can take a trip over to the island of Isla Mujeres and once there you can rent a golf cart and tour the island. Be sure to check out the shell house on the southern end of the island. It's a house made from all sea shells.
On your way to your hotel you will see all kinds of places that you will want to check out so you'll know once you get there. That should you get you started. There is a lot more, but once you get there and see Cancún you will know what you want to go and experience. If you need help with booking any tours or anything the front desk at your hotel can help you and if you booked with a travel company they have representatives on site at the hotels to further assist you in booking things.
Just a little tip try to stay away from the taxi cabs. They pretty much charge you what you want as they have no set fares. Use the public transportation buses. They are on a five minute schedule and there are bus stops everywhere so you never wait over five minutes for a bus and they are super cheap.
Enjoy your vacation... Cancún is a blast and you will have a great time!!! ¡Feliz Navidad!
