I just got off a cruise and everone was wearing these sunglasses. So I went out and bought a pair.

Oakley holds the most patents of any Eye Protection company in the world. (over 300).
Depending on the frames, the glasses are still made in the US (unless they're acetate or "wire"). Again, depending on the frame, it is ANSI Z87.1 rated for impact resistance. most frames, like those form the sport line are made from a nylon based material called "o-matter", not traditional plastic "Acetate" (although there are some Acetate frames).
Your lenses are made in the US and are ANSI Z87.1 rated for both impact resistance AND clarity. That means they're as close to distortion free as possible and you can wear them for long periods of time without getting a headache.
Since it has these ANSI ratings, you can technically wear these as safety glasses.
