Why do we, as normal folk, care so much about celebrity gossip?

We are in two separate worlds. We are normal folk, who aren't rich and famous. We don't own houses, luxury cars, swiss bank accounts, and a star on the hollywood "walk of fame". Why do we watch "Extra", "The Insider", "Entertainment Tonight", "Access Hollywood", and all these other shows that deal with the so-called problems with the rich and famous? Who cares if Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner split up? The dollars in their bank accounts will always draw someone new. Who cares if Charlie Sheen and his wife were fighting, and she was threatening him with divorce? He would hook up with a new woman in no time. Wanna see real drama in life? Look at us normal folk, who don't have rich pedigrees and have to work 9 to 5 to make ends meet. They should put out a tv show about us. Would you watch?

I dont think its that we actually 'care'. Its probably that those famous folks you are referring to have lives we dont, as you so eloquently mention, so when they fall, it makes it that much more interesting to us. Do I feel Tiger Woods' problems are worse than my own? HeII no, but when celebs have so much, and because they are famous, is why we are interested when we see they are having problems.
